insert code hereI'm taking a break from working on my bins--because I need to work on the income tax. Might start another one, though, and use it to take breaks from the taxes. But just reading this thread will keep me motivated! Unswamping , I have been wanting to tell you that I just love watching the little sculptor guy that keeps working hard at the bottom of your posts! He is also a good motivator. |

I got rid of 6 boxes today ~ 1 got reused to store footwear, but the rest are on the porch. I still have a ton of hoardy boxes in the closets, but the ones out in the open are gone.  I even got a suitcase emptied, full of pictures and other personal stuff. I did have to start 4 baskets, to put things into categories: paper, personal, tools/fix-its, and donations. The fabric hoard is bagged & in the closet. I wish I could use bins, but they don't fit on the shelving units I put up in there. WTG getting the chair out, Unswamping and having more lighting - that should make things so much nicer for you in there. Good work with your taxes peaceandfreedom I need to deal with that too. |

 cyn! That is so amazing! I wish you could get the fabric into bins, maybe down the road, you can find bins that fit. Even better maybe you could use some of your stash.  peaceandfreedom hope the taxes go simply and quickly. |

Took the bin with drawers out of the bathroom. Moved the rolling cart from the dining room back into the office and loaded the drawers back in. Now the empty bin is back in the bathroom. As soon as i find the lid, i can use it to repack the holiday stuff in the bathroom.

Well, I managed to evade doing the taxes today. The rain stopped and sun was out in the afternoon, so I worked outside on a different kind of "b"--I installed metal bands on the side of the garage to hold 2 downspouts securely in place. In 2009 we had the garage renovated and insulated, and the contractor evidently forgot to put the metal bands on. So, about once a year when the wind blows hard the downspouts would come apart and we'd find them strewn across the yard. So, hopefully that problem is now fixed. I like doing projects like that--always enjoy working with my hands.
So, tomorrow I plan to work with my head and start the taxes, unless I can find something else to do again!

Unswamping WTG getting that shelving bin back into the office, and having an empty bin to store your decorations! peaceandfreedom WTG for fixing the downspouts - enjoying sunshine is a wonderful, the taxes can wait! Oh no, don't listen to me, I *have* to get to my taxes - which involves digging up paperwork...ewwww...  And I'm happy to brag that I just climbed another rung up, on my hoarding ladder!  I actually recycled 4 perfectly wonderful cookie tins, that had *all sorts* of storage potential. Wow! I can't believe it - I really tossed them. I even tossed a coffee can, while I was at it,  . I do have a bunch more coffee cans on the porch already, for egg shells (there's no danger of me running out of those) but the cookie tins were a tough one. Thankfully I didn't have something at the ready, to put into them.

peaceandfreedom great job on fixing those downspouts. Can you break working on the taxes done into small bits, ie gathering receipts, gathering foms, etc. Didnt someone have a tax thread last year? cyn great job on letting go of those cookie tins and a coffee can too. Why do you put egg shells in coffee cans? Just curious. 1rarebeautifuldove great job on putting away the shop and drop! I just took a look around my bathroom. From the eleven bins and boxes that were in there when i started this thread, there are five now: three of holiday stuff to be repacked, one of "pending" electronics and one of papers. The "pending" electronics are things that are not staying long term, i just need them temporarily until i can transfer any data i need, then they go onto to another home. I am working on that, a bit at a time, i cleared off 54 floppy disks the other week. There is no room is the office for that tote, at least while the heat is still on. If i can get the holiday stuff repacked and back in the closet, i can move to the tote to where they are now. At least it will be out of the way, yet accessible as i work on it.

