After everything, I really decided I wanted a dyson cannister---cannot afford 600 dollars for a vacuum right now though. In the end I bought a Sears blue magic cannister about the size of a big turkey --I hope this comparison is not prophetic. It was only about 100 dollars. With the price difference i can get a rug and a flame stitched corner chair for my newly floored family room. So it isn't Mr. Right but I am ok with Mr. Right Now.

Yes, and I have. I have owned Oreck for about 30 years. I have bought three.
The first one, I gave to my son & DIL when I wanted a more deluxe model. Then I bought the third one for the restaurant.
I love my Oreck vaccums.
The only drawback is that there are no hose attachements for the types of cleaning you want.
Oreck does make a small canister vacuum with hose, etc. and I have one, but rarely use it, as I don't really like it. When I want to vacuum my furniture, I remove the cushions and put the upright directly on the couch and vacuum just like I was on the floor. Same for my mattress & box springs.

I use the one here that my folks got a few years ago.......a Simplicity 6 Series and I googled it and found out that it's a Commercial vacuum! It really does a good job and has a lot of suction and has onboard attachments. www.simplicityvac.com/products/commercial/6870/

My brother and I got a Kenmore (Sears brand) canister vac for Christmas from my parents in 1995 or so.
Theirs has long died and they have a Dyson. Mine is still going strong and I love it.
