I guess it's time to stop for lunch--I resent the fact that a whole hour was taken away from me today....

diane, you seem to get a lot done every day. is it mostly maintenance? i have this idea that if i get rid of enough maintenance tasks will mostly disappear.
i took shower and washed my own hair. finished morning dog care. i think i finished clothes
konmari says do books next but thats where i usually fail. so... maybe not.
i'd better eat so i wont be hungry at the movies later.

Hi everyone .. I leaped into action this morning and then SIL and her friend came by to have lunch with us so I'm lagging about posting but got a lot done!!!
DONE: * started laundry * cleaned bathroom top to bottom - toilet, sink, tub edge, floor, mirror .... mopped * washed dishes * cleaned off dining table (from art project) * ate lunch at dining table with SIL & friend * responded to you tube channel comments
Next is call Mom and then I need to completely set up my art stuff for this weeks creative challenge I'm participating in.
I may also livestream with the bookclub.
It helped a little to talk to SIL and her friend about the loss of our kitties ... they have known and loved all our kitties too. They have lots of memories of them as well & took care of them for 2 weeks while DH went to Vermont to see me in 2014.
I felt better after their visit. Maybe just a little bit but a little bit better is rare right now and I'm grateful.

Good afternoon everypony!
Ran out of time to post last night, but I actually opened up my new crockpot, looked up the recipe and made something! Unfortunately I did not get out of bed early enough to bring any with me. I am Really Hungry now, and need to figure something out.
I also figured out what to wear last night, but when I got dressed this morning both my pants and back up pants were way too big, so had to scramble. Therefor late for my meeting this morning, but I made it!
Had a good convo with sponsor about my schedule. *sigh* gonna try to go to bed early like a responsible adult. And limit my online play time.
Okay I am off in search of lunch...
PS. So nopony thought "Saving Daylight" was funny?

Puppybox, I don't feel like I get a lot done every day, because what I'm doing is barely holding my head above water.
It's partly that I'm still sloppy, so that I leave things out and don't pick up after myself. I'm much better than I used to be though, so that's probably the least of it.
It's partly because of my apartment being in such bad shape--almost nothing works here, especially plumbing. So for example, my kitchen sink faucet doesn't work--so to wash dishes I have to fill up the dishpan with water from the bathroom, then be careful not to slop water into the sink (because the drain is currently clogged) and then carry the dishes back to the bathroom to rinse them, then empty the dishpan into the toilet. That's why I let the dishes pile up, because it's not easy to wash them.
My shower doesn't work, so I have to wash my hair and myself with containers of warm water (which take a really long time to fill up from the tub faucet because of rust in the pipes).
The dryer doesn't heat, so when I do laundry I run clothes through the cold dryer to take most of the cat hair off, then I have to hang everything to dry. The stove doesn't work so all cooking has to be done in the microwave or my little toaster oven, which doesn't work all that well either. My kitchen has no built in cabinets, so the only storage is a small standing cabinet that just holds daily dishes and cooking items. Because the kitchen is small and has the dryer in it, there is no counter space--and when I say no counters, I mean NO counters. I have to use the top of the stove or the top of the dryer, neither of which works well. I have a small DR table, which I sometimes use to prep food, but then the things I'm chopping fly all over and have to be cleaned up.
And finally, my animals are time consuming. The birds are messy (all birds are messy, it's just their nature). There are feathers and dander and seed to clean up, and as soon as you clean it up, there's more. The cats are old and one has a gastrointestinal condition (unpecified) that requires him to eat small amounts every few hours, including now once during the night. The other is now old and picky also and has to be fed at the same time since I can't just feed one of them--so I feel like I'm washing cat food dishes all day long. Cats mean cat hair and litter dust. And vomit, frequently on the bed, which means doing more laundry, which means more sheets and blankets hanging on stuff in the DR since I don't have a working dryer.
Now--I don't mind anything to do with the animals, because I wouldn't want to live without animals, no matter how clean or perfect a house was. It's no compensation for not having animals. But I do often wonder what it would be like to have a normal, working kitchen with counters and storage space and a working sink.
All of the things that don't work are overwhelming, and I still have a small amount of savings that I could use to repair one or two items in the apartment. However, my fridge, which still works, is 21 years old and making weird noises and leaking, so I know that will have to be an expense soon. And the plumbing in this old building is always fragile and every single person who has had plumbing repair work done runs into additional problems that involve opening walls and getting the building involved in paying part of it, which is a nightmare to me. Plus I now have the issue of birds, I would worry with any kind of work done here because birds have very fragile lungs and can die instantly if they encounter a dangerous chemical, which could be something as simple as an adhesive or paint. So besides the financial issues, I also have the practical issue of how to deal with work being done here.
And that's a very long post explaining why I feel like many of the things I do every day doesn't really make things better, they just keep me from spiraling down into worse squalor. And the older I get the more aches and pains I have so the harder it is to do the daily minimums--which doesn't start to deal with the major cleaning that I should be doing. Or the rest of the decluttering, which I've made huge progress on but still have more to go.
I've been working fewer hours since my sister got sick, which is mostly because I feel the need to have fewer obligations in case I have to go down to visit her suddenly, but to be honest, is a relief--because I've been too achy lately to do the walks for people who live farther away. My sister does understand what I'm doing and offered me some money to make up for the lost work, and she did get some life insurance from my BILs death--but it wasn't that much and she will probably need it. I might have to take advantage of her offer if this goes on for a long time, though. Although I have to say, I'm loving having more time at home. I just need to translate that into more progress, and more decluttering, because having too much stuff here really does make it harder to clean.
I will now look around to see what obvious PEEPing has to be done. I have a 5:30 walk but that means there are still 3 hours that I can use.

