Good afternoon everyone, ((((hugs)))) to all who need them I've finally made it back here. I am struggling here but still trying to make progress. I made it to laundramat Friday night and got everything washed up, folded and put away - that was huge. Before that my neighbor came over with a friend of his and helped me hang the privacy fence gate that both panels had fallen off. That was a huge eyesore and such a blessing to have back right again. Yesterday, I needed a day to mope around and be sad apparently. I did get the puppy to Vetco for her second round of vaccinations. She is fully vaccinated now . YAY Today I've accomplished Kitchen Maintenance and have been going through the room of doom and I can actually move around in there now - before there was no room. Sometimes all you need is just room to work . 2 more huge tubs emptied and one out the door to the trash, and a medium sized cardboard box emptied, I also moved over the broken washer & dryer in the Laundry "Closet" to make room for brooms and cleaners and cleaned that area up. Going through and throwing away stuff is so emotionally draining. I am taking a break from it now.. Next: Get up the dog toys Clear floor in Living Room Clear floor in sunroom

Hi Everyone! I had an early dinner - ham salad, crackers, and some almond cookies. (Too many cookies).
I am now going to take a 40 min nap. I have gotten into bad? Habit of taking nap after dinner.
Then it will be back to working on house,

Hello startingover! It sounds like you're really making progress--yes, decision making and releasing is emotionally draining. I've found that when I start making the decision to KEEP everything, instead of keep some and release some, that means I need to stop--my "releasing muscles" are done for the day and need time to recover overnight.
I got a long call from my sister so I have only started lunch now.

Exactly Diane, I’ve figured that out too. When I stop putting stuff in the trash and donate piles and just start moving stuff around I soon call it a day.
Hi TML - enjoy your nap.
The floors in the LR and sunroom have been swept and moped and it smells much better in here. I emptied the Litterbox too - that always helps.

dtesposito - you have been humming along today, getting lots done! my mindset only changes because of you people here - you and Unswamping are both mentors to me; i learn lots from you both that i otherwise never would've thought of on my own. i have made a list of categories. top for me are books, fabric, art and craft supplies, CDs, and ethnic clothing. that stuff represents about 75% of my hoard ha ha; plus the storage to keep it all.
i would like to sell some of my books; i have a lot of nice OOP and art books. and i may have thousands too... afraid to count. but i do think designating a space where these things will fit is important. somehow, like unswampy, i need to corral them "like with like" so i can "see" the amount i have vs what i actually get to keep, once i designate a space and then work toward it.
that was smart to order pizza delivered, magda - it made you lots of meals and you didn't have to cook. great job on ditching more papers, oust! good to see you, startingover, and WTG on all your progress and getting the gate back together. a puppy sound like a fun and joyful addition! WTG TML on an early dinner; naps are good IMO.
i did manage to cook brunch, eat, do dishes, sweep up a lot of cat hair, dust, and loose litter from the traffic areas, cleaned some old food out of fridge and found several more items to donate. now it's time for the lost car keys scavenger hunt at my garden. the walk over should be nice.
take care everyone, and keep on keeping on! i may post again when i get home tonight; i need to make pesto and do more in the apartment. i can also load some stuff into the car and get it out of here.

Diane you're doing a great job on those books. I need to release some of my books too....later CC - It's good to see you again. I hope you find your keys! I'm at the 2 weeks free point today. Soon to be ex left Sunday morning two weeks ago and I have found peace finally. I've also found the floor, I just realized this is the first time that I've swept and mopped the entire house in the same day! (well except for the "storage room" that is still a work in progress). I guess that's proof that a great deal of "stuff and crap" has already left this house. NEXT: Pour out mop water and clean bucket Clean broom and put outside to dry Fix Dinner

I know that feeling startingover, that was my mantra for the first few years I'd been at this site. You'll get to that point. In the meantime it sounds like you have enough to deal with the cleaning and adjusting to being single. You are doing great.
I'm home from my evening walk. Honestly, I would like one week to go by in which my senior client doesn't make me mad.
Since I ate lunch so late I will wait for dinner.
TO DO:
Start a load of laundry Place an online order 10 minutes on books

And speaking of books CC, if you have books all over the place (like I did) you might be surprised at how many you could let go, if you haven't seen them in a long time they may have lost their importance to you. One trick I use is to ask myself how I would feel about having to read a particular book next. Not soon, but the very next new book I pick up to read has to be this one. It really works for me, because when I look at the book in that light, I see that it's NOT at the top of the interest list. Especially with nonfiction, I realize that I'm interested in a particular subject, but not really enough to read a 400 page book on it. Maybe a long magazine article, but not a book that will take hours of my life.
Now, this wouldn't work for coffee table type books, but you could still tell yourself that you're going to sit down and look at every page--and then actually do it--and ask yourself if the book is essential, and something you would like to look through often. I've culled my stack of that type of book down to the ones that I really love, which are on my book shelves, and another stack that sits next to a dresser--it's about 3 feet high. I have not actually looked through each of those stacked books though, and if I can do that, I'm sure I'll find that I can let a lot of them go.
Age has a lot to do with this, I think. There was a time that once I started reading a book, I made myself finish it no matter what. I felt like I had committed to this book, and even if I didn't like it, I'm was going to read it and give it a fair chance. Well, I no longer do that. I give a book a chance, but if I don't get into it, I stop reading it. That's from realizing that I'm getting older and the number of books I can read in my life is dwindling, and also from the number of enjoyable series that I've gotten into. I'd rather read a book from a favorite series than force myself to slog through something that isn't compelling to me.
I'm long over the idea that every book in the world is precious and has to be preserved. There is a lot of trash written in books, and while trash is obviously in the eye of the beholder, just because something is printed on paper and bound together, it does not make it valuable in any way. In my time volunteering at a thrift store, and now with the little libraries, I can see that there are lots and lots of books that are just not of use to anyone. And that's okay, books have a useful life, and when that's finished it's okay to recycle them. They are not living, feeling beings, (although the paper used to be a living being) and if everyone who wants to read them has already done so, it's okay to recycle them.
In the spirit of swampy's activity challenge, think about what use you could make of the space if you let some books (or anything else) go. It's a question of what we want and value the most, and then recognizing the fact that in valuing the wrong things, we're depriving ourselves of what's most important.

Feeling like a human being today!
Got up and showered and took a friend of mine to church. He is visiting from the south and enjoyed the service. Came home and putzed around until 5pm when I got picked up and brought to a place where some friends were watching football. I was a DD so I ate and watched and chatted with everyone.
While I "putzed" around I gathered every Christmas purchase so far and boxed them up. I have packing lists for each box. I emptied out more boxes, actually condensed some. I pretty much started some donate bags and walked throughout the house, grabbing things and either putting them where they belonged, near where they belonged or in a donate bag. Huge icky box collapsed and out with the trash. I usually try to do the one task that has the biggest impact Today was the opposite. I was finding random small things and putting them away. I did get the car emptied out and I wiped down the front area. Dash, console, etc.
I have a bin of picnic type stuff that I need to stow in the basement. I am tired of it taking prime real estate in the kitchen.
Now to do a couple of things before I go to bed

Hello ohblondie, it sounds like your putzing around was quite productive! I'm glad you feel better.
I was so antsy about the new book buying site I found I went back in there and tried again to get my registration completed, this time it worked! Maybe there was a glitch that disappeared because I had restarted my computer, who knows. So I think I'll stay up a little to work on the book box. But I have to eat a quick dinner first.
