I decided that I would start putting my homekeeping lists in a separate thread instead of continually cluttering my blog with them.
My lists will probably be different from others, as I am going to make it for a full week, and I will mark off the chores as I do them, at least daily.
I have come to realize that I LIKE lists, but I also often change the order after a couple of days, so often I am doing the same room or chore twice and missing others, so this will help keep me on track to cover everything. Also for weeks where I have an emergency, water is shut-off, I feel ill, or priorities change for whatever reason, it lets me pick up where I left off. I hope the general list will repeat each week, but the deep-cleaning part will change each week.
One new task that I hope to change, will be included in this list, and that is to get my dishes washed in the evenings instead of leaving them until morning. If I don't get them done at night, they will be included under the daily 'kitchen clean-up' but it would be so much nicer if I had done them ahead, because it slows down my day. This has been a challenge all of my life.
I plan to start a new list every Sunday - so this one is actually being started midweek, but since I have not done much so far on the weekly cleaning tasks, I might as well start this now.
This weeks list will follow in my next post here. I generally work through the workalong threads as I do each chore.

Thank you 1rarebeautifuldove. Now to evaluate my week. I am going to restart my lists every Sunday, and make any changes related to what I have observed. This week was different than most I have had, but I think a good learning tool. First was the birth of baby grandson last Sunday. I visited Sunday and then again Wed. I did not go back earlier in the week because most of the time I didn't know what was going on. Baby came home Thursday PM, and parents were exhausted, and probably their friendly neighbours were about to start coming around, so I let the try to rest. I have made arrangements to see them today. Because we didn't find out the baby's sex until it was born, shopping was delayed for gender-appropriate clothing. (The stores had very few neutral items). So 2 days this week I have been out shopping, but so far have only given the kids a couple of things because I didn't want to junk up their hospital room. The weather this week has been horrible - very cool with high winds and heavy rains on a few days - which limited things I could do on the balcony. In addition with the weather like this and being busier than normal decreased my getting out to walk - except 1 day I walked to the hospital. With winter approaching I need to re-introduce other exercise forms to do indoors, and not rely so much on counting steps. (I have a big fear of falling on ice, so I tend to not go out that much in winter.) I did walk another day down to the mall to get my hair cut. And towards the end of the week I spent time cleaning up my house to prepare for a visit from D, a friend I had not seen in over 40 years, yesterday. In addition the water here was turned off 1 day, so I couldn't do a lot then either. What I have mainly observed is that I had put down to do daily light dusting and dust-mopping. They did not happen daily. It really is overkill. I thought it might help me be company ready at all times, but the truth was that if I spent time doing them, it was taking time away from something more important. So I have now made them into twice weekly tasks instead of daily. Even with doing them less frequently, my house was good. (Except for the dirt that I spilled on my balcony during the heavy winds, which later got blown inside through my air conditioner vents!!!! Something I hope to never repeat!) It did end up being a good week. I accomplished the important things. And I was still ahead of the game enough, through maintenance, to not stress over my friends visit. Another habit I have been trying to get into was washing dishes at night, instead of in the AM. I have done that 3 days out of the last 4. I did not do them last PM. I think after my friend left, I kind of just went numb, now that everything this week was over. It had really been a busy week, and I just couldn't do much more then. I try to get most of my housework done in the mornings - so I am aiming to make it easier to do that. Some of the deeper cleaning stuff will be done in the afternoon but for the most part, I'd like the basics done by noon. Normally I like to get groceries Fri or Sat but I didn't this week. So I need to go today. I have in my mind an idea of the 'order' I want to do things in, with a day attached, but I don't want to be committed to do them that day. So in my list of weekly chores I am going to list them in the order that I think of, but no assigned day, so if the order looks odd, that is why. For this reason, groceries may appear twice - once for today, once for the end of the week. BTW next weekend is Canadian Thanksgiving, so I need to do some prep for that. I told the kids I would cook, and could bring the food wherever was convenient for them, but so far no real decisions have been made. I am still trying out the FODMAP diet so I need to see how I can work that in.