Chris, it looks like you did a lot of housework today, are you feeling better?
Scholar, I don't usually follow links here, just my nervousness about computer stuff. So I didn't look at that clip.
Puppy, I realized that even though I wrote a huge post I didn't actually address what you said--yes, if you get rid of a lot of stuff, cleaning will be much, much easier. However, the maintenance stuff will still need to be done. In fact, I found that the less crowded my place got over time, the more picky I was about how clean things were. I noticed dirt and hair more, because there was more open space. But that's a good thing--it doesn't mean the dirt and hair wasn't there all along, my eyes were just not attuned to it because there was such chaos everywhere. I LOVE having more open space, it makes me feel so good. I did start doing more cleaning once space opened up. And I hope to do yet more cleaning, but as I've been saying, I can tell there's still a bit too much stuff to make it as easy as possible.
So yes, keep getting rid of stuff! It doesn't eliminate the daily chores, but it does make them so much easier.

Hi lennon!
I stopped for a reading break and kept going for far too long because I was near the end of the book and I wanted to know what happened--it was very good.
Now it's time to get ready for my walk, be back later!

Wow diane I did not know all the challenges you face
You might be doing this but paper plates? To reduce dishes? I recall that my friend had some kind of hose that she attached to her tub faucet to form a makeshift shower as she only had a tub. Also I was thinking that you could buy a bunch of old sheets from the thrift store to cover the top of your bed and protect from cat vomit and then even discard the old sheet to reduce your laundry dryer situation?
I have been super non productive today. Emptied a trash can. Got dressed and went to church w dd
I had a big list of chores but I unplanned went to a community event. Walked a lot. Took sbout three hours. Then st home I nearly fell asleep
So here is what I must do. In one hour I leave to pick up dd I hope to have done this: Start load of laundry Empty trash cans Clean litter Do a clean up of dr table round one Take trash and recycling to curb Do the dishes Vac lr rug
Ok off to do that!

diane thank you so much for taking the time to explain your situation to me. it sounds very tiring indeed. If i win the lottery i will give you a bunch of money for being such a good animal person. (i dont actually buy tickets so its a very long shot). you deserve a functioning kitchen and decent plumbing! my plumbing is not good either but not that bad. i have the tiniest kitchen ever but my stove and oven function.
i thought the movie was boring but not horrible. but it's been a long time since i did anything with anyone so it's good i went. i ended up spending more money than i'd planned though so that's bad.
my front hall feels much nicer with less stuff in it, i noticed when i came home.
i think i will skip books. and certainly i'm not going to do papers. so collections it is. maybe i should start washing dishes. but where would i put them?
hmmmmmm must think. also, do homework.

