Anyone? Can I even estimate? Maybe I have less than 5 of those big wheelie bins the city gives out.

Good question.. I'm not sure I dare answer the question for myself.

After three years of digging out, I'm reluctant to answer, too. I thought I would be finished by now.
However, I can say I am at the stage of selling the good and useful things that I no longer have use for. Shoes, clothes, my old car. Baby furniture -- my DD is nine, so really, this is long overdue.

Musing on the nature of finished.... fashions will change, our shape too,, our tastes in decoration will evolve, stuff will wear out, things will need recycling, families will grow up, we'll move, . .. the big purges and spring cleans feel good when big chunks are completed,,,but I think for myself the point of "satisfaction " will be when a routine is established that prevents NEW disorder and chaos emerging. I don't think I can truly use the word finished, ... Others might have a firm idea of finished for their circumstances though.

I joined SOS nearly 4 years ago. Time flys.I have really made progress in this time. I seem to have more of a plan and a much better understanding of what needs to be done and how to start towards the goal. I have trouble finishing tasks. Often doing 50-75% of something.

Very much the same oust there is tonnes of enthusiasm at the beginning of projects, but boredom hits, and then I want to escape from it and find something new

Oops ... realised this question is opening a huge can of worms for me this evening.. I thought i would make a start on the next category of electrical odds n ends. I'm currently looking in disbelief at the box of assorted chargers and power packs, about 25 items in total. From that category I have relinquished ONE power lead, after checking and double checking it did not work. It's bedtime so i'll leave it for now. I'm realising again that it's not only about the Quantity of stuff, it's that seeing a potential future use for all things that is keeping me from being "done" ...... But stopping the thinking pattern seems very far out of sight, ..... why ? Maybe growing up with parents who would never waste resources. Maybe I just have squirrel type genes? Maybe a fearful nature that sees disaster and shortage looming at every turn? Maybe lack of practice ? ..... ..... I know I WON'T be done till my thinking changes, but there is a huge part of my brain telling me that it is sensible and prudent to keep all this collection of electrical, and that I would be an idiot to throw away this stuff, esp as I do have a habit of wearing out charger cables, it would seem silly to have to rebuy them, if I could simply use ones from my spares. Quite a way from done 😞 . Oh well i'll sleep on it and maybe tomorrow will bring some decisiveness.

Yes. For me contemporary minimalism.
Will I ever get there, give it another few years but I will get there.

admire your goal oust, are you using a particular method, ? The minimalist seem to use the Konmarie method a lot, it focuses on finding those things that you really like, anything else is let go of. Why keep what you don't like? ,,, yes I know that makes it sound ridiculously simple..

I don't use anyone's method. I take this and that from here,u tube and google. I am not able too stick to methods for long. I do what I can before I move on. I do seem to be going back to it more often now than a few years ago. How about you ?

oust that is great if you only have about five wheelie bins left to do! I still pulling away too and have much more than that to get rid of. Ive been asking how much longer it will take too. One thing ive learned for myself in this process, is that setting a deadline or trying to make a rigid schedule, will trigger my demand resistance and set me back. So ive come to accept i will be done when im done. Im hoping that i will be able to recognize that when it does happen. So ive been thinking of criteria for when i can consider the dehoarding part done and i can move into maintenace. I think for each of us, its personal, we each have to decide what level we aspire to. I admire your goal of minimalism. I know for myself, that is not something i will likely get too. My ideal is more than minimalism, less than cluttered.
Something i just thought about. Years ago, i entered an art show that was specifically for non professional artists. The group running it had several criteria. I didnt think i fit any of the criteria, i didnt make a living from my art, i didnt have a college degree in art and i considered myself a beginner. I got into an agrument with a few friends (all professional artists) because they told me they were happy i won a small award but that i really didnt belong in the show. They considered my work to be professional quality. I didnt see that myself. Im writing about this because i wonder, just as i couldnt see my growth as an artist because i was too close to it, will i not be able to see when ive reached my goal with the house? Oust, i wonder if yoy are having that uncerrtainity too.

I thought I was close to done until I started the kitchen remodel. OMG!!! How much can one person stuff into a very small amount of kitchen cabinets? More than I ever thought possible. It has been a wake up for me.

My town doesn't have a limit on how much garbage you can put out. I have two plastic garbage cans The truck will even take furniture as long as it fits and isn';t too heavy. They have taken large wood bookcases but not a convertible sofa-bed. They told me it was just too heavy (due to metal bed frame inside). For that, I had to call a private carter and pay, I think it was $75.