Tuesday Oct 6/15 I am totally revamping the order of my lists. While the above list works, and is not hard to accomplish, I mentally have difficulty plugging in doing the extra deep cleaning stuff. So if I clean a room a day, that guides me to WHEN to do the other stuff. And hopefully keeps messiness in 1 room at a time. Again I will not list this under specific days of the week headings, but it is in order of days. Last PM I also did Leslie Sansone Walk Away the Pounds DVD 1 mile. I found it challenging - a really good workout for me - especially when the weather is yucky. I want to stick with it. Even this first part uses the hand weights that came with it - but I did not use the hand weights yet, only did the arm motions. My upper body definitely needs to be worked on, especially since I had many arm and shoulder injuries over the years. None of my other usual exercise forms do this as much. I woke up this AM aching all over so I will have to see how it goes. I might need to use the Glider as an alternative a few times, since it has handles that work the upper body too. WEEK OF OCTOBER 4 - OCTOBER 10, 2015 DAILY: Self Care Exercise Log in calories, exercise in MyFitnessPal Bird Care Make bed, tidy bedroom Swish and swipe bathroom Tidy LR, DR, entrance, hall Kitchen clean up, counters, sink, stove Dust bird room Vac bird room Quiet time for reading, crochet or cross-stitch Wash dishes after supper Change tea towels Toss garbage TWICE A WEEK - clean bird cage (Su W) - toss garbage from bird room, bed room, bathroom (Su W) - water plants, indoors and out (Su W) - change towels (M Th) WEEKLY: Birdroom - empty vac - tidy - clean electronics - good dust dressers - dust down 2 or 3 book shelves - good vac floors - wash bird dishes Balcony - tidy, sweep - deadhead plants - fertilize plants when needed Compost to driveway bin (not needed this week) Pamper me - 1 special thing at least, facial, manicure or pedicure bought new pj's - figure out clothes etc for the week ahead Bathroom - vacuum floor - scrub sink and counter - scrub tub - scrub toilet inside and out - mop floors - restock supplies Bedroom - tidy - change sheets - clean electronics - dust - vac Laundry - linens - wash sheets, towels - wash table cloths, tea towels, if enough for a load - put away clean laundry and supplies Tidy - good tidy through - clear out fridge if needed - gather all loose paper Paperwork - put away receipts as needed - pay bills - log payments into Quicken, budget book - file or toss papers - shred papers as needed Errands - make list - shop - bring all items up from car - put all items away Living Room, Dining Room - tidy - change tablecloth if needed - clean electronics - dust - clean glass as needed - vacuum Phone Calls, if any needed Laundry - clothes - launder lights, mixed/ medium colours, darks - put away clean laundry and supplies Recycle items - take down and empty into bins in driveway Kitchen, Entrance - catch up on dishes - tidy - good scrub of sinks, counters, stove top - wipe up fridge spills, wipe outside - clean microwave, Foreman grill - refill containers as needed, restock - wipe cabinet fronts as needed - dust desk, book shelf, entrance table - vac floors kitchen, entrance - wash floors kitchen, entrance Laundry, if needed - cleaning cloths - put away laundry and supplies Groceries - clean out fridge - wipe down shelves if needed - make list - shop - do errands if in same plaza - bring up all items - put away all items Cook ahead - cook - clean up Declutter digital items - emails - desk top items - cell phone items DEEP CLEANING OR EXTRAS Balcony - buy fall mums - decided it was too late to get any now to enjoy since its too cool to sit out much - research overwintering geraniums Prepare letter for tax office - print out necessary inclusions - write letter - mail Thanksgiving prep - decide on dinner day and place - plan meal - shop - cook Car - oil change, emission testing - Wed 2 PM Visit dgs, ds and ddil Assess winter linens Wash down 1 set of kitchen cupboards Clean oven Replace burner pan liners Removed large one, nothing to replace it with, forgot to buy more Move extra items in bird room Hobby store? ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Yes, be careful hollyhock !!! I too, (initially) found this to be an ambitious workout - and even more so with the hand weights. (I notice not everyone on the video uses the weights.) As with SooS; this exercise DVD can be "adapted" to each individual's "uniqueness". You have given me the incentive to get back to the same video. But not today. After my company has come and gone. The Glider sounds good; as it is often recommended to "vary" the types of exercise we do. (I don't have room for a glider, but do have room for a collapsible exercise bike.) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ VERY interesting: Your "list" is so similar to mine; except that your BIRD CARE is my CAT CARE !!! vs Keep up the good work!!!

