The Admins have approved the following request for research.Research Participants Needed My name is Jayann Welly and I am conducting research as part of my honours thesis with the University of New England. I’m interested in exploring what role emotion regulation plays in hoarding symptoms. Hoarding is an often misunderstood topic and I hope my research will lead to improved education and consequently less stigma for those who hoard. I am looking for participants who are 18 years or older who would be willing to complete an online survey. Participants can have no problems with hoarding up to any level of difficulty with hoarding. All data is collected anonymously. This project has been approved by the Human Research Ethics Committee of the University of New England (Approval No: HE15-032, Valid to 20/04/16). Thanks dayeanu for doing my survey. I'm afraid I'm not very technical and couldn't get the link to work by clicking on it. If anyone else has a problem let me know ... maybe I could try posting it again.

I took the survey. It was painless. Good luck with your thesis!

I took it. I really appreciated the Information Page at the beginning and how the researcher is concerned with the possible needs of the participants.
Good luck.

I started it and it kept giving me errors. This may be an internet problem with my computer. I will try again later.

Took the survey... maybe you should have added an optional box at the end to ask us how we classify our clutter/hoarding tendencies. While i am not the traditional "gatherer of stuff" my hoarding stems from depression and anxiety manifesting in my environment

Good luck with your thesis! I am better with open ended type questions but did my best in selecting answers. Not sure if I'm a hoarder or not. I do have clutter all over yet most of my home is usable.

cando, that was my problem. I too deal better with open ended questions. I always have trouble rating on a scale. I over think them

Yes, I felt that some of my answers required more explanation. Like, yes - my living areas are mostly clear of clutter and usable most of the time. But I have significant, difficult-to-dispose-of clutter in other areas.
The dynamics of living with hoarders sort of screwed up the answers for me.
The issue of poverty obscures the issue of acquiring. Yes, I'm distressed when I can't buy something I desperately need. I'm not the least bit tempted to buy things I don't need. But I do remember having money and enjoying shopping, and yes, it was really easy to acquire more things than I had space for in those days.
So I'm not sure how useful my answers will be because I felt that in some ways I was not the right type of person ... my issues are not quite the issues under study here ...
