Thursday (yesterday). I didn't start the day with a quick pickup. I was so enthused about getting into the laundry room/walk in closet/bedroom to begin work there, I went with what I considered the greater good. I was aware however, that I had skipped my new morning ritual, so throughout the day, did a bit here and there. Good enough. Friday - today. -stripped bed -new sheets and new under pillow coverings, plus fresh pillow cases -warmer bedding exchange, and put away old -went through laundry products in order to use up odds and ends -filled dispans - suds and dishes -put away scant few dry dishes -miscellaneous this and that -breakfast, and put away -cleared dining table -put away odds and ends -removed extra pillows from couch I did a little extra because of not doing much yesterday.

Sunday - earlier today: -laundry tasks -put shoes in their spot -breakfast and put away afterwards -organized soiled dishes I'm not remembering it all. It doesn't really matter exactly what I did, just so I did something.

I decided to try something new this morning - to use a timer instead of trying to remember the various tasks I did. So I set it for one hour, with the intent of not working a full hour, but when I was finished, to see how much time I had done.
I really like the results. It was surprisingly freeing. I could just work away, switching from this to that, whatever needed doing, and in the end, I did indeed work for one hour. And the house, where I worked, looks much better.
My intent is to keep fine-tuning until maintaining becomes a natural, unthinking part of my daily life. With that in mind, I'll probably stop daily reports come Jan 1. Unless it seems beneficial to continue.

Did the timer thing again. Still liking it. Today, about 30 minutes, mostly in the kitchen. After yesterday's work, not much else to do (in terms of light maintaining) (if I don't look too closely)

Using the 'reverse' timer is a great idea BetsyMarie. It is freeing plus enlightening. I sometimes do that when I dust or vac the whole apt. just to see how long it really does take. And it's surprising that it takes so little time if other maintenance is done, and you quit procrastinating on it and just do it.
Congrats to you on all you are accomplishing. You are doing great.

I didn't realize how much I still had to do before Sunday. But I am picking up and putting away, and doing little things to keep the place tidy that I never would have before. The kitchen is not spotless, but as I cook/bake, I'm keeping the dishes washed and counters neater. This simply makes getting things done so much more enjoyable - and I wont have a big clean-up waiting for me.

what a great thread full of brilliant ideas and routines! i find i am totally "clutterblind" so obviously, i belong here. will look around and see what needs doing and visit when here. this morning it's last minute packages to mail and a few cards to write. the rest can wait til after Christmas. put away clean dishes hang up any stray clothes that i threw down the night before shower make list of town errands and do them. then we'll see! thank you for starting this thread BetsyMarie. i really love your idea of working for one hour and letting that work evolve organically - which is the way i work a lot of the time. any work done is better than avoiding it in despair and fear! great work, all! hoping it's contagious!

I said that two days ago.
And now it's changed. No one can explode a kitchen faster than I can. I will have a big clean up waiting, but yesterday as I did more cooking and baking, I decided in the limited time I had, to enjoy cutting cookie shapes and decorating them, etc and not worry about the mess I was creating. It was wonderful having the clear surfaces to do things, and those will now need attention - tomorrow.
This morning I did empty the dishpans, clean them, and bring more miscellaneous dishes to the sink, and a couple other little things.... because I wanted to. That didn't make things neat again, but it will make it easier for tomorrow morning.
It's not about being perfect, it's about finding what works to make life better. Balance.
