winken....I feel stuck for some of the reasons listed on gifted's thread. and conflicted. rudimentary house problems with no quick fix. a yard too big for me to manage I have never managed this house well in my 32 years here.
Yes, sticking to the Keep or Move options today is one of those days I hit overwhelm... no matter how much prep work I do it is not enough. I TRY to imagine I am one of the Hoarder show people, forced to have it all dumped in the front yard, and that keeps me looking at one small area and trying to let go, remembering I am still in control.
1.yard too big, 2. no quick fix, 3. stuck and conflicted
the problem with FIXING something is you never SEE it once it's done...it is expected to be that way so we discount all the cost and work. Had a new lady move in down the street... when I mentioned being here 15 years (at that point) she just said " and you're STILL not done?"
The sun is shining, I am trying to pick a corner and just dig in outside, and feels like I am spinning and will never ever be done. I think it is the OCD part of my brain, which used be be so organized and efficient...now straining to do what I can no longer do... yet I took on TOO MUCH.
I can list 700 projects to be addressed, none of them 'vanity' or decorative'..and wind up just crying and going back to bed ( I did this for a year in 2008) , or sticking my nose in a scifi book and going into deep space for 4 hours.
I must appreciate the GOOD things I have, but just mentally can't get there today.

Just stopping by to give you a few hugs Halfway2Hoarder. I always like to think of that saying, "the best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago - the second best time is today." As much as we all want to - we can't turn back the clock. One poster here has on her avatar - "don't look back - you aren't going there". I love that. My dear aunt who lived to be a few days shy of her 99th would always answer if you asked her how she was, "I woke up so it is a good day". Putting her feet on the floor and eating breakfast was a "bonus" good day. You obviously enjoy your home and the freedoms it has provided you with your art. Don't let all the worries and plans rob you of your enjoyment today. My DM lives in a very rural (non uber) place too. It is possible to carve out a life for yourself into your 90s.
There is a reason almost all "programs" for recovery have the "one day at a time" clause. Just for today - make a little dent. And, tomorrow make another one and pretty soon like Unswampy's square feet project - it will grow and grow until you are one third of the way done. That is all we can do - " we woke up and it is a good day!" PC

Phoenixcat..thanks! I AM making a dent today... my energy was so low, and my spirits too! Finally got the old old shabby wingback fixed up with salvaged ornate upholstery covers, and posted a pic of it.
If a NORMAL ,clean home person saw this chair they'd think I accept garbage to live in, but I just don't see the flaws, love the shape of this comfy chair, and don't even worry over getting it recovered. (if I did spend $500 to upholster the cats would ruin it anyway in 3 years!)
Sometimes it is WORTH recovering a good quality chair (this has fancy carved wooden feet..the couch I got in 1998 behind it has "bun feet" that are PLASTIC as I discovered when it got delivered..modern crap is low quality...so I love the old stuff like this.
I won't recover it myself, no way, done with that type detail work...
