Wow, indeed.
Today I put out all the collected 'stuff' for tomorrows special pick up. It came to 40 bags and/or larger pieces of stuff.
If I had the energy, I could bag up more, but that will have to do. Besides, I don't want to shock the neighbors too badly, . I don't know when pickup is.... they said anytime from 6 am to 5 pm, so it is possible I could put out a few more things tomorrow, but I'm not counting on it. Only if it is easy. I'm planning on taking tomorrow off, but you never know.
In addition to things from the garage, I walked around the yard and put out some easy pickin's. 3 old, short, shaky benches. One badly tearing trash can which I filled with junk.
There are more boxes and plastic I could put out, but that all can go into recycling, so no reason to over-burden the landfill.
And confession time... I ended up pardoning the wicker reindeer. I put it in the front yard as a holiday decoration. A bit early, but it looks good. I put a fresh red bow on it's neck... instead of the trash man's noose. Win-win.

Today of note I tossed:
-2 old cheeses I had made from milk a few years ago. I was never going to eat them. They were already so hard I couldn't cut into them, even if I had tried an ax. All that work for naught. Oh well.
-an interesting metal feature (yard sale find) I was never going to use it, I had grown tired of it, and it kept getting in the way. Into to the charity shop pile.
-a couple vacuumed sealed packets of primo rice for risotto. They were lovely, but at least a decade old. And I'm not into carbs anymore. Buh-bye.

Today I was thinning the book herd. Old text books, paperbacks, and just about anything else I don't look at anymore. About 30 thus far as set for re-distribution to elsewhere.
The more of my generic books I can get rid of, the more cookbooks I can keep. I'm planning on consolidating a few book shelves, and all into one room.
Of note was my first ever purchased cookbook as a young adult. It was jam-packed with masses of collected recipes. Only I doubt they were ever kitchen-tested. I'm a good cook now, but at the time what was in that book just didn't work out very often. Though there was one strawberry short cake which was rather yummy. I would have been far better off purchasing a good old standard such as the Joy of Cooking. Live and learn. I havent even opened that book in years. Out it goes.

4 cans of evaporated milk with expiration dates of 2011 and 2012. Lesson learned: no need to buy more of this except for what I will use immediately. Don't use it very often (obvious) so why keep it on hand?
Went to store today, and among other items, bought 2 new cans. Will use them both tomorrow for making 2 pumpkin pies.
Bonus: now have a small bare space on shelf in pantry.

Nothing special today (yet), but I just filled the large recycling bin about 2/3 full. This was the backlog waiting to go out after yesterday's pickup. I still have some boxes to flatten, but those will go on top.
Everything removed from the house helps.

In the past couple of days, I got rid of:
5 bottles of salad dressing that had expired in 2014;
1 old SONY Walkman cassette player;
1 cassette tape recorder;
*please note: I got rid of all my cassettes at least 10 years ago!
1 old Kodak Digital Camera (one of the very early digitals made) that someone gave me back in maybe 1998? Never used it. BTW, it was gigantic;
1 summer raincoat that I have struggled over for years about tossing, because I love the print on the fabric. Well, I brought it with me on vacation this past summer and realized it didn't fit well and I hate it on me. Still, it took me until now to toss it;
3 or 4 ratty sweaters;
1 shopping bag of dishes & bowls of various sizes;
1 pair of Anne Klein sandals that I only wore once because they hurt, but I loved how they looked and so would put them in a bag for the thrift shop only to retrieve it again, oh probably every year for the past 10 years or so. Finally realized they were beat up from getting tossed around and a full size smaller than what I am now, so out they went;
250 (approx.) business cards for a business that has been on hiatus for 6 years now, and I no longer have the phone number that is on them; and
a bunch of other junky stuff I can't even remember now.

Today I finally loaded the car with the 'electronic waste' I've been collecting for too many months, and took it to the free dump drop-off. This stuff had been stacked by the front door...
Today I got rid of: -2 old, small tv sets -3 old turntables, non working. (Yet I still have the records) -1 vcr -2 non functioning sewing machines (there is a 3rd one I can't quite reach yet) -dead vacuum - over 25 years old -2 sets of small, old computer speakers that don't work well -a couple old phones -a few old things from the kitchen
As I drove away after leaving this trove of no-longer-functional stuff behind, I was feeling like I was losing something good. I looked at my feelings as if they were some sort of lab experiment and realized I'll probably always feel a loss when getting rid of things that had served me well. So be it. They are just normal, natural feelings and a part of living.

Today I offered a few things on our local Freecycle group. If there is no interest, I'll add them to the boxes I'm preparing to drop off the donation center on Saturday. My goal is to get rid of at least 100 more items by the end of the year. That doesn't seem like much, but getting rid of stuff is still hard for me even though I've been working on it for several years.
~~ UPDATED ~~ 2 items were picked up by Freecycler 12/2/16. The rest are in the donation box, which I hope to drop off soon.

A small victory this morning. I put into the trash a pair of generic reading glasses with one 'arm' broken off. They were fairly new, and a cool color, but non functional. I kept thinking I'd fix them somehow, but knew that would be unsatisfactory. Yet they hung around.. and I kept seeing them and thinking they were a different functional pair and being disappointed when they weren't. So, out they went.

Hot tea maker that was a hand me down. It never worked worth a darn.
The base of a blender with no jar.
Some boxes.
