Please join in for a two-month challenge to get some projects done! They can be decluttering, maintenance, personal care, creative projects--whatever will make a difference in your life. Beginning date July 1st (or whenever you decide to join in) and end date August 31st.
Then come back frequently and report how you're doing.
Good luck everyone!

I thought about the fact that I only did well at a few of the "10" challenges I set for myself and figured, maybe I should just make a few goals instead. But then I thought, if I don't make goals and keep them in front of me I'll never accomplish anything.
So, I will have several goals again, and if I succeed at a few of them that will be good. Several are from last time.
Challenge #1: Pay attention to nutrition--at least one good meal each day that has everything I need in it.
Challenge #2: Continue to work on CDs--sell and donate, both the ones that were given to me and my own.
Challenge #3: Set up a weekly computer reminder to delete emails at least once a week, keep total number of emails in box to UNDER 400 for the entire 2 months of the challenge.
Challenge #4: Clear out enough of the plant room to buy my plant light stand. Figure out a table to put it on.
Challenge #5: Purchase bird light bulbs and lamp for bird cage.
Challenge #6: Computer: Do at least some research on what kind of new computer I will need. Delete unneeded things from current computer--Firefox bookmarks, Word documents, programs, desktop shortcuts.
Challenge #7: Stretching/balance exercises. Something I keep trying, but can never make myself get in the habit. My flexibility and balance have been alarming lately, as has my physical stamina--I am doing fewer dog walks, which was the plan, but I'm afraid the lack of activity is having a bad effect. So I will start again with a goal of just 5 minutes a day to get in the habit.
Challenge #8: URGENT -- Clothing: Sew sleeves on all new scrub shirts, buy 1 or 2 new pair of jeans and alter them. Buy new bag of socks. Check shoes to see if any need new insoles.
Challenge #9: Once a week spend some time on categories of things that I have but don't normally think about. Trying to come up with 30 significant items for the June Purge-a-thon showed me that I have reached a plateau and am considering it impossible to get rid of anything else. But I still have too many things, so I'd like to think about where I can maybe go through and reduce. Two that come to mind are my tools/hardware and my old cross stitch supplies.
Challenge #10: Come back here at least once a week (preferably on the weekend) to report even if it's that I have absolutely nothing to report.

Sounds like another good start Diane! As usual I'm traveling for part of this challenge and also have someone at my home for a week - going to make some modest goals: 1) Work at DM's - hang more stuff - make her second bedroom usable. 2) Finish my closet 3) Home office surfaces - this isn't a clean/purge - this is just dealing with stash and dash - mostly dash - the whole room is a stash at this point! 4) Work regular hours and get more cleaning/sorting/purging done at the office. 5) Work on a personal schedule along with meal planning Think it needs to be two months of baby steps repeated daily. Good luck everyone!! PC

So the early summer challenge was a flop for me. But I am going to put out an effort here. Gotta keep making those lists!! #1 - Purge items in coat closet. This has coats of course. But also old old shoes, winter items and EVERYTHING ELSE. I have lost track how many boxes or bags I have just poked in there to get out of the way while cleaning. We don't open it a lot because we have a shoe bench with cubbies in the entry way now and also a shelf that has about 8 hooks to hang coats and bags over it. This also needs purged. In my mind they are one thing. #2 - Purge J's clothes. He has a lot of clothes he has grown out. His PJ/underwear/sock drawer is OVER stuffed with PJ's .... most I bet don't fit. I only ever see him sleeping in a tee. #3 - Kitchen cupboards. So many old food items I am sure. I can't find a place to put things away most shopping days because they are full. We don't have a lot of space to begin with. But I know I can purge some. This is my list for now. I will start with these 3 projects. I am giving myself all of July to finish them. Then make new goals for August.

So my major and most immediate project is to clear my bottom lot so the well driller can get in to drill me a well. I imagine it will take me another couple weeks to finish this project as I can only work on it early in the morning a couple of days a week. I've already got some space cleared and DD is working on getting her not running vehicle out of the way and off to the mechanics.
Which will leave some metal stuff that is DSs for me to move out of the way some other metal and junk to pile up for the eventual scrap yard run the chain link and fence posts to move out of the way, some old log/fence posts that are a bit rotty but good for terracing some chain link kennel panels that need to be moved rake and run the magnets over the area to pick up nails and metal bits

I just posted that the work-along thread is slow because this is vacation time--maybe I can also blame that for the fact that I haven't come back to update? I am completely ignoring this challenge, and I know it's because I included stretching, because every time I think of working on this challenge I think about the fact that I am doing NO stretching and then my mind avoids the whole thing. There are only a couple things I'm doing well on this time--the nutrition is still okay--I have healthy days and not healthy days but I'm thinking about it every day, which is good. I'm more or less keeping up with deleting emails, I don't even think of it as a job any more, I just delete some every time I'm reading email. And, I did a LOT of work to get the plant light set up--it's great, I love it! And I did get my urgent clothing taken care of the first week of the challenge. But I think that's about it. I don't know--is this challenge too long for everyone? I know I had some great luck with this format early on, when I had a lot of stuff everywhere and needed 8 weeks to complete some decluttering jobs. But now I have short term goals, and I have "forever" goals (like the stretching) which I thought I could start with 8 weeks and form a habit so that it would become longer term. But it's not working, at least not now. Of course, summer is my miserable season, I have a lot more energy in the fall and winter. There's one week left til this challenge is over, should we keep doing this longer term format? Diane

Up to you dtesposito if you want to continue it. Maybe one more round to see if we are more motivated once we aren't in summer? I know that I usually make some progress on the long term goals and it helps me to actually put in writing some "broader" things than the dailies. 1) Work at DM's - hang more stuff - make her second bedroom usable. 2nd bedroom is mostly usable - still have a lot to hang. 2) Finish my closet 2 small areas to finish 3) Home office surfaces - this isn't a clean/purge - this is just dealing with stash and dash - mostly dash - the whole room is a stash at this point! About 50% done here. 4) Work regular hours and get more cleaning/sorting/purging done at the office. Still trying! 5) Work on a personal schedule along with meal planning Still trying! Forgot to add that I planned a big party for out of state and was gone a few weeks. PC

Thanks, you guys--since my constant advice to everyone is "keep trying" and "even baby steps help", I will make the next challenge thread! You're right phoenixcat, it is a "fall" thread, and that always makes me happy!
