I live in Pensacola, Florida where they allow you to pile up bulky items that won't fit in the waste receptacles. This service is free and available each time they come out on trash day. I would encourage everyone to call or visit the website of your local trash service. It pays to know the ins and outs. Booya! Attachment Deleted

ha def6 - your post brings back memories! we used to call it "big trash day." i furnished my entire first apartment with "bulky trash." the very rich, upscale town right across the street (we grew up on the border of the next town over) was full of things like room sized hand-hooked rugs with one small stain (just cover it with a piece of furniture! duh!), mahogany/leather tables with gold leaf and one little scratch - or things they just got tired of, in perfect condition; you get the idea. that was the most opulently furnished apartment i ever had. after that, it devolved to milk crates, cinderblocks and boards for shelving, and anything i could scrounge - since i had no money. i'm sure this contributed to the hoarding; everything seemed such a treasure, and a waste. now it's even more of a throwaway society with all the cheap plastic. that didn't exist when i was a kid. i miss the days of things of quality. now, even though i'm poor, there are so many people much poorer - and on an island, where you can't just run to a big box store. when i put something out curbside (which i do often in nicer weather), it almost all gets carried away by someone. furniture, unless smashed to bits, goes. people still fix things here. it took years, however, to stop taking people's things they wanted to give me, when i realized that they didn't want to pay for dumping it. once people know you hoard or struggle with it, they try to foist off all manner of junk onto you

Hello creativechaos it never ceases to amaze me what folks will take from my trash pile. We have metal recyclers that live close and they are experts at breaking items down to resell. One time a put a bike out there , and they returned the tires back to my pile without the metal spokes. I use to be too shy to put my junk out there for all the world to see, but now I have no problem. I think I hear the boom truck now.

Well the boom truck picked up all the stuff except one small tire. I think the bulk recycle truck comes for that. I really need to keep going with getting stuff to the road. We have a burn pile ( yes we live in the county) that has grown to mammoth proportions. It has been stacked... I don't know how many years now maybe 5. No fire has happened. I would have to notify the authorities and get their permission in order to burn all that. I think I will try to get most of that to the road.

My burn pile consists of mostly tree branches. It has gotten so big that it has become a wildlife habitat & refuge.

Here, you can call and request large item pick up twice a year, but the regular trash pick up is generous in what they take. The landlady likes to have a bonfire at least once a year. It becomes a festive occasion with guests and roasted hot dogs and s'mores. All our lawn debris gets piled.

Hello DiAll of these services make it so much easier to dispose of unwanted, broken, stained items that you can't donate. My neighbor does not hesitate. She will put the stuff right out there, even if it has to sit there for a week. She will trim some hedges and stack it all neatly right there in the front. Then it belongs to somebody else to take care of. I'm learning. Our burn pile has a combination of lumber and yard waste. Way too much to burn in one evening. I think I will reduce the stacks and then burn it when we don't have a burn band in effect. We also have a burn barrel we could use. It is nice to have a fire once in a while to put gathered yard debris in. The yard looks nice in no time.
