The goal: to get 2016 items out of our homes by the end of 2016 The method: that is up to you! You might imagine that 2016 things is a huge number and that only those with the worst hoards could manage it, but I've got a secret for you:
Average people who don't have squalor or behavior recognized as hoarding have enough extra stuff in their homes to do this challenge too. Lots of people have "clutter" even if they do find room for all of it in their homes.
You might also imagine that 2016 things is way, way too many to handle or count, but let's do the math: 2016 divided by 365 days = 5.5{23287671repeating} FIVE AND A HALF THINGS A DAY! That's it! Five things one day, six things the next!
Past participants have counted every little thing or by the bag or not at all.
Some of us count papers by the sheet or inch or bundle etc...
We've counted trash, donations, regifts, and the release of old habits, pounds lost, even people!
Jump in when and how you like, or just drop in to cheer us on.
Everything we get rid of is a great accomplishment, even if we miss the mark.
Won't you join us? You really can't lose!

I don't know that I have that many items left to purge, but for a few days I will keep a count and see how it goes. I think that maybe the unwanted items coming in might bring up the tally. Clarify please. Do items need to go in the trash or can they be recycled or repurposed or donated too? I'm hoping that the key idea is "Gone from our lives"

Yup, GONE: used up, tossed out, recycled, regifted, dumped, lost (as in weight or bad habits), donated, sold even (as long as you aren't bringing things in to sell)!

Hi HI
thanks GRACE so i have been purging for years and now I'm at the place where i just want to keep things up and just keep refining. I used to do the flylady system religiously and it was a big help taught me a lot i never knew. I used to do all the missions and the challenges and the whb etc it was great but now i have realized i was thinking and cleaning all the time i am working now and can't so i clean every monday... and do our laundry. i really only have to do the big clean every other monday but if i shoot for every monday i stay more focused and don't forget about it... and i do it for ME i love how it feels when its all done... like someone came and cleaned my house... I also found organize365.com this year and have gotten some great idea how to keep paper clutter under control i do a thing now called the sunday basket but thats one of the things i want to change i think i will do it fridays.. in that basket is all the paper that came in the house that i didn't have to deal with right away i go through it and i do my calendar for the week etc. love this way to do things. Make my menus and grocery lists etc. so now i have a better routine for that... anyway... its a step at a time that is for sure and we are probably all SHES here and i know i will forget to keep up hahah and i can't... now my goal is get it done and enjoy it the rest of the week i am so use to always working now and i need to stop that...
ok ladies to a great new year!! we can do it

Hi all I'm in !! My 2 month goal is to get rid of 3 magazines a day (I know I have many too many and find it hard to let them go!! ) Another goal is 3 other pieces of paper, other than mail, and My third is to free one piece of clothing or something else in my vast collection. That gets me to 6 items per day and I think it is doable

I have a tough time letting go of magazines, too, iprocrastinate!
I've been shooting for 3 a week, and I, more often than not, do not make that goal. . . Sigh!
I'll keep working on it, and I will be thinking of you when I do!
Thanks!!

Im in! Im going to do two separate counts: one for paper, one for everything else. Im also going to add any items that come into the house, including groceries. (Because i tend to hoard food plus lots of other things). So if i get rid of ten items but two come in, my net for the day is 8 items. The net number is what i will report.
So my total for today is 28 non paper items.
ETA: final count for 1/1/16 was 40 non paper items. Did a few more 10 minute sessions after i posted.

I'm in! I saw this in bed last night, when it was too late to make a purposeful effort to do this, so yesterday's was just random rubbish. Veg peelings to the compost bin, pizza boxes and plastic bottles to the recycling bin, and rubbish to the general household waste wheelie bin. I'm not sure how to count that up though. Today's list is two pairs of shoes, a coat and a couple of jumpers bagged up to go to my sister. It hasn't left the house yet, and will be waiting here until next week probably. But I'm counting them, as I know they will definitely be going for good