Thanks megsb. I took yesterday off from exercising. I browsed the adjoining store while my car was being serviced, and I had not wandered around more than 30 minutes when first my foot (old injury) started hurting, and then my back. Just like when I tried to work retail last year. So it was good that I had already decided not to exercise. There are Gliders now that fold-up. I have one of the old originals and it takes up a lot of space. I often consider buying the folding version - but I just can't justify spending money on something when I have one that is working (if I use it.) I do plan to go easy with the Leslie DVD's. I know the 1 girl uses no hand weights and another does limited movement. My plan was to use none and just do the arm movements without (like I do now)- then move to just holding the weights with no movement, then finally use the weights and do the movements. All of that before I can move to the 2 mile one. Its called 'High Calorie Burn' and they say it uses the weights too.

I am behind in my house this week. I have had a rough day or two, and am reconsidering changing my plans - again. And except for extra things being out right now, it really is not that dirty, if I work on the daily maintenance. I am considering a 10 day plan, instead of weekly again, where I actually work days off into my schedule - because working at it every day just wears me out sometimes. Over the past year I have found that if I give it 2 good days, I am exhausted the 3rd - so I need to work with that.
Today ds is coming this afternoon, to take out the ac units in the DR window and the enclosure in the bedroom wall. So today my main goal is to be ready for that - so just have stuff out of the way, and ready to clean off the a/c units before I put them into closets for storage. He may also be going through and we will look after all of my light bulbs. My ceilings are 10 feet high, so I need his help with that. Well, now that I think of it, its only in 3 areas, since I can reach the bathroom and DR lights, and we just did the kitchen and entrance - so it's only the hall, my bedroom and the spare room. So the plan today is to just tidy through.
And make up my grocery list. Trying to plan a gluten-free lactose-free low FODMAP Thanksgiving dinner that everyone will enjoy is challenging. It's taking a lot of research before I can even do anything. I hope to go for groceries Friday. Tonight I will probably need to do laundry.
On my new - not posted - 10 day plan, today would be for groceries and errands (2 days of the 10), but I need to do that tomorrow since I don't have a full menu made out yet. Tomorrow would be looking after the birds, the balcony and storage - and today I am pretty much looking after the storage areas by putting the ac units away. So the days are swapped. My other 'chore' for today is to dust-mop through so I will do that, although I know that once the ac unit is out, my DR needs a good vacuuming. I had dirt coming in the ac vents last week, some behind the console table.
In other words - my weekly plan posted above is not the real plan right now, but I will mark off what I do. Since Sat. is the 10th, the 10 day plan will start on Sunday, unless I just post it for the remainder of this week. I'll see.

I am trying to avoid today. Tomorrow I take our Thanksgiving meal to ds' house. That means today I need to cook. I do not enjoy cooking - and I tend to try to make things as simple as possible. However since I am doing this FODMAP elimination diet, my normal things are out, and I am trying to make substitutions that everyone will enjoy. Maybe that is why I feel so stressed.
I bought all of the ingredients yesterday - fridge stuff got in the fridge, bags got put away, and stuff needed for today's baking and cooking, and Sunday's transporting, got put on the DR table. After doing 2 loads of laundry in the evening, I managed to make myself a quick supper. Dishes have not been done for 2 days. So obviously I need to clean the kitchen before I can cook. I am procrastinating.
The good thing is that we are eating at their place - so if I leave a mess it wont matter so much - on Sunday.
But on Mon my long-lost friend D is supposed to be coming back for another visit - so I will need at least some of the basics done. I have not kept up my house well this week. It's not a huge mess - but again if I am cooking more, I might be creating more mess.
On further thought I think I need to cook enough today to have leftovers, so I won't need to cook much for Monday. Heaven knows I bought enough food!!!!
So roughly what I hope to do for the next 3 days:
SATURDAY: Catch up dishes Clean kitchen Cook - turkey breast - crustless pumpkin pie - stuffing - quinoa stuffing squash and cranberry stuffing - roast veggies? - will I cook mashed potatoes today or Sun? Tidy through Clean bird cage Dust through Clean up kitchen as much as possible
SUNDAY Cook anything still needing it mashed potatoes and roasted Brussel sprouts Finish kitchen clean up Too tired Take meal to ds' house and relax with my family Vac through Too tired MONDAY Finish dishes Do I need to cook anything more? more mashed potatoes, brocolli Scrub bathroom Scrub kitchen Mop floors
ADD Clean bird cage ADD Dust through ADD Vac through
I have been so tired this week that I have let things go. (I am updating my big list daily, but a lot of things are missing.
Tomorrow, the 11th, I will start my new 10 day list.