Diane - you asked if I feel better ... I've been hurting a lot even if I sit down or lay down so I decided that doing the cleaning was better ... then about 5 pm I started hurting a lot until I was able to take more Ibuprofin so I guess I should have tackled fewer things but it is so nice to have the bathroom cleaned - it had not been completely cleaned since December when Meena went blind because putting things into the hallway confused her so badly. Plus I had the flu and all the issues. I wish you had more things working especially plumbing in your apartment Diane -- I don't know how you stay so positive and supportive of others with all the extra work you have to deal with the hard way - it's such a challenge here when the sink is stopped up - we have a fragile plumbing system but it currently drains slowly but it drains. The cat care and clean up is a real issue I know. I wouldn't know what to do without a kitty ... these losses recently have made me say I won't go thru it again after Marble ... but I can't imagine myself without a kitty to love. ****************************** DONE: * called Mom * prepped more pages in my special art book * friend called me * heated soup and ate a light supper Well, I'm ready to relax now and will be going to counseling in the morning. I hope it can be a productive session - I'm not at my best. But the appointment will get me out of the house at least.

wow, Diane, you are dealing with a lot! WTG, magda! hi lennon!
So I was not productive during my break, but I'm thinking that might not be realistic, except perhaps for errands. It might be my play time, because of the cute neighborhood I am stuck in... I've always wanted to explore it.
I did schedule some girl-time for April when a new friend and I discovered our birthdays were a day apart. I'm so happy to be making new friends and reconnecting with old ones!
I need to focus on prep for tomorrow. I need to get to bed on time. yikes, it's already 9:00pm! I was supposed to put my glowy things away an hour ago.

Magda, thank you for your suggestions--and although I hate when people give a long list of reason why things won't work, I guess I have to do the same. The problem with the tub is that there is so much rust in the hot water pipes in our building that the hot water pressure is very, very low. So, some hot water comes out of the faucet, but in a trickle. So, the shower part actually works, but only cold water comes out--there isn't enough hot water pressure to come up unless you add a lot of cold water too. My faucet is this big square piece that you can't attach a hose to. I could try to unscrew it because there's a smaller pipe under it but I'm afraid to mess with it. I can't take baths, because by the time the hot water would fill the tub, it would have become cold water. And I can't add pots of boiling water from the stove because the stove doesn't work. I do use paper plates for myself sometimes, although I feel bad every time I do for the environmental impact. But I do use them, sometimes I feel I have to. I can't use them for the cats, they aren't heavy enough and when the cats try to eat the food the plate moves and they get discouraged. Neither one of them has ever learned to put their foot on the plate to hold it still... I even tried putting a piece of masking tape on the bottom of a small paper plate and taping it to a heavy plate, but that didn't work either. And about the sheets on the bed--the vomit is usually pretty watery so if I don't find it right away it goes right through any blankets on the bed to the sheets below, so having one or two sheets on the bed wouldn't help. I could close the bedroom door but they really do like to sleep on the bed part of the day so I don't want to do that--and covering the bed with plastic would not be comfy for them. . The vomiting aspect is a lot better, shortly after my old cat got sick for the first time he would vomit every day--now it's more like once or twice a week, and it's not always on the bed, so it's not the end of the world. Although I probably should buy another sheet set. I have one newer one, but have kept my old threadbare one since I sometimes find the vomit right before going to bed--and if I didn't have a clean sheet set I'd have to sleep on top of a blanket or something until I could wash the next day. I would like a newer set so I can finally get rid of the old one. And now I feel bad for all these complaints. I always remind myself of what I DO have, and think of people who have next to nothing--like all of the people in war-torn countries who have to leave their homes with only what they can carry, and end up as refugees in places where people don't even want them to be there. Compared to that, I live in a palace and have a life of leisure! Puppybox, what kind of collections do you have? And do you have kitchen cabinets? Are they full of something other than dishes? And yes, I don't buy lottery tickets either, but am fond of fantasizing about what I would do if I won! I had dinner, then I talked to my sister, who is doing okay. Now it's time for the night time routine. Diane
