Tossed
2 Sample packages of creme rinse that I won't use. What's the big deal? It's symbolic. It shows my willingness to call amnesty for "good" items that I will hang onto for years but not use. It would be better if I don't take the "freebies" to begin with unless I really will use them.

Donated - Consignment
20 Clothing Items
This is different than my usual donations. First, let me say that I never donate trash. I always keep in mind that the thrift shop is planning on selling the items donated. So I always ask myself if I would buy the item at a yard sale or thrift shop. Then I consider if it would be appealing to another person. I can't really answer that. But I can make sure that the item is in good repair and has not missing parts. If the item is clothing, I verify that it is not stained, torn, faded. pilled if it's a sweater, and that it doesn't smell bad. With books, they might look OK but if there is the slightest hint of mold smell, out it goes. If the item does not meet my minimum standards, I call amnesty and recycle or toss.
Lately, in my clothes purging, I have been holding aside clothing items that are new or almost new, and a bit better than average quality. I thought I might take a shot at a clothing consignment shop. I have so much money in sunk costs for clothes. I accept that. Any money at all I can get for my better purged items is a bonus in my eyes. I read up on consignment shops thanks to the internet, so I had an idea how the process goes.
I went to a consignment shop yesterday not knowing if my items would be accepted or not. I know that if they were accepted, I have to wait until they sell to get any money. The shop owner is kind, positive, and enthusiastic. Because both the perfectionist man who is my co -worker and my partner are continually criticizing me for one thing or another, I have lost a lot of confidence. That is even for my ability to select clothing that is re-sellable. So it was a wonderful perk to hear the consignment owner tell me that my items were very nice, definitely would sell, and that she would price them and hang them up right away. She took all the items I brought to her and kept saying how good they are. She told me to check back at specified intervals to see how the sales are progressing.
On my way out the door, she called out that I have good taste! She made my day. When I told my partner what happened, he was ot impressed and mumbled something about me getting ripped off. If I make only a dollar on the whole batch I won't be unhappy. I met a kind woman who brightened my day. That is a gift. And 20 less clothing items are out of the house. I would think at least my partner would be pleased about that since he bugs me about my stuff constantly. But no, he is negative, negative.
I'm curious to see how the consignment shop will do with selling my items. I will not be disappointed regardless.
