For maintenance today I swished and scrubbed the toilet twice. I am going to try to do it every day for a while to hopefully get it clean.
I also washed my sheets and made up my bed. I peeped the car too. Also I refilled water jugs and watered plants.

I would like to start doing this again. When I broke my foot, I fell out of the few good habits I had established. I want to get back to it and get back to exercising too. I'm going to start with 10 min/day. I know it seems ridiculously small, but having a doable goal really helps to motivate me. It is a good way to undercut the automatic negative thinking-"I'll never be able to do it all, so why bother"-that undermines me.
I cleaned up the mess in the kitchen for about 20 min. It was not hard! My mood is actually ok today! Will go on chat for a few more 10 min challenges.

Good for you grasshopper! I think we have all seen the power of small increments when getting back into maintenance. 10 minutes sounds like a great goal. It's amazing what can be accomplished in 10 minutes!

This sounds like a great idea. While currently I'm very focused on basic decluttering, I need to defend places I have set free. And it would be good practice for the future.
10 minutes minimum/day sounds about right for me too. In a week, that would add up to over an hour.

So glad to see this thread revived. I had quite forgotten about it. It is just what I need to get my routine going. Building small habits Every day. 2 10 min increments of maintenance. Perfect!

i'm never gonna get the hang of maintenance if i don't DO it daily. duh! Same here. It's something I just never think about doing. So I don't until it's crisis cleaning time.
But this morning, I got up and decided to get my 10 minutes out of the way, first thing. (Did feed the cat since he was insisting on it.) I was planning on 10 minutes but decided to not look at the clock, nor set a timer. I started in the bathroom, cleaned the toilet, and sink and other soapy bits, then made the floor ready for vacuuming, then vacuumed.
I don't know how long that took, no doubt more than 10 minutes, but it looks nice and spiffy in there. And it was painless. Such a concept!

How great that so many people want to join in! Welcome old friends! We can do this!
Friday I did 10 min of laundry and kitchen clean up before work. Yesterday I did a significant amount of tidying up after work. I did laundry. I put pile of clothes on the couch away. I vacuumed under couch cushions. I straightened up the top of the bookshelf. Picked up papers. Took out recycling, garbage and compost. I also called my mom.
I've also been stretching and wt lifting in the mornings. Along with the vitamin D it is helping my body feel less sore.

Today that 10 minutes was like pulling teeth - difficult. Amazing what resistance can do. But I did it. Laundry tasks, organized dishes next to sink, and picked up a few things from the floor.

Today that 10 minutes was like pulling teeth - difficult. Amazing what resistance can do. But I did it. Laundry tasks, organized dishes next to sink, and picked up a few things from the floor. Sometimes working for a specific time works for me, sometimes it doesn't. This morning I again woke up to great resistance at the idea of 'only' maintaining for 10 minutes. So I decided that might not work so well for me. So... I decided that instead of the goal being a specific time, that I would just do a few easy maintaining tasks that I saw as I went about the house. And that's what I did. Same work. No pressure.
Wiped down several door jams and spots on walls and light switches. Picked up two pair of shoes in living room and took to bedroom. Moved piece of cardboard from leaning against a wall. Stacked 'keeper' charity boxes neatly. Put a scant few items into recycling.
There. Done. Painless.
Sure there is more to do. But 'Tomorrow is another day'.

Good work, @betsymaria! You are doing great! I'm back on track today too!
Sunday and Monday had what felt like long work days. Not a good excuse, but I didn't do any maintenance that I can recall. Today I finally paid my bills. Very late this month. Now I am trying to figure out my health plan choices. The deadline is Friday. I don't understand it. I am very frustrated by not being able to understand my options or even what my current coverage is. I am super confused and feel powerless and not in control. This is echoing a feeling of not being safe that I've had because of national events. That got a little off track. Basically, I'm doing far more then 10 min of financial maintenance today, so good for me I guess.

I spent at least 20 min cleaning up dishes yesterday and about 20 min working on mail. I also ironed for about 30 min. I feel like things are looking up!

So didn't manage any maintenance on Saturday or Sunday. Sunday was a particular long work day. On Friday however I picked up clothes, did laundry and fixed the drain.
