oh H2H; i'm boo-hooing along with you. comfortable shoes are sooo hard to toss - but you did it! yay for ridding yourself of ivy roots and invasive bulbs too! agree with you on the poor old hoarder - why couldn't he have been left in peace on his own property? i just found out about the Van Bramer case - watching that movie made me cry my eyes out. That poor man and his animals! today i attempted a sale - the rest of my dahlias and some potted perennials went to a person for a bargain. i sold a paint cabinet for 10 bucks. i have a little more room in the storage unit.

creativechaos asked: old hoarder - why couldn't he have been left in peace on his own property?
yep..it seems even in rural areas were are all being held to stricter rules. He does have such a visual "pile" issue, and prolly nearby neighbors want better values for their property..which is dragged down by the 'lowest' house around them.
Came home from errands yesterday, and even seeing the front yard "with fresh eyes" which I thot was 'presentable' ....I see so many little bits that need to GO..all visual clutter from a ceramic duck (top of a soup tureen) ow acting like a nesting creature under a shrub, to some empty plastic pottery, to bins and other gear ..it just looks awful and so cluttered despite the pretty things growing.
dragged all my gate repair gear, to finally finish, sitting stool, crews, scraper, etc out front, and the battery was dead on the drill..drag it all back in wait for recharge..but CLOSER to being done... hahahah. onward
I BELIEVE in the old Chinese truism : "Man who finish house die." I shall live forever!

last last night iI sat and dug out more bulbs, and dumped about 200+ into the trashcan for today's haul a way garbage pickup.
the rotted fence are parked to the side for the free pickup, once I get more to toss.
I love have 2 free big trash hauls a year can be as large as TWO refrigerators..some here have free curbside all the time, but we do not.
So I take advantage.
also pulled many dozens of green tops of the same flower bulb, and a small pile of pulled ivy.

woo hoo! good day of releasing. 6 boxes of stuff taken out of storage and left curbside - mostly fabric but also dishes, vases, a wok, a few books, and other odds and ends. plus a really fine vintage (the first ever made) White Electric portable from the 1940s! that was so hard - the sewing machine - but it's so heavy (like 40+ lbs with the case! i can't lift it anymore). these two young guys stopped by late in the day, and took everything and seemed glad to get it. One guy excitedly told me that he had just acquired a 1040's singer - so he knows old machines! (i'm hopeful about some of the youth! ) that took the sting out of it a little bit regarding the sewing machine - but not entirely; i have many happy memories of sewing on it over the past 30 years, up until i got the 1978 singer stylist that is my main sewing machine. i keep reminding self that someone will USE it and it's a great machine that will always be easy to fix - and young people are beginning to see the value of things like all-metal sewing machines! one large tray of cds donated to library

i have a recent "rid" - 1 grocery bag of clothing and a bag of trash from the storage unit - but nothing today. i think i'll chuck some guilt and over-responsibility though; who says you can't get rid of intangibles? nice to see you here def6- thanks for reminding me about this thread - such good motivation.

Today I filled 2/3 of the trash can with real junk from the back yard. I had been putting that job off for a long time. Glad it's done.
Also tossed half a large bag of chicken tenders that had freezer burn and was just too old. I hate to waste things but it was too far gone to even prepare for the cats.

I also shredded a stack of old papers.

I have difficulty getting rid of food items unless they are very spoiled. But they are just like anything else I don't really want. They take up just as much space as actual junk. Sadly, our food banks don't take things past 'best by' dates. And some stuff I've made no one would really want. So today I was able to get rid of some food items - either into the trash can, or poured down the drain.
-2 large bags of oatmeal -2 canisters of dry soup -about 30 cans of canned soup that would never be eaten -8 cans of pork and beans
And poured down the drain: -2 bottles of experimental homemade limoncello -3 gallons of homemade hard cider (too strong and too sweet) -1 gallon of apple juice turned very dark -1 gallon of grape juice turned black
These things were just sitting on the floor taking up space. And now they are gone!
There is more to go, but the trash can already is full. The more space I can free up, the easier it will be to put away things I want to keep.

Early this morning I took out 4 more cases of old soup. One batch was dated 2006! My trash can was full, but I crammed one case on top (can't close the lid now) and was able to put the other three cases in my neighbor's can.
I was never going to eat it. I couldn't/didn't want to give it away. No other alternative but finally toss it.
There was no other viable alternative, but what a waste. Sadly that's one of the truths about hoarding more than one can ever use. Too much is just too much.