Post by hollyhock on Oct 11, 2015 5:29:54 GMT -5
Good Sunday Morning.
Today the plan is to start my new list. This is my 10 Day Routine. Meaning Day 1 falls on the 1st, 11th, and 21st etc., Day 2 on the 2nd, 12th, 22nd, etc In this I hope to do laundry on assigned days, but if those days fall on a Wed. which seems to be super busy down there, or a day with water shut off, I may switch that part.
I am going to post the whole 10 days on this list - and hope I keep it up. I am also going to try doing 3 zone/ deep cleaning areas and assign 1 to each 10 day session. I will update the list as the 10 days progress. Unfortunately I am starting off on a bad foot. I cooked a lot yesterday for Thanksgiving and the kitchen is a total wreck and will require a ton of cleaning. And tomorrow D is supposed to be coming for a visit, so I need to work on the whole house but mainly the kitchen.
The real reason I started this list is because I have noted that I can work well for 2 days, then the 3rd one I feel extra tired. Like I need a day off. So this 10 day rotation GIVES me a 'day off' every 3 days - so I never have to feel guilty for just relaxing. 'Day off' however does mean I will still do lighter tasks, like the bird cage, laundry, and some times paperwork. 1 day off I have down for personal errands - meaning things just for me - like hair cuts or clothes shopping etc. Or just stay home. Whatever I want.
So good room cleaning is going to be over a 10 day timespan, but I am going to do light cleaning, rotating chores every 3 days. I have also worked 2 grocery/ errand days into this rotation.
And I am going to try rotating exercising through, assigned to days, with regular days off. The days off will partly be my grocery days when my feet often hurt anyway. Most of my exercising will be with Leslie Sansone Walk Away the Pounds. Some days I will have 'Other exercise' - meaning it could be outside walking, Glider, or Bike.
I still have a few outstanding things to be done from my last list, so I am carrying them over to this rotation. I will post my rotation in a following post.

It seems as though my list revisions are continuing.
After my marathon cleaning before my guest came, it seemed like I was stuck in the middle, and there was a bit too much time 'off' in that 10 day rotation. My mind is always open for an improved version.
Then last night, way too late, a new idea suddenly came to me.
What I did like about the 10 days was how the zones (or deep cleaning) seemed to fit in better. No longer trying to figure out short zones for short bits of weeks that constantly change. I do 3 zones, each 10 days. Each zone will include 2 rooms, plus associated tasks (as in clothes with the bedroom area) to do over 10 days each month, so that the division of working in the 2 rooms can vary as per the needs that month.
The idea that came to me last PM was basing my more frequent chores on that 10 days, so as to not confuse things too much. Doing things every day or every 3 days seemed overkill, 10 days way too long. My conclusion was 5 days - a 5 day rotation, based on dates. If I rotate tasks every 5 days, even if I miss some I am still only another 5 days away from it coming up again!
As an aside, this may seem silly for some, but all of my plan times end up being based around Christmas. Even though my Christmas celebrations are now much less than when I was married, had kids at home and big family dinners, I still base it on Christmas because I still like that season. So I base my plans on what I clean when, so that decorating fits in, cleaning ahead, cooking the week of Christmas, and then the putting away. So my plans always work backwards from that point.
So I am going to post a new revised plan in my next post, which will only be 5 days. (6 days for this first one since I am starting it today, with 1 day left in the first cycle.) The 10 day posted list was way too long. 5 days is just enough that if something happened and I decided to switch days (like if the water was off for a day), it would be switched around within that time frame, and the long term deep cleaning will go for 2 5 day stretches. And because those have now changed, based on future Christmas preps, what I had posted in my last list will be changed too, but will be caught up within the month.
