Hi Mothra -
"And I thought of something I could do every day: log in here at SOAS" -Mothra YES!!! I am new here as of Jan. 7, & I made that vow to myself on the first day - read & post daily. I have kept it thus far, so this is my 8th day of success. Maybe you can make that vow to yourself too. Maybe think of it & call it a gift. It surely will be. I promise. Best to you, Blue

Does it have to be different every day? Every day, the one thing I do is make sure everything I bring in the house in the morning when I get home from work, is put away. Mail is put in the recycling, or filed. My tonic cans that I rinsed at work are put in the bag to go back to the store for redemption. The vowels are fed, and then the plate is cleaned.
And when I'm done, I dry my sink.

Yesterday: Did my one-a-day of downsizing books from bookcase in master bedroom, & then dust that bookcase. It was not fun. It was mad dusty. But an entire garbage bag was collected from it & went out-out-out. I did leave the top of the bookcase for another day. There are no books on top, just lots of misc. clutter & more DUST. So the books are reduced & taken care of, & I will go back to that top. What I learned: When I decide what I want to 'do' with something to fix it, improve it, or refurbish it in some way - well, that's it, I don't bother maintaining it anymore. Not wise. For instance, I had long ago decided that I was SICK of dusting & maintaining the aforementioned bookcase, especially since it is open shelving & quickly gets very naughty to deal with. BLECH. Soooo I decided to give it a glassed front in some way, maybe 2 framed glass doors attached with hinges, or whatever would work & still be attractive. Problem solved, . Life goes on & no more thought of keeping up the clutter & dust (& also dog hair blowing up in there, back when dog was still limber enough to get upstairs to sleep in master bedroom.) Um, so bookcase gets no doors, & no more attention until becoming the monster I just had to tackle. Gyah. NOW, getting those doors on must soon have to become a priority, else I will again be dealing with the monster down the road. ps: I was going to post a photo of the lovely clean bookcase, but I decided there is a rather large number of titles that I really don't think ought be plastered on a public board, . Example: "The Male Member: Being a Compendium of Facts, Figures, Foibles, and Anecdotes", by Kit Schwartz. Trust me, it only gets 'grittier' from there. Or juicier, as it were. For Today, Thursday: 1. Do ME. Spa-out & such, as I have important events on Friday & really want to be at my physical best. That would be whatever my physical best turns out to be at this time. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ LettingGo -
Of course you can count your coming home routine as your one-a-day! You can count whatever you want!!! You da boss heah. Fabulous that you do that routine tooooo. Many-many of us get into trouble when we come home, time after time, & just SPREAD STUFF everywhere. I am guilty of it. Thus far, I do have a place for keys & current purse, the perfect immediate spot for them to be dropped upon coming home. Other than that, things still just kind of get SAT for later, whenever I can get back to them for put-aways. Not usually a good plan, . A consistent routine like yours is a dream to so many! GOOD ON YOU!!!

It's important. I want to stay in mostly-maintenance. There are still a couple of areas that need to be cleared, but mostly, I have stepped OUT of squalor. I don't want to go back.

Yesterday I spa'd myself, yay!
For Today, Friday:Will be gone most of day & night, therefore my choice is a bit limited for the one-a day. Soooo, thinking, thinking - what to do? 1. Bring upstairs laundry downstairs to laundry room? Yeah, that will work. And the great beauty of this is: YOU NEVER HAVE TO GO BACK, NOT EVAH!!!
B-R-A-V-O!!!
You is beautiful.

AnnieBlue and LettingGo, you're both doing really well. Good for you! :-)
As far as my one thing for today:
- I made my bed. - I mopped spot in utility room (cleaning up after doggie) - I wiped up spill on kitchen counter - I picked up scrap of paper on floor - I put mail away immediately when I brought it in from mailbox - I hung up clothes - I maintained my living room, kitchen, and bathroom .. (note: these are "in process" rooms, I'm still working on them, but I have maintained progress I have made in them so far)
Thanks! :-)

Yesterday, Friday: 1. Brought upstairs laundry to downstairs laundry room.
What I learned: I can do ONE THING in a day, even on days when I'm home for mere minutes! Previously, I would have just told myself it was okay to take that day 'off' from any chores, since getting out the door & home again was enough. Um, NOT, . So I vow to never again let a day pass without at least ONE thing getting accomplished. THIS THREAD has done that for me. BLESS YOU, PHOEBE! For Today, Saturday: 1. Remove & process all the carp living atop the vanity chair in master bedroom. Second most demand resistant room in the house. I did the entire contents of the bookcase whilst in chat, & then completed the TOP of the bookcase whilst in a separate chat session, & now I'm going after another corner in there, yay! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ican -Thank you for the cheer! Maintaining the 'in-process' rooms is a killer for so many of us. Especially since those rooms often end up with the overflow from working on our 'just beginning' rooms. Gyah! So, BIG WOO & CONGRATS that you are keeping those up!!!

