Two nights ago I had a dream about my laundry room. It would be a GREAT laundry room if you could get in there. It has floor to ceiling cupboards on one whole wall. The whole room is about 8ft by 8ft. (I think that is big for a laundry) BUT.... right now the floor is covered with piles of clothes. The hampers are over flowing. But the dream was about 3 giant garbage bags of clothes that have been sitting there for over 6 months. They are in the bags instead of the hampers because they have been identified as "cat peed on". The intent of course was to get them all washed and unstinky" Can't throw away clothes silly. But in my dream I THREW OUT ALL THE BAGS!!!. Didn't even look inside. Told myself (in the dream) they have been in those bags for months, probably don't fit anymore anyway, STINK, noone will want to wear the few that can be saved. TOSS THEM. Then I woke up and started the "You can't throw out all those clothes, thats wasting money" Yeah, like they have been usefull sitting in the bags? . "Just wait, you can go through them over the weekend" I REALLY don't want to dig through cat peed clothes SO WHY ARE THEY STILL SITTING IN THE LAUNDRY ROOM

Your laundry room sounds potentially AWESOME! Please give yourself the chance to let it BE that!
I would like to remind you of the principle of Amnesty. Sometimes the job is just tooooo overwhelming. Your house is NOT a land-fill or a junkyard. Give yourself a break: just toss the garbage bags unopened. From here on, you can make a GiveAway box or bag: but for now, maybe you just have to TOSS.
Idea: clothes with cat pee that have been in garbage bags for 6 months are also probably mildewed and rotten and thus unsalvageable. Also, just opening the bags will unleash a horrible smell and create more mess leading to potential anxiety/depression and the tendency to GIVE UP. I vote to TOSS.

I am weighing in on tossing them as well. I also have a hard time throwing clothes away, but am getting better about it (at least one piece at a time) I do know with helping to clean out my son and dil's apartment, that many times cat pee stains anyway, and no amount of washing and stain removal will help those clothes be salvageable.

I have been in this same situation, wanna know what is the best thing to do?? TOSS!!!!! If you haven't really missed the stuff for 6 months, you aren't going to miss them if you toss them. If you start going through them, you will want to save certain things. Just TOSS, for your own sanity, TOSS, you hereby have amnesty on saving the cat pee clothes. I have been exactly where you are! TOSS

I;ve had several dreams about my squalor. They usually come at a time when my squalor becomes the focus... Example... when i am supposed to host company and it seems like everything is magnified more than it is. In my ideal world, i would have no garbage, and no squalor whatsoever. Right now my apartment is at maintenance level, however, my bedroom and a few other rooms seem to be worse than they actually are. I worry about smells, and about how other people perceive me. My apartment is actually really clean considering where i came from originally. My dreams are often right before company and usually consist of not having everything done perfectly. Unfortunately its very anxiety ridden and i recognize this.

Hi HFH - Woo Hoo, I LOVE IT that your subconscious flat-out TOLD YOU what to do with those bags!!! Very coooool. I need me a dream like that about my utility closet. Seriously, I do believe your anxiety over the bags caused your mind to come up with the fastest way to alleviate the anxiety. And if your mind alone isn't enough to make you feel confidant in tossing them, please allow everyone's words about amnesty to help you too. Think of them as bags, just bags, & TOSS THEM. YOU CAN DO THIS, & you will feel much better when you do. Give yourself a fresh slate, & then deal with any new cat-clothing issues as they arise. That is the beauty of amnesty! It is a gift to yourself, & you deserve it.

Toss them. You said to yourself, "I can't throw away these clothes, that's wasting money!" Next time, say to yourself, "I can't let cats pee on these clothes....that's wasting money!" Learn from it!

I have this struggle of letting bags or boxes go also but not the dream- and I finally made myself start guessing what really could be worth while and of course- I came up with nothing- sigh I still have not become bold enough to toss the box or bag with out checking but I have began a system where I sort out with the idea that I can only keep half- games seem to motivate me- I have found that if I am playing the game I will follow the rule sigh- also I have had bags of clothes that so long they lost the usefulness to anyone living here or near-they no longer fit or the style was long past and also the stains had stayed so long that they would not come out- I hope you can toss them so that your dream will come true!

They are still sitting in the laundry room. I don't want to dig through them. I shouldn't dig through them. I don't even want to open them. I will toss them. I will toss them. I will toss them. I WILL TOSS THEM.
