WTG on tossing that old soup, and for your revelations, BetsyMarie. you're so right - hoarding is a waste- how ironic that in trying to "save," we waste. tossed a large-ish, heavy round mirror that i was "gonna" mosaic "someday", over the large spot where all the silvering had come off. not gonna - bye bye! (tried not to break it as i put it in the dumpster)

spiral bound notebook with all my old computer notes - most that that are obsolete - all into recycle - didn't even look to see if i "needed" any information. it felt good - hope to toss more papers like this "blind." tossed some old printer cartridges for a printer that i ditched earlier this year from storage.

Got rid of a few timetables and tourist brochures,,, oddly they survived the paperwork cull several times before, despite being way out of date,, ,,, I realized i had fallen into that classic trap of keeping lots of leaflets around to jog my memory of possible places to go, and things to do,, even though I would probably not do them or go there...

Today I got rid of more candle scraps. Of course the plan was to melt them down and make another. And sometimes I do that. But these were just little bits of different colors that were never going to work. Out they went.
I also got rid of a small ceramic pitcher that was grungy, that I no longer used, and that, frankly, I hated. Yet I've kept it for a number of years. I didn't even want to clean it for the donation pile.
And, a real piece of Tupperware. This was particularly hard. I love real Tupperware, especially the old styles. But there was no lid, and the inside was all scuffed. So out it went.
These were just small things, but each had meaning of sorts. These are the kind of things 'normal' people just get rid of without a second thought.
Feel the discomfort and do it anyway.

A chest of drawers left my home to be used by a teenager that needed one. I had moved it elsewhere in my home to use for storage. I wanted to keep it but someone needed one so decided to give it.

Today I put in the trash more old food long past 'best by' date. Like almost a decade old. About a half trash can full. Some was from emergency supplies, some that had been languishing in the cupboard.
I also got rid of the prettiest empty olive oil bottle. I'd been saving it for a few years. Saving it for what, I don't know. It's in recycling outside now.
And also a few quite nice pine cones. You can only keep so much 'nice' things with little value or potential use.

Lots went out today. 4 suitcases. 1 large bag of garbage. $10 in return bottles and plastic. One log cabin lamp. Hanging strawberry planter. Lots of plastic bags and other recycling to curbside for pick-up. More to come as I have a pick-up scheduled for next week, Tuesday I think.

great work on all your releases, BetsyMarie! wow, nekomom, how generous of you to give away the dresser that you wanted to keep - good work! WTG on lots OUT, itsybitsy! nice to see this thread more "active" again. OUT today: manuals to an old printer, and some ink cartridges. a moldy-smelling piece of masonite from storage that i was "maybe" going to paint on. i didn't - it STUNK! - OUT. wonder what else is too mildewed to keep. oh well - anything that smells of mold WILL be tossed.

i agree its good to see this thread going again. BetsyMarie great going on getting rid of that stuff and your great insights too.
nekomom great job on giving away that dresser. I am sure teenager appreciated it and its one less place to store stuff you dont need.
itsybitsy great work on getting all that out! Bravo!
creativechaos terrific that you decided to toss mildewy stuff. Thats a great rule! Im glad you didnt paint on it, your art deserves better.
I just tossed a doll crib. I got it at a yard sale, real cheap. It was cheap plastic and actually very bulky. Ive been shifting it around for a year and recently been bouncing between keeping it and donating it. I was taking it apart today to store it away and it broke! Felt bad for a minute then realized, its now easy to put it in a trash bag. Realized my baby doll (that i had since i was tiny) deserves better than that and if i want to, i could build one of wood that is worthy of her. Its bagged now and im not feeling bad. I gained the space it was taking up! Yippee!

unswamping i ALSO have a very old, adorable, but fully fallen apart 1950s "baby buggy" for dolls..for years It held pots of blooming flowers, and sat in the front yard, cute as could-be-the white wicker basket freshly painted.. now I wave 4 wheels, part of the frame, and nothing else.. I will keep the memories.
Today I stripped of 14 more fence boards, 2 rotted 2x4s, pulled nails, hauled off weed pile, trimmed a full leggy shrub to the ground by the fence, then bleach/scrubbed the tall posts needing fresh paint. whew!

Tomorrow is trash day. Besides house trash, out when a bag of stuff (formerly known as 'food') tossed from the frig. Also a good number of too old veggie garden seeds stored in the frig. Also a bag of winter squashes that had gotten too old.
Not great volume, but stuff that just needed to go. And enough to top off the entire trash can.
Another week of more stuff leaving the house than coming in. Always good.

I bought a new coffee pot last month and today I took the old coffee machine and a fan that I don't use as well as some knickknacks to donation center. Yay-more out then came in. I do recommend the type of coffee maker I got. The coffee dispenses into a thermos. There is no heating element on the machine. So less worry to me that the pot is left on.

BetsyMarie donate the dictionary to a school or a mother who is doing physical therapy. I use my big hardcover dictionary for the baby to step up and down on. It exercises his legs.
