well.. the good news is fat when we are older is actually more protective... and you would rather have a psychotic episode and harm yourself or others rather than weight gain? we can't have it all if we need help and it IS being given, if we are being treated and acting in collaboration, asking why on things is part of keeping the MDS on their toes. and "we" must also be concerned as well as "they" about our own body. I've worked very hard to lose 30lbs..and more to go, what goes into my mouth is my responsibility...if the meds for other critical issues do help then I must decide which is more important. we need to check blood sugar if obese too...a cheap Walmart tool is $19. RELION brand..and I check mine as when I eat more carb foods it rises too far. millions of us are already pre-diabetic...if 30% of all Americans are morbidly obese- over 40 BMI, and 40% are plain overweight >25-30%. so 70+% of an entire adult nation needs to be losing weight www.bmi-calculator.netBP is easily treated --but silent of course- Ultimately we are responsible to know general medical info, that overweight typically means higher BP...most drugstores will have a free BP cuff machine. the web is usually very helpful I learned by accident the my ACE BP med was causing a horrid cough..we switched meds and now it stopped... but I never connected the cough to the meds... I complained, asked questions, the VA is simply short on rural MDS to listen, I just hate the fact this means another surgery... the VA will provide a $80,000+ surgery at Medicare cost of $1500. for just the hospital room stay... just like it was $100,000 to do the emergency operation, a medical jet they paid for at $30,000, ambulances, and 3 week stay with private room, and all meds, to save my life in 2011.
