*i am trying to swipe my bathroom sink every morning; the bathroom looks immeasurably better. it has been almost a week since the cleaning ladies did the mega-clean: bathroom still looks good
*i took out one bag of trash myself *i organized huge pile of recycling for DH *i put away all the shopping (some food, some souvenirs)

I do hope you get to enjoy yourself a bit while you're in Florida. It would be a shame if you went all that way just to return frazzled. I'm a little jealous...I haven't been to Florida since I was thirteen years old. Also, my Colts are in Miami, so you're in charge of them for the rest of the week!

Me: Saints & Colts (no hesitation required: I knew right away) DH: what happened to that unbeaten team? Me: that is the sum total of our combined knowledge of football..... today's housekeeping triumphs *made bed *tidied kitchen, loaded dishwasher *white laundrY: washed, dried, hanging to air dry *swiped sink thanks for all the kind words; we are having a MUCH BETTER time, as the birdwatching-nature-viewing has been spectacular plumber came again (two guys this time) while we were out on a 1.5 hour pontoon boat trip to see manatees: they found a crack in the back of the toilet; cannot be fixed; whole toilet needs replacing; they will contact the owners directly

Both the Colts and the Saints were unbeaten, until the Cowboys beat the Saints and the Jets beat us (stupid coach putting in the second string ). So there you go, the story of the unbeaten teams. I will say, if you're gonna be in Florida during the Super Bowl, be careful that night. People do get crazy.

I will say, if you're gonna be in Florida during the Super Bowl, be careful that night. People do get crazy. we are leaving the next day, BUT we will be staying in Sunday night for our last hurrah final supper: PASTA! DH insists! He will be cooking! Today\s triumphs *took huge pile of reclcying to trash room (with dh) *took out all trash, so cleaning ladies won't have to do this *made bed *unloaded dishwasher *final grocery shopping: put everything away cleaning ladies KEEP WANTING TO TALK ABOUT the filthy bathrooms from last week: "you were right that they needed cleaning".......and....."we told the owner that they looked dirty, but she said they were ok" (during an interview earlier) Last night the vertical blind broke AGAIN. DH fixed it AGAIN. The tv remote and cable no longer work in the bedroom. The tv appears to have been purchased in 1992: time for a new one? Date written on instruction sheet. My brother tried to walk me through the cable reboot (via phone) but since the remote doesn't work, no can do. DH and I both tried to fix the remote. I changed the batteries; he filed down (gentle scrub) the contacts: this is something he knows about from cars. neither of us had any luck. DH (who grew up in a pre-war farm house in the oulde countrye in truly mediaeval conditions) is having trouble walking on the rugs. He has no contamination anxiety, trust me, but he has trouble with the general neglect. I wear house slippers inside ALL THE TIME. I am going to put a clean towel over the worsst area in the bedroom. I also told the cleaning ladies that i have washed towels twice. I am NOT putting the clean towels back in the already overcrowded linen closet, but on a good shelf in one of the closets. I am a firm believer in rotating the linens........... thanks to all who have been so supportive of me.

last night, DearHubby made fabulous shrimp dinner, with nice gulf pink shrimps from the farmers market. totally awesom. with italian good bubbly. i cleaned up, we got the cable tv working finally, we were just relaxing after dinner..............and..........
the toilet in my bathroom overflowed badly.
DH was able to 'unplug' whatever it was with the handy toilet plunger. we used huge number of towels, clean and dirty, to mop floor. I was almost crying. When I had to take the wet rug outside to dry, the sliding screen door stuck AGAIN.....i knocked over the cheap-o drying rack..........eventually i got the rug outside, where DH spread it to dry over some chairs.
we were then left with a huge number of sopping wet towels: not safe to leave anywhere, because of the humidity. everything starts to smell......
there is only ONE broken laundry basket, small, which we have been using for our own dirty clothes.
we refilled our laundry use card at the kiosk in the lobby, and then i washed, dried, folded, put away all towels: two complete loads.
by this time, i seriously wanted to come home. i called sister, she calmed me down, plus one xanax.
today I:
*made bed *cooked more prunes for DH *turned on dishwasher after our lunch *hand-washed my underwire bras *tidied up hither and thither
i also swiped out my bathtub. dh had to toss the wet towels and toilet plunger somewhere. thankfully he takes care of me......
i doubt very much if i will be able to use this bathroom much now. every single nerve cell is on high alert. i had a quick wash this morning; i will swim later today. if i can't force myself to wash my hair before we leave, so be it. we will be in a hampton inn in gainesville on monday.
i now know why the toilet plunger was stored in the 'guest' bathroom.....enuff said.
also, one of the co-owners in toronto called twice last night, about the ongoing key issue, woke me up both times; i also had to get out of bed and dress to get the key from the former handy-man, plus write out a receipt for him. dh was with me, but he cannot write out a receipt.
bird watching continues great; food fab; weather nice.
i would not come back to this condo "if they paid me in gold" --- one of DH's usual vows

Dear Script,
These people owe you a Florida vacation in someone else's condo!
I'm proud of you for keeping up with the daily and crisis chores.

