I'm making a new thread for this topic for the new year, I hope to have company here in reporting every week that we successfully did something we've been procrastinating about. I procrastinate far too much--sometimes it's an important thing that has negative consequences if I delay, other times it's a small, easy thing and after I finally do it I wonder why I put it off.
I hope that committing to doing this will help me break the habit of putting things off. I'm even going to add a ticker to my posts that keeps track of how many weeks I'm able to do this and report on it.
This new year starts on a Sunday, how handy for keeping track of weekly goals!

Hi Diane! I have an area of kitchen counter that is stacked deep with procrastination items and since I really want to go into the new year with a tidy kitchen, I will work on some of these things in the next few days.

Hello Ima! I will join you in having a mini-week procrastination item--I want to finish the last 3 steps of "pre-tax prep" that I've been working on--it will be great to have everything done that I can before the end of the year so that I can just wait for the 2017 forms and statements before having to continue.
That means I have to go through my loose receipts for work expenses. Ima, I remember you mentioned that you have been able to keep up with recording these things when they occur, and that will definitely be a goal for the new year--I always forget. I actually don't have that many work expenses as a dog walker, but the few I have I want to deduct. The last 2 steps are to rewrite a final, good copy of the income and expense lists for my permanent records--I can't do that until 12/31 since I will have at least one more payment to deposit by then.

Diane, I just set up a simple excel spreadsheet. Since my accountant insisted I use my debit card to buy gas instead of cash I need to enter it in my checkbook. I balance my checkbook once a week and remove whatever receipts from my wallet, throw the misc. ones away, enter the deductible ones into the spreadsheet and throw the receipts into a file folder. I bought gas yesterday and will buy some feed tomorrow. Those two things are the only things left to enter into the 2016 expense spreadsheet. This is a first for me. I've put that off until the week before tax day for years and it's way easier to do it a little at a time and it also reminds me just how much I have in the bank so I don't overdraw and get hit with a bunch of fees that once started seem never ending.
I spent 15 minutes on that horrible section of kitchen counter this morning and it is vastly better but not quite where I want it. I'll do 15 more minutes tomorrow and that should do it. One thing I can't find a home for is some plant food in a ziplock bag. A neighbor gave it to me and it's really good stuff, so I don't want to discard it. I need a solution for that.

Okay! I have decided on this week's procrastinated project--finishing the last of my bedroom closet VHS tape cleanout. In the fall I was going through the tapes a handful at a time, and throwing most of them out. I got almost down to the shelf that's at floor level, and since there is a little cabinet thingy in the closet in front of the shelves that held the tapes, I couldn't get to the right hand side on the bottom 2 shelves. What I need to do is move out the little cabinet and the extra pillows and comforter that are on top of it, reach the last of the tapes to throw out, wipe down the shelves, and then move some keeper books from my 2nd bedroom to those tape shelves that are now empty.
Tomorrow I will be home all day except for one dog walk in the late afternoon, so I will work on this project tomorrow. I was going to choose a much smaller item for this first week, but since I'm cleaning out the 2nd BR for the 2-month challenge and could really use the space that will free up by moving those books, I want to finish the long-delayed VHS purge. Now--I have to make sure I'm not sidetracked by other things tomorrow.

15 minutes later the scarf is done! I can't imagine why I put this off. Next up: the key rings. Edit: 20 minutes later I had another scarf that needed the same treatment, so I finished it too while I had the sewing supplies out. When I finished I actually put the sewing supplies away.

Good work on the scarves, ima. I am starting work on my project right now.
I can't imagine why I put this off.
Yeah, if we could figure this out we would be so much better off. What imaginary problems are we creating to make some of these little jobs seem so hard to us?

Finished! Mine didn't take as long as I thought it would either. I threw out the remaining tapes plus some other miscellaenous stuff so that the closet looks much better now, plus I still have one small shelf free in there for a future need.

After a cut of coffee and a short nap, I finished 4 key rings. Since it's snowing and db is feeding for me today I think I will sew on some purses I've had cut out for months.

I went ahead and wrapped the scarves and key rings in tissue and put them in the remaining Christmas gift bags. Now they are ready to grab whenever I go out the door. That may be a few days with this snow.

You did good on that project, ima!
My procrastinated item for this week is cleaning up the bird cage that I set aside when I put the two parakeets together in the same cage. I didn't want to put it away right away in case things didn't work out, but the birds have been together for quite some time now and everything's fine, so it's was time to clean the cage and move it. It's cleaned, not yet back in my basement storage unit, but it's in the kitchen waiting to go down today, so I'm counting it done.

Today I'm cutting quilt pieces for a project that I put aside months ago. It really makes my back hurt, so I'm doing it in steps. I needed 48 strips when I started and so far I've cut 12, so three more sessions should do it.
I think I'm ready to go back to it.
