I don't want to hijack this thread.. but just wanted to share. The handycouple showed up today so I could give them a walk around the house, and point out numerous things that need to be repaired. In addition, the husband mentioned a few other items that he said would be easy to repair... Things that I hadn't asked about, because I thought they were beyond fixing.
They stayed for a LOOOOOONG time and gave me lots of ideas and suggestions. They said that everything I want done is doable and reasonable. While we were chatting, he noticed two of the concrete blocks were on the grass (the 80 lbs ones that I had dropped on my foot and fractured!). He lifted them up and put them out of the way, "so the grass can breath and start growing again". He's wiry and tall, but very strong. PHew.
They are going to start work on Tuesday, and we will see from there. They charge $25 dollars an hour, for both of them to work together. And because I have so many things to do, they will surely fill several hours worth of work.
The ladies who have used their services said they are very efficient and don't waste time, and are also very creative in repairing things, rather than ripping them apart to rebuild.
Let's see. I am hopeful. And feel brave that I actually went through with this.

Good for you Mellow! There are times when we need to spend some money on what's really important, and for both of us, THIS is sooooooo important! I feel depressed because I know that I can't do what I used to be able to do around here, and that is an awful feeling, but I will not allow it to squalorize my mind or my home. I will do what I can, and hire my friend to do the rest. ~ 3g

There is nothing like hiring someone, (after months of asking former bf if he would help).... to spur someone to come out of the woodwork. He phoned and I mentioned I was having people come to work, and no kidding, within ten minutes he came over with his buddy. And dug and lugged and lifted and moved all the concrete blocks where they need to go!!!!!!!!!!! There are obviously other things that need to be done, but they did the very heavy physical part, and definitely saved me some time and money. I couldn't believe it!!! I think it was a pride thing on his part, that I was resorting to having to ask another man (and his wife) to do the work. I dunno. Guys can be interesting sometimes. Tomorrow the handycouple comes to start the post placing, leveling of earth, etc. But at least the concrete blocks are in place!
