Last year, PaperGrace started this thread. Don't know if anyone else wants to do this... but here it is!
The goal: to get 2017 items out of our homes by the end of 2017 The method: that is up to you!
You might imagine that 2017 things is a huge number and that only those with the worst hoards could manage it, but I've got a secret for you:
Average people who don't have squalor or behavior recognized as hoarding have enough extra stuff in their homes to do this challenge too. Lots of people have "clutter" even if they do find room for all of it in their homes.
You might also imagine that 2017 things is way, way too many to handle or count, but let's do the math: 2017 divided by 365 days = 5.5 (2602739726)repeating} FIVE AND A HALF THINGS A DAY! That's it! Five things one day, six things the next!
Past participants have counted every little thing or by the bag or not at all.
Some of us count papers by the sheet or inch or bundle etc...
We've counted trash, donations, regifts, and the release of old habits, pounds lost, even people!
Jump in when and how you like, or just drop in to cheer us on.
Everything we get rid of is a great accomplishment, even if we miss the mark. Won't you join us? You really can't lose!

I'm in! My new year's goal is to get one or two items out every day, so I may not reach 2017, but we'll see how the year progresses. Maybe I'll surprise myself. I'm hoping for lots of company.
Out (or heading out) so far:
8 hole-y or lonely socks 1 very old pair of pantyhose 3 books 1 garden stake 1 windshield cover 2 dog sweaters that are too big for Prissy 1 fleece pullover that is too small for me
17 TOTAL

Thank you Cando! My first item: I found it vacuuming out the closet with the air conditioner unit located in the hall. It was the old wall thermostat for our old unit. Start the ticker for me at 1.

Went thru a big pile of papers that was on top of the Dining Room Table. - 14 papers put in trash, 1 magnet & piece of plastic put in trash, 54 papers put in recycle bag.
Den Tossed glass that has been sitting on the glass Lamp Table in the den for at least a week. I just noticed it about a week, ago, but knew it was probably DH's so kept thinking he would deal with it. Well, he didn't. And, honestly, I don't know how long the glass had been sitting there with a paper napkin in it. It could have been months & I never noticed. Well, I removed it from the den today & set it on the sink counter. Then, when I was doing dishes, I set it in the sink to wash it & noticed there was mold growing in the bottom of it. I decided to just toss it!!! Yuck!!! Tossed napkin, too. Front bathroom. Tossed opened box of Mucinex DM that expired in April 2015. This was in the closet.
Tossed pair of my holey socks -- I really liked that pair... I've had them for many, many years.

I'll make a separate total.
