cleanbeeI caught up on all except the pots very late last night. I washed one of those, but will need want to attend to the pots before I can make dinner tonight. The things washed fitted in a dishdrainer, with saucepan and cutlery drainer 'on the other side'. So there wasn't really that many. Though I was out of bowls used for cereal and main meal quite often.

Have been keeping my dishes taken care of quite well recently.
But -----
It helps that I live alone
And That I have not been feeling so well, so my "cooking" has been quite simple and basic.
(Hot tea, oatmeal, soups, frozen food and yams and veggies cooked in the microwave, etc.)
But at least the cup, bowls and utensils are kept up. I wash and usually dry and put away - after each meal.

Almost all my dishes are done. Everything I had piled up in a dishtub for a few days was washed. The only things left are two pots that were on top of the stove, their lids, and some utensils. I will be doing them today. Will also put back a bunch of glassware, mugs, dishes, etc., that I had taken out of my cabinet a while back, when I was dealing with a leak and wondered if it was behind the wall. I was afraid that the cabinet might fall down, but the leak was fixed and it was just a valve that needed tightening - so the stability of the cabinet is fine. I hadn't wanted to put it all back because I was freaking out about seeing a cockroach in my kitchen, but I've cleaned my kitchen pretty thoroughly and it is time to get them off my dining table and back where they belong. Going around the corner on an errand in a few minutes, will wash my pots and utensils when I return.

cleanbee - You can do it My heaps were 4 days worth of dishes and plates, and when I needed to add a pantry shelf of goods/containers with goop on their bottoms to a 'safe' place, I was so wishing I had the space where the waiting dirty dishes and pots were. Made some progress and the keepers for now are away. Maybe I could have tossed more. I did toss some things though.

Hi everyone. I hope you don't mind if I jump into this thread for a while. I have a chronic dishwashing problem but have them all done at the moment so feel like it's a good time to start trying to change my habits and not let them mount up again. I looked at this thread about a week ago and it inspired my catch up. I used the suggested 10 minutes at a time approach and it worked well for me. I did not feel like posting when I was far behind but now I would like to join in to keep things up to date if that's ok with everyone. I have not read back over the whole thread but have read a few pages here and there. wynken I wanted to say that I liked the fact that you mentioned singing a happy song as you do the dishes. I used to sing a silly made up song when I was changing dirty nappies and it made the process much more fun for me and my children. So I have taken this on and started making up some dishes songs for myself and singing in the kitchen. I don't always remember to do it, but when I do, it helps. Tonight my children ate at my sister's house so I only have a couple of things to wash but I am going to do them. I read Minerva 's post about not having many dishes so only doing them a couple of times a week and I think that's great because I don't have the discipline to do that. I think part of my trouble with dishes is that I came from a family of 9 (7 children) so the dishes had to be done after every meal and there were lots of people to help do them, a roster etc. As an adult I lived on my own for many years, and now it is only me and my two young sons. Somehow the dishes we create don't look like a mess to me at first, so I think that they don't need to be done and I leave them. Then somehow they mount up and another day, when there are enough that they need to be done, I don't have time and I'm in a hurry and they mount up even more and become overwhelming. So I go from too few to worry about, to too many to face, very quickly and I have decided that the only answer is to make sure they get done at least once a day no matter how few or how many there are. So that's my plan at the moment. Thanks for inspiring me, reminding me to sing, and helping me to get through my backlog of dishes over the last week.

Hi Wynken Yesterday morning I washed dishes after brunch, then in the afternoon started washing the kerosene lamps, pitcher, cake stand, etc. sitting on top of the fridge to pack away temporarily for construction and kept on with various decorative bowls, etc. At least when everything is done and I start putting it back it will be clean.

haywirehousekeeper - Congratulations on getting caught up. please don't think you need to be 'caught up' to post here. I often need the support of here and chat in chatzy to getumdun, or started, or cleared enough to make a start if I've been out of sorts with them. or if its a process that needs several innings that day to get um done. I'm on my own too, and its like you say here too. But I know daily is better. I grew up in a family of 6 and clearing the table to dogs fed and all things away and finished was a process that had cooperation of all.. I need the cooperation with myself. imamess and cleanbee. I need to haul some of those been waiting a while things into the lineup too Ima. I knew you could do it Cleanbee.