1rarebeautifuldove WTG with your shop & drop bags - I'm trying very hard to put things away - right away. It doesn't always happen, and lots of times I don't know where I should put it (or if I have room, ha) so I know what a big step forward this is. Congrats! Unswamping Wow, you cut your bin stash by more than half ~ that's awesome! WTG! And for clearing the floppy discs too - you've been working hard. I hear you about waiting for the heat to turn off. I've got a perfect little cubby hole in front of my furnace, where I can store a nice stack of bins - out of the way. But not yet, since the furnace needs that area empty, for circulation. Not that I should be thinking about stacking bins or anything... My porch bins haven't been touched this week. I'm still working on making room in the doom room, for the keeper bins. I've got 3 small bins in the bedroom that I want to work on today, so that I can do a once-over and get the room sparkling for carpet guy. The plant table in there's a huge mess, strewn with stuff, and I can't leave it like that. The night table had lots of room in it (once I go through the crap in there, ugh) so I can repack the small bins with things I want to keep, to store them there.

cyn are you getting new carpet? I really want/need new flooring in most of my house. The bedroom carpet is faded by the sun in places and my sister-in-law's son got stuff in that carpet and in the other carpet of the other room he slept in. (he slept in both rooms) (I was staying at my Gram's - it was right around the time she died, in the couple months before and month after) I am learning to put things away/pick up after myself. In a slightly different "B" - I finished the box of large black garbage bags, 42 of them in all and so we bought another box last night, so that I could continue to use those. I bought some pink and blue bags from the dollar store, but they rip too easily. I use them to put a couple filled grocery bags in, then they go in the bigger bags. I suppose I "could" just throw them out. But even to fill one of those gives me a sense of accomplishment. (same reason I am using up all the plastic bags and sending them out as they came in - with stuff in them) Unswamping - that is great that you got half of your bins emptied!!! YAY! peaceandfreedom - that's great that you are able to fix things. Great job on the downspouts!!

1rarebeautifuldove No, I'd *never* be able to expose *all* my entire floors! I'm just having someone in to clean the pet stains & lift up the dirt. I have a small carpet cleaner, but I wanted someone in to do it with a commercial cleaner, and see how much better it could get. We laid these carpets before I moved my hoard of furniture in, about 7 years ago, so they're not too old to benefit from this. I hope! Ha! WTG filling up those bags - yay for getting stuff out! I just filled up 2 of the boxes I emptied the other day - with donations!

I've thought it would be nice too to have a professional come clean my carpets. Right now a dream. But might be well worth it. At the hotel, every spring we rented one of those machines and did all the rooms. Part of spring cleaning. We have a machine, but it does not seem to work that well. cyn - what a great use of those boxes!!!! |

cyn and 1rarebeautifuldove i havent emptied half of all my bins, just half of the bins that were in the bathroom. My total bin count is very depressing three digit number. But im not going to think about that right now, im just focusing on one room, one bin at a time. No bin work yesterday or today but i did work on a bookcase last night. I decided if i cant deal with books right now, i could work on my magazine hoard. I filled a shopping bag with 65 magazines plus put 5 more in the recycling bin. The shopping bag will be donated with the donation bin contents. And later i tossed in 9 books. Vyas, great job on emptying the bag of trash bags. That means you took out 42 bags of trash. High five! Cyn great job on filling those empty boxes with donations, that is awesome.

Bins and drawers and shelves! It's been insane here. Son and his family live in a third world country. They're moving into our basement in mid-April for 6 months, as they are having a baby in May. They'll move back when the baby is four months old. We have to make room for them! There's a perfectly good basement with two bedrooms they can use, a bathroom/shower, a tiny kitchen and a living room, if we can just clear it out.
The good news: This has finally gotten my husband motivated to help, and when he gets motivated and I stay out of his way, things go better. I just can't look at whatever he throws out!!
When my parents downsized, all the family pictures for generations were dumped on me. There are about 15 bins of pictures and memorabilia. My husband made one of the rooms down there into a photography studio, and moved out bins of old music and book CDs. There were boxes and boxes of stuff from his work that he brought home to sort and promptly forgot about. I'm just scratching the surface in my explanation.
We're trying to clear out and organize one room so there's room to move the family memorabilia into it. I've been making progress sorting and tossing and preparing for scanning, but that is ONE HUGE JOB! There are 7 generations of pictures.
Believe me, we've been in bin dumping mode. And bin filling mode. But we did haul seven big boxes of work stuff and recycling to his work site the other night.
Tonight I found 23 dead batteries for the recycler, $1.43 in change, many very old computer programs and Turbo Tax programs to toss, and I did a fair amount of shredding.
Little by little ...