Yesterday, Saturday: 1. I removed & processed all the carp living atop the vanity chair in master bedroom. And I did it whilst in chat, very shortly after having posted it as my one-a-day! That was a welcome surprise. Also completed the decluttering & cleaning of top of bookcase in same room, AND did the same with a little table & entire headboard tooooo. (Complex headboard with shelves & cabinets & nooks & crannies & such.) ALL during chat, yay!
For Today, Sunday: 1. Remove all the magneted crap from front & side of refrigerator, then thoroughly clean outside of refrigerator, then re-affix a reduced amount of stuff (papers, photos, calendar) to outside of refrigerator. Inside is clean, so now it is time to tackle the outside, yay!

Wow, AnnieBlue, you are getting SO much done! Good for you!!! I really appreciate the encouragement you've given me. What you wrote about "I can do ONE THING in a day" is how I look at it, too. When I tell myself that, it is just enough motivation to pry myself off the seat (which can be darn tough to do). ... I've noticed that if I just one thing done, then it sets me in motion, and I'm likely to get something else done, too. Like you wrote, AnnieBlue, thanks to Phoebe for starting this thread! OK, for today my one thing was: - I made bed - I hung up clothes - I mopped up spot in utility room (cleaning up after doggie) - I washed a pan and a lid - I shredded a few papers - I put mail away as soon as I got it from mailbox - I maintained my progress in these improved (but still in process) rooms: living room, kitchen, bathroom AnnieBlue, you had mentioned taking papers off refrigerator and cleaning the outside. ... That is something I did a few days ago. It does make things look better! I also cleaned off the outside and inside of my microwave that day as well, and it is much more pleasant now. Thanks!

Sunday: 1. Woo, I already did my one-a-day for today (clean outside front & side of fridge) by taking myself STRAIGHT into Chat & doing it with the help of other chatters!!! I love it when that happens! Thanks, Chatties. And then I moved on to the microwave, & it is now spotless inside & out. Then I made a new rule: If you dirty the microwave, you must clean the microwave. Now I will tell it to husband, ha! There are only the two of us here now, & I have been lax in making rules for us both to live by. With only 2 people, you 'know' who did the dirty-ing up & can hold them accountable. For Tomorrow, Monday: 1. Get the rest of the 'used this year' Christmas stuff OFF of the dining table & put away. This requires emptying a box or two to put it in, blech. But I really need it done. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~` Dear Ican -It seems there has been a good bit of refrigerator & microwave cleaning going on lately! Several of us did those jobs while in chat this morning, & you did yours a few days ago. YAY, US!!! I love how you always have a long lists of things you have done - with lots of variety. But also while keeping your other spaces maintained. That is wise living. Thank you for letting me know something I said has helped.

Monday: Didn't get the Christmas stuff of dining room table yet, but DID work in the master bedroom closet & storage area that is accessed from the closet. Have to do that in order to get all the reduced & organized Christmas collection in there.
Also got TONS of things accomplished while in chat with all you wonderful people!!! Including removing at least a year's worth of DUST from master bedroom, gyah.
For Tomorrow, Tuesday: 1. Continue working in master bedroom & closet, & storage closet too, woo!
Best to All, Blue

aah. been looking for this thread. lettinggo, i love it that you do that for yourself when you come home from work. what a great one a day, which i will steal when i go back to work, if i ever get work again. great job on staying maintained too.
my one a day today was a nice long shower, hair washed, all the other self care stuff done. i can get pretty slack with my own self care.
now it's night and i'm sick again from my self abusive diet and lack of rest. i am on day 2 (again) of deleting white flour, sweets, and dairy from my life. so we'll call that yesterday's one a day!
tonight's one a night will be to make a soup. and eat some. i think a hot thai soup sounds nice! then i will go into chat and see if there is anyone who will challenge with me. glad to finally find this thread again.

Hi Creative -What nice things you did for yourself yesterday! Spa-ing yourself & making soup! Haevenly, & You deserve it!!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ican -Thank you for the cheer! I'm doing good - keeping on keeping on. Congrats on your 'several' jobs done! You always have a good list! Go-GO-GO!!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Today, Tuesday: I worked myself silly in master closet & the ante-closet (storage.) I DESPISE dealing with all the flippin' DUST, but I am getting on down the road in those two areas. For Tomorrow, Wednesday: 1. Yet more work in both the master closet & storage closet. BLECH, but it must be done. You can expect wash-rinse-repeat postings of these two areas for as long as it takes.
