Hi everyone! My name is Gev. I am so pleased to have found this site.
I am so fed up of living in filth. I live with my cat Roo, and together we want a home we want to hang out in.
I have always been a messy person. It has gotten progressively out of control as I moved out of home, moved in with a boyfriend, and now by myself. It used to be just messy, but now it is filth. Utter filth. Unhealthy and possibly getting dangerous.
It is particularly challenging because I am a super social person who would love to have people over. I also want to be able to relax in my house at the end of the day without having flies, strange smells, and piles of trash everywhere.
So hoping to keep whatever motivation I have alive by posting on here and learning from you all.
My only goal: go to sleep each night in a cleaner apartment than when I woke up. And day 1: I did!
Hugs to you all!

Check out the blog section that might be useful as you work on your house. Also there are working groups in Listzilla and weekday work along to have companions to cheer you on and help with advice

Welcome Congratulations on getting a start on cleaning your place up. You and Roo will be happier for it. There are lots of threads here to help you out. Doing something everyday is great and then defending the space that you cleaned helps to make progress. Wishing you the best on your journey to being able to make your place somewhere you can be glad to come home to.

beanyone - hello! you've listed a worthy and do-able goal, and you deserve to attain it. Plus - you've found the best group ever - so welcome! it's so nice to have someone else to clean up for that is non-judgmental, like our cats! Roo will let you know how much he/she appreciates your efforts, and there are many people here to help with everything from nuts-'n bolts practical advice, to cheerleading. Keep up the good work! And here's a word of advice: if you fall off the horse and backslide, just get right back on that horse until you learn to ride it - and we'll be cheering you on for every little thing. there is no shame in failing; not many people get it right the first time. it's hard to change habits and find out what works best for you, but anything can be done with awareness, desire, patience, and perseverence. you've begun the action steps needed to make your life and home what you want it to be.

Welcome and What a great goal to set for yourself. You will find a fantastic supportive community here. This is probably nothing we haven't heard (or done) at this point. There are a couple of great threads on how to get started (obvious trash is usually the first and easiest step). If you have questions, don't be afraid to ask, in chat, in a thread or start your own thread. My biggest question at first was, how do I get all this trash out without looking like a crazy person? I thought I was alone but it turns out I wasn't even close to alone. You are not alone and you are not your mess. You can do it!
