Now it's time for supper and then I can read and organize for tomorrow.
Tomorrow will be a stay home day thank goodness!

Hi Chris, I hope you get your stay-at-home day tomorrow. I'm home from my 2 walks, and I've had dinner. Tomorrow is a very busy day so I'll need to get to bed at a good time. It was just confirmed that one of the 4 condo board members is moving out of state in 2 weeks. That leaves 3 of us, one of whom hasn't been to a meeting or done any work for the board in 6 months. So...that leaves me and the treasurer, and the treasurer has a demanding full time job so doesn't have time to do anything except the financial work. So that leaves...me, to do everything else. For the next 2 months. Clean up from dinner Give everyone fresh water Restock drinks in fridge Scoop litter pans Diane

oh Diane - that doesn't sound good. Can you bring forward the selection process for new board members?
I have made a start today, with dishes and a short walk. Now I am cooking up some food in the fridge while it is still good.

Jendela, technically, we should appoint a new board member to replace the one who's leaving--but no one wants to be on the board!

Diane, does that mean there will be a new occupant to replace the person who is shifting interstate? If so, I will keep my fingers crossed that they will be civic minded and prepared to help out. What happens if no one is prepared to act as a board member?
My day is frittering away - I think because I found out that another neighbor is selling their home at the end of this month - and this will increase the rate of 'gentrification' in our suburb. So, I am feeling a bit homesick for the street as it used to be.....

Diane,
I don't envy you dealing with all those neighbours. I live in a dual occupancy with a common driveway which is owned by both myself and the owner of the house behind. So only one neighbour to deal with and it is still an ordeal. The man who is renting the unit behind me is always pleasant when I speak to him, but he uses the driveway that runs past my house to his house as though it is part of the property he rents and not common property and so he parks there, keeps plants and gardening equipment there, works on his car there etc and all of this is outside my kitchen window, about 30 cm from my weatherboard house.
Not only can I hear him but he blocks access to my back gate. He has a car space on his property but he fenced this off, and parks and does all of the above in the driveway that runs beside my house instead. I spoke to him about it when he fenced off his car space and let him know politely that I need the driveway to be kept clear as it is common property and provides access to my rear gate as well as to his driveway, and he was very civil but has gradually taken over the driveway more and more. That was about a year ago and I have been worrying about it and trying to be flexible about it ever since but it has just got worse and worse.
So about 10 minutes ago he was vacuuming his car right outside my kitchen window and I just went out and spoke to him again. He was polite, listened, and said ok, he won't park there any more but he was not apologetic and he has not moved his car and is still out there so I don't know whether he will do anything about it. I explained that I need access to the back gate and he just kept saying ok but didn't really acknowledge that it is a real issue for me, so I'll have to wait and see what he does.
I think I'll wait a couple of days and then follow up with a letter just confirming what we discussed, and then if that doesn't help, I might have to speak to the owner of his property but I'm reluctant to do that if I can avoid it. I own my property (me and the bank) and I know the owner of the rear property but we don't have much to do with each other and I don't really know what his attitude would be.
Feeling very stressed about it. It's not easy for me to approach this man and speak to him about it but I wanted to be up front with him, not go behind his back to his landlord or agent. At least I'm glad I've finally done something about it but not sure how it will turn out.
So that is one of the things I've been avoiding doing that I've finally tackled. My day hasn't gone as planned but I have done a few things that needed doing including:
Finally called my psychiatrist and made an appointment, it was very easy and hard to know why I have avoided it. Contacted my nephew about fixing the front door and he said he will come tomorrow - We'll see if that happens.... I did the supermarket shopping Filled in about 10 pages of paperwork for the school, the after school care program, etc. Having a child with severe allergies involves a lot of paperwork Did the supermarket shopping Bought a new telephone/answering machine which is desperately needed and long overdue Bought some clothing items for my boys who have a dress up day at school tomorrow
Still have dishes and washing to do

Good morning folks! I slept later than usual, which is okay because I'm not anticipating getting any work done today except maintaining--busy day. Jendela, the family that's leaving said they weren't sure if they were going to sell their apartment or try to rent it out. If they rent it, that'll be bad for the building because we already have several non-resident owners, that's why we have no one to be on the board or do the work. If they try to sell, they'll probably put it on the market for a few months and THEN try to rent, because they made some comments about not wanting to sell if the price isn't right. Well, I happen to know they spent over market price on that apartment, and they will NOT get what they're hoping for. Even if they end up selling and take a loss, it will be several months before anyone else moves in. The wife and kids are staying here beyond the 2 weeks while the husband goes and starts a new job and looks for housing for them there. So I think things will move slowly. Haywire, the kind of situation you describe is common--I'm pretty sure you'll have to either contact the owner, or else call the police to tow his car one time. That, of course, will make him an enemy, so I know you don't look forward to doing that. Hopefully the owner will be responsive--and I hope whatever lease the person has shows that the driveway is for passage only. Wouldn't it be nice if everyone could just be considerate?? Scoop litter pans Make beds Pigeon care Eat breakfast Diane

Oh, and as far as what happens if no one agrees to be on the board--by law, what you're supposed to do is dissolve the condominium association, sell the building, and divide the money between the owners! I'm pretty sure that never (or almost never) actually happens, so I'm not sure how it's handled in practice. I think the next step would be having board members in name only, who don't actually do anything, and hiring a manager for the building. Assessments would have to go WAY up to pay for this. Our building is way too small to have a regular management company step in--they are for very large buildings and they are very expensive.
So, my suggestion, if no one wants to be on the board, is to have a small assessment increase when that becomes necessary (which would probably be before the end of the year) and then hire out the individual jobs that we are supposed to be doing. That will be cheaper than a management association, but will take some work away from the board. Of course, someone still has to hire people and make sure the work is done, but it could work. We'll see what happens--there have been 2 people complaining that repairs aren't done quickly enough, so they may want to go on the board. (Although they have both been on the board before and vowed never to be on again.) And there's one new person who moved in a little over a year ago--she may be willing.

I hope the board situation works out for you, Diane.
Haywire, the driveway problem sounds like a pain. I hope it gets resolved soon with minimal issues.
My back is doing a bit better today. It's not 100%, but it's better than nothing. The good news is, I have G to help me with some of the bendy tasks. He stands to earn a whopping $0.50. He's been earning that a lot lately. I kind of feel bad that T doesn't have as much opportunity to earn. But, when I offer him the opportunity, he declines. They only earn money if they help me with a job that's not one of their assigned chores. So, things like helping me unload/load the dishwasher, cleaning in the bathrooms, dusting, etc.
Done: Showered Dressed to socks Updated inventory and shopping list
Next up: Dishes to dw - I forgot to put last night's dinner dishes in the dw Clean off surfaces Wipe down surfaces Sweep kitchen floor

Went to bed early last night and I am feeling much better today! Last night I heated up leftover soup for dinner. I put the dishes in the dishwasher and washed a few items that had been accumulating in the sink. Today I tossed a few more papers and then deleted hundreds and hundreds (and hundreds) of emails. That felt great!!

Good morning, everyone!
I was feeling like I didn't do anything yesterday, but really, I did a lot of cooking and baking from scratch all day (I made a pie for the first time ever!), which involved a lot of washing dishes. Also did the meal planning for the week, grocery list and shopping, schooled the kids, etc and so on, so I really was busy. I only have 2 pots left to wash, which are soaking.
next: dishes, wipe cabinets, laundry, wipe counters, sweeping, refill vinegar squirt bottle, delegate some spring cleaning chores to the kids.
