What if I took a ten minute break from playing every hour to clean my house more? I would probably end up doing more than ten mins. I think it's in how you present things to yourself The ten mins wouldn't hurt I'm going to try this and see what happens Anybody else wanna? Do the reverse of what we normally do. Don't take a break from cleaning, take a break from playing! But don't let it upset the good habits you already have of course! Tack it on to what you have to make more success don't use as an excuse to play

Ok I am taking my first break from playing . I'm going to work in my bathroom. Because it's a break I can stop whenever I want. Let's see what happens with this reverse psychology!

I am quite surprised! My break from playing lasted about ten mins and i focused on my bathroom. The rewards now are a clean sink cleaner toilet, items on shelf, laundry picked up (3 items) trash removed (5 items) cleaning supplies located and a new outlook on cleaning! Since I was just taking a play break and could stop whenever it didn't feel icky or forced . Also I cleaned the mirror! I will take another play break when I feel like it and report back. Maybe I'm so backwards I need the most reverse psychology of all?

I have to remember to keep my mindset at I can take a play break if I feel like it and not shift into oh I have to clean ten mins in the next hour . It's a very tricky psychological curve to travel. But I like it

In order to really do it right I have to give myself complete amnesty if the experiment fails

And I'm not trolling! I'm trying out a new game. Einstein talks about having to find a billion ways to fail before you find the answer

I'm finding myself having a really hard time focusing on playing (watching judge judy) cause I really want to clean the cupboard in the hall! Part of the game is it has to be cleaning whatever you feel like no have to or musts . If you are of the sort that isn't gonna do a darn thing anyway like me, then this game will at least get you doing something! I think it's for the really demand resistant locked in people not the people that already have systems running and habits forming. But if you are stuck in a rut try this, I think it's working cause suddenly I really want to clean! I'm chomping at the gate but I'm not gonna let myself! Dr Laura did this trick with somebody on her show too. She told her she was only allowed to clean one room a day, nothing more and that made her want to do more and me to when I tried it! The brain can be a contrary thing

I did another break from playing! This time i cleaned out my cabinet and my front entry table. I found a gas bill that is set to disconnect tomorrow so that's important! I think I may have made a payment and this is mail to disregard but I'm not sure. I have a bills folder at work where I'm keeping all of that info. Just started doing that cause work is where I'm most organized with desk computer and phone. I filled up a trash bag with junk mail and stuff, a grocery store bag. I stored some cleaning supplies in the bathroom, picked up some shop and drop. I may chose to do some more in a bit . Ooh I prefer this mindset over the slave driver demand resistance mindset! Some would say it's so simple you just do it and it doesn't matter what you think. Not with a mind like mine ! Mind over matter. I need to adjust my mind so I can handle the matter. This is working surprisingly well. It's very random but the items that I just cleaned are now CLEAN compared to being stagnant.

I have heard people say that you should get up during commercials to do a little chore- then go back to the show when the commercial is over.
So it sounds like you have created a little "commercial" break for yourself - but really making it a "clenaing" break.
Good Idea blackswan!

The only way I can keep the house clean is to not turn on the TV or the computer until AFTER I have accomplished what I have set as the minimum for the day. After that, I log into SOOS and then I challenge or whatever. Before turning on my computer this morning, I made my bed, gave the kitchen a VERY BRIEF once over, gave the living room a mini tidy, and sprayed the tub with scrubbing bubbles. That took about 20 minutes but I factored in making a breakfast sandwich. And These mind games are ongoing for many of us. dayeanu, has made working 8 minutes at a time, an art form. Most of the people in chat goof off and then work for 15 minutes at the Top of the Hour ToTH or the BoTH -- Bottom of the Hour It's a very effective method of cleaning.

Did another play break, further cleaned the sink, the back of the toilet, the rim of the tub and the bathroom wall all around the door and light switch.

Blackswan, I think you're on the right track. A very important feature of my "8 minutes" is that I only ask myself to do one a day. Any additional ones are totally optional - it just happened that motivation follows action, and I rarely am ready to stop at 8 minutes. And of course the 8 minutes helps me make use of tiny bits of time between activities on a hectic day - no "waiting until I have 'enough' time to clean." And just like the 8 minutes, 10 minutes an hour, for an 8 hour day, would be over an hour of cleaning. So.......GO, SWANNIE!