Oh my dear script, how I wish I could help you in some way!
I hope you give whoever was in charge of this little jaunt a piece of your mind. Heck, give them a piece of MY mind while you're at it!
It is ridiculous that you've had to put up with this nonsense.
Just remember my favorite Bible verse: "And it came to pass..." It doesn't come to stay, it comes to pass.

It is ridiculous that you've had to put up with this nonsense. Just remember my favorite Bible verse: "And it came to pass..." It doesn't come to stay, it comes to pass. dear lumi, and mimi, and all my dear friends here, too numerous to mention: today is my DearHubby's 72nd birthday; he has been an absolute saint through these trials. we had a splendid birthday day for him, including the usual: birdwatching, nature viewing, italian bubbly at lunch (swanky restaurant on Fifth Avenue in Naples); etc. i have now officially given up trying to make sense of this condo. i am not giving up trying to keep our place in order and to have some fun..... today's housekeeping triumphs *made bed this morning *laundry: light clothes: to washer *laundry: dark clothes: to washer we will probably have 'scraps' for supper after our big lunch; i will turn the dishwasher on later, and finish the laundry. the tv remote isn't working today. thankfully it is STUCK on the sci-fi channel (snort) so DH is happy oh, by-the-by: i am wearing my squalorfest silver-and-turquoise rosary almost constantly, and praying to keep my sanity. "Healing Lord, help me". I have also found out that there is a group of widows from NH who want to rent this place, but are very concerned about some 'issues', namely tv etc. I wish them luck....... I had a nice manicure this afternoon too.

i finished up the dishes last night; washed some pots (the down-side of cooking pasta... ; turned on dishwasher finished 3 loads of laundry to the 'hanging to air-dry' stage had to take an Advil 400 mg: hip pain growing.... woke up this morning with no pain my poor DearHubby, however, has athlete's foot. my brother went home with athlete's foot too (he went to a podiatrist immediately). DH & I visited a Wallgreen's for OTC supplies. One more reason for me to keep my shoes and sox on and not shower! ha ha.....but i will go swimming later (ghastly windy cloudy weather = no one else in the pool, hurrah) today\'s housekeeping triumphs *made bed *unloaded dishwasher *two loads of trash to garbage room *scrubbed out kitchen trash container: wrong size liner bag, something leaked *organized 4 small bags of stuff to take home (maps; gifts in nice bag; some ecology stuff for a friend with environment canada; bag of my e-bay purchases) *brought above bags to car with DH: tidied up back seat. *lunch, cleaned up considering we have been 'on the road' for over 3 weeks, car was amazingly uncluttered. off to seafood restaurant in Goodland for DH's 'official' birthday dinner tonight.

Happy Birthday to your DH! I wish him many happy returns of the day.
I also pray no more pain for you, a quick cure for his foot discomfort, and a beautiful remainder of the vacation.
"i have now officially given up trying to make sense of this condo. i am not giving up trying to keep our place in order and to have some fun....."
Exactly the tack to take. I am proud of you.

Oh, Script! You and your dear hubby deserve so much more!
Whenever I get a haircut, they ask if I want my hair shampooed first. I'm certain that you could go to a hairdresser and just have them wash and dry, or wash and style your hair. It would be all sparkly and clean, and it feels so good to have someone else scrub your hair!
I'm proud of you for having fun and eating well despite the icky condo. Athletes foot.....unbelievable.

i went swimming EARLY this morning (10:30 am): freezing cold outside, pool water ok, i was the only one there. i swam until i was sort of numb, then quickly dried self, went upstairs and had a quick shower and washed my hair. i have a huge faith in pool chlorine as a disenfectant, rightly or wrongly and i am now clean and my hair is far less grungy....... today's final housekeeping triumphs *made bed *packed most of my things *started give-away tray for cleaning lady (eg: i refuse to bring home magazines already read, extra toiletries, half-finished bottle of listerine etc) *lunch *loaded-turned on dishwasher *tossed all flowers|: these were a huge bonus: very fresh, lasted forever, all still had a bit of life in them *helped DearHubby bring many things down to car (he spent about an hour washing car outside, and giving interior a good swipe too) in spite of all the headaches we have had, i am truly sorry to leave this beautiful place. i have taken lots of pix; bought some fab treats for myself (ferragamo purse! ); done more birdwatching and nature viewing than imaginabnle; eaten lots of good meals; learned a bit about FL history (reading books, magazines); and best of all SURVIVED less-than-perfect condo conditions. i can also say in truth that we are leaving this place CLEANER than we found it................................ thanks to all for your love and support.....tomorrow we are off to Gainesville; then Macon GA; somewhere in TN, can't remember right now; Hebron KY; Bowling green OH; then home.

I hope y'all have a safe and enjoyable trip home. (Tennessee, hm? I was born in TN & have lots of family in the Memphis area...) CD
