I just found the coolest thing!
Over the last few years I have been using a cheap enzymatic cleaner that I get from Wal-mart for general pet messes, along with a mini carpet cleaner, and that worked pretty well, but I have come upon a bigger problem. One of my cats has been peeing in one place in the hallway, repeatedly, and now it seems that she is starting another spot. To be sure, it is because I have not been the best at keeping the litter clean, but I digress....Anyways, I have read how many people find hydrogen peroxide helpful with pet odors and stains. Well, I just went out there and poured some on the newer stain and after letting it sit for a few minutes, I sucked it up into the machine. I am almost positive that the yellowing was definitely lighter and the smell was slighter. I am letting some more work on the spot now, as I type. When I poured the first batch on, the smell seemed a little more intense...so maybe that was a sign that it is working. Maybe I will not have to pay $330 to get carpet repair, as it would be great if I could just wait until whenever I decide to move out and replace it all at once. I will update on how this works!

Liz, Last time I used H202 it totally took the color out of the fabric I was trying to clean! Do you have very light colored carpet? I'd be scared to use it on anything bright or dark, but will be interested to see how it turned out for you! Good luck, Wendy

Wendy, my carpet is beige, the scourge of carpet colours. So far, I do not see any discoloration , but I don't really care, as I will have to replace the carpet when I move, anyways. My current plan is to get the stink out and then maybe get a throw rug to cover the two areas. I am working on the really bad spot now. The spot I mentioned in the original post definitely smells better, still has a slight urine smell though. I am hoping that persistence will help!
