...as I am supposed to be decorating. I am so good at procrastination, this is just one of my problems. I live in the uk i have bipolar, social phobia (hence no visitors,so why bother) and arthritis. I will need a knee replacement, and my hands are so painful. Sometimes I gave problems holding a knife and fork, but these I use as excuses. I have a really wonderful husband, who truly is amazing. But we live in, what I refer as, a slum. we really need to decorate throughout, new bathroom, new kitchen and most urgent a new boiler and hot water system but.. the house is such a mess I can't let anyone in. So so I have come here for support. the hall stairs and landing will be easy once decorated I will just keep it as it looks when we finish I really hope I can support others as soon as I start this process thanks for listening now coffee or decorate

Hello aaleigha and welcome! I am sorry for the problems you are facing, but you are amongst net friends here! People in this forum are supportive and fun to be around, so you are in the right place to get support and motivation! I wish you the best in your decorative plans! I also love decoration and I am well aware that when we are feeling low the last thing that we may be interested in is decoration, so way to go on getting your hands in decorating the space you live in!

Hi and welcome Aaleigha. It sounds like you have a lot of upcoming plans. I'm going to assume that the boiler and maybe hot water system are most urgent - do you need this for heating for the winter? There are many threads here about people needing repairs on some of their household systems, with the bottom line being that the service person doesn't care what your home looks like. He just wants to be able to do his job - have the room to work and access anything he needs. The best way to 'work' is to then break this down into really little baby steps, and work down the list. We have some great work-along threads here, or weekly or 2 month challenge threads where you post your own goals, and progress, as you like. So sorry to read about the health problems. It's good that you have a supportive husband. Maybe if you make up a list, your dh can help with the moving things around as needed, doing a bit at a time until you can be ready to call in the service person. Best wishes

thank you every one, the welcome was lovely My boiler is most urgent but it still works not as well as it should and so far its not dangerous but been told it cant be repaired if it does go wrong so in my mind when it gets a service (not till next summer) I want it out so it wont be condemned - I dont think its that bad but if it does go wrong then we are cold and down to hot water so the hall stairs and landing and decorate the kitchen (or get boiler then decorate) I am saving all we can to get this done as soon as possible
I have been devising a plan on the SHE system - it might seem dated to some but as it breaks it down into tiny steps I am sure I can do that - fly lady I turned to tears I really couldnt cope with that seems like 10 emails a day - that really affected my depression.
so first things first walk around the house I want to do that this week. Make a food plan weekly then write up the cards and set up the system lose one pound in weight hopefully around decorating I can do that by Sunday (my week will start on Monday

Welcome aaleigha! My son in law does heating and ventilation work. Believe me, as long as repairmen and workers can get to the item they need to work on, they honestly don't care and don't especially notice anything else! I've had workers in to repair things when stuff was a mess and when stuff was neat. Doesn't matter to the worker, as long as they are paid!
Just a little more info about SHE Sidetracked Home Executive, the books and system devised by sisters Pam Young and Peggy Jones. The way back ancestor of decluttering boards was hosted on the Columbian newspaper site, probably 20 to 25 years ago. Marla who became the flylady originally posted there, back when she was digging out from clutter and a disorganized home. This was way before smart phones and computers, the sisters used card files as a reminder system. I just found my old card file cleaning out the kitchen! Marla took off from there, with blessings from Pam and Peggy as they were retiring, in developing her site. And making lists! And sending reminder emails! Some people need those reminders and some people get really irritated by the mega emails, myself included.

Like joyinvirginia I'm also a fan of the SHE system from way back when - pre-Fly Lady. CEO (aka Cynthia Ewer, Organized) wrote a series of essays re starting up the SHE system, called 21 Essays to SHE. Here is a link to her website organizedhome.com/shes-organized/get-organized-with-SHEAaleigha, just a quick question/ suggestion - where is your boiler situated? If it were me, I wouldn't decorate (as in paint or put out too many items) in the pathway to get boilers in and out, in case there is any chance of hitting your wall, or needing to do extra work such as moving filled bookcases. I know they will try to be careful, but I'd hate to have to make extra work (such as repainting if they happened to hit the wall wrong etc) in order to replace it.

Thank you, will save that link to read Sunday as I have given myself an hour set by to study this system in greater depth including reading the book that should arrive tomorrow. I have made a start which is good my boiler is through the hall into the kitchen and a door on the right which is a cupboard to house it - I am sure I can tempt them through the back garden which is straight to the kitchen - just on the grounds that boiler cupboard door opens to block the hall doorway. so it is a very good idea and thank you for that - if I clean till its acceptable I can I think get away with that - and I will have a couple of months at least to sort it I have saved £3000 (GBP) and I know the type of boiler I need is only from one company at this time. Unlike the USA we here in England seemed to fall out of love with hot air heating but I really do like mine almost instant warmth - BUT I want a hotwater system without a tank that will free up space and be more economical. Thank you all very much for your very kind posts - but most of you are or where in the same situation or even worse that I am, it means so much to have that understanding. H
