I've known this type "natural" recipe for a while, we used to make it with a different ingredient, so I tested THIS recipe, and it WORKS mostly on crabgrass and thinner weeds.. 1 GAL white vinegar- cheapest you can find 2 CUPS epsom salts..also cheap at most drugstores 1/4 Cup DAWN (original in blue bottle) dish soap Spray pump bottle, or those larger garden tanks you make a vacuum with for larger areas. I used some other cheapo brand..liquid dish soap has "surfactants" holding the water molecules together which is possibly the needed ingredient. I am going to buy a little Dawn brand bottle and also test that in CASE there is some miracle with it!! Spray on weeds after morning dew burns off ( but I did at 4pm) and by next day weeds are withering. does not kill to the root. I've used straight vinegar without the other stuff. It works fine for a few months. As you said, it doesn't kill the roots, so whatever you are spraying will have to have a second dose mid summer.
