Crickets are out in force this evening. It's like music out on the balcony.
Oust, the cicadas started singing here at 2:30! Normally it's in the late afternoon. I love their sound because it means fall to me.
TO DO:
Clean up from dinner Give everyone fresh water Restock water in fridge Scoop litter pans

I was up late packing, then set my alarm early to finish up before my flight, and the first thing I needed to do was figure out why I couldn't check in last night.
CAUSE ITS SUNDAY! my flight is TOMORROW! sheesh! thank goodness, I can go back to bed.

Scholar, you REALLY need a wall calendar!
Dealing with your dad’s uniform must have been difficult
Thank you magda, yes, it was. Not only because it was his, but because the WW 2 era is one of the only periods in history that I'm really interested in, I read a lot about it. So this was not only a uniform that my father wore, he wore it at a time and in the places that have a meaning for me and that I can picture. There were 4 6-month overseas bars on the jacket, that meant that he spent 2 years in Europe. I had always wished I had more information about his Army years but I was only 12 when he died so I wasn't interested then, and afterwards my mother never wanted to talk about it because it made her too upset.
What was interesting to me was how HEAVY the material was. There was a jacket and overcoat, they were made of wool, and wearing that full-length overcoat was like carrying 10 extra pounds. I did throw away the bag with the uniform on my way out to my walk yesterday.
After not having any allergies my whole life, I seem to be getting allergic to everything. Now I've been waking up and within a few minutes of getting up my sinuses start filling up and my nose starts running. Then I sneeze several times. Not every day, just sometimes--but those are classic allergy symptoms. I don't know if it's because the weather is getting cold--certain allergens outside are more common in the fall--or maybe it's dust mites.
I'm finishing up breakfast now, today's the day I have a late morning walk and a late afternoon walk, so I'll see what I can get done in between. Having an ongoing project helps me on days like this, I'm more likely to want to do work in between the walks when there's a specific project I want to get done.

Hi Everyone! Thanks for kicking off the weekend Scholar!
I am trying something a bit different that looks exactly what I have been doing for ages.
Normally I make a list of all the stuff I need to do and that is piling up on me. Sort of fighting against the tide and feeling guilty for all the stuff I don’t get done.
Now I decided anything I get done is a gift to my future self to make my life easier. So I am celebrating what gets done rather than feeling guilty over what I could not do.
I am back at PT and relearning to walk which I hope cuts back on all the pain I have been having eventually. I am also on more allergy meds and trying to watch my diet which I hope helps too.
Today - same old list but trying to be positive

Good morning TML! Sorry you've been having pain, I assume it's still related to your car accident? I hope the PT helps. And the new attitude--yes, we are the only ones that can make our lives better, so when we do something that does, we should acknowledge and celebrate it.
I only have an hour until my first walk.
TO DO:
Clean up from breakfast Put plant lights on Send work related email Water sunporch plants

Diane -congrats on dealing with the coat. I am interested in that time period too;have you ever tried to research your dad’s army time? mylittlescholar I love it when I realize I have an extra day. Enjoy Hi TML good luck with your plans So far Fed cats Put clean dishes away Washed stragglers Did a little pick up in dining room Not exactly sure what I’ll do today beyond church and basement project and laundry. I will clean bathroom. And take a walk. I have a huge credit card bill that I thought would take me years to pay off but I think I can create a better payment plan after looking at my budget yesterday. I may work on the details today.

Diane I still have all of my fathers WWII stuff. I even have his old mirror which was shined up metal that must have come in a kit. When I look in it I often think of him looking in it when he was 18 and in the service. Dad died when I was 14 but I remember his stories. I don’t think I have his uniform though the basement is like the ending scene of raiders of lost ark so who knows. Mom brought nearly 9000 lbs of stuff when she moved in with me and little of it has been unpacked. We fought like cats and dogs every time we opened a box so we didn’t open many. After the car wreck I can’t get down to basement very well and just getting the upstairs back in order after Mom hoarded it up is still a task though I seem to be winning. I hope once I get the upstairs done and do more PT maybe I can tackle the basement.
On a side note. I expect the nursing home to haul me in for a talking to again. Mom has hoarded up Every last space in her part of her room so she wanted these storage boxes she saw on QVC to extend her storage capacity. Yes, I bought them for her to keep her off my back. In retrospect it was probably not a good idea.

Good morning everyone! The second exterminator treatment is Tues at 9:15. Everything I packed up during that horrible marathon session is still packed up, but there are still clothes I never got to that need to go in plastic bags, in each of the closets. While I have today and tomorrow to do it, I would really like to get it all done today so I don't have that terrible dread and panic I went through 2 weeks ago. I'm still drinking coffee #1 but here's what I'll be starting on: DONE my meds cat meds coffee washed dishes fed/watered cat started list for hotel All clothes in Hall closet bagged Bedroom closet: One session 2 bags done UP NEXT Bag remaining clothes in bedroom closet bag clothes in 15 minute intervals with breaks in chat

Suddenly it's time for me to get ready and out the door! See you after my walk.

I'm back from my walk, it started drizzling about 2/3 through so we went home early. This time my senior client didn't say anything--I was waiting for her to say "oh it's raining? It wasn't a minute ago!" Um yes, that's the way rain is, before it starts it isn't raining, then after it starts, it IS raining. But she didn't say anything this time. I have four and a half hours until I have to go back for the second walk, so surely I can get a lot done before then.
I'm going to finish up the bedroom project first.

Magda, no, I have never researched my dad's army time, the story is that he worked in food supply (in England and France) rather than doing actual fighting. However, when going through the other army stuff I have of his, I found some kind of ID card and another paper listing him as a medic. I know for a fact that he never went to college so he had no medical training, but I imagine in a war they train people who don't know anything and they just learn on the job.
From what I know medics were actually in the areas where there would be casualties, and they sort of did what an EMT does, stabilize and transport people so they could be transported to where the doctors were--although it would be a much rougher, less technical version due to circumstances and the fact that it was the 1940s--so I guess anyone could be trained to do this on site. I don't know why the family story would be food supply and the reality would be medic, but I do know that after my father came back from the war he never wanted to talk about anything related to it and would get angry if someone tried to push for details. That sounds more like someone who was on the front lines in some capacity, instead of someone who was fairly safe doing office/logistical type stuff.
I could see why someone who had no interest or aptitude for medicine, who was pressed into service to handle wounded and dying soldiers in a war, would not want to keep reliving those memories.
I do have some other things that he brought back, some souvenir type things like postcard books, but also a few Nazi items like uniform patches. Although I know there are all sorts of ways he could have obtained those. So, I don't know.
