I do manage to keep up with the dishes, more or less. What really worked for me was a tip from either this board or the old one: somebody mentioned using one of those scrubby sponge on a stick tools. I don't know what you call them, but they can be filled with washing up liquid. I know sponges are not ideal to use for washing dishes (they collect food particles, and bacteria). I do know that. But for some reason, using one of those sponge stick things worked for me, so I've stuck with it. I wash the dishes under hot running water. The water is too hot to keep my hands under, which is why I have to use something on a stick. I can't really explain why this works. For some reason, it seems to make washing up less of a commitment. Instead of having to think "I'll do the washing up now" as if it's a big task, I will sometimes just wash the items that I've just used. It just seems to fit with the way my mind works. I wash up bit by bit. When I'm cooking, I'll wash as I go along. I do still sometimes leave washing up if I'm tired, and sometimes I've left it for a day or two, so it's not completely in control. But it's nothing like it used to be and hasn't slipped back to what it used to be. I used to yearn for a dishwasher, and now I don't even want one because I know it would interfere with my "system"! I really don't know if this would work for anyone else, but I thought I'd mention it in case it helps .

I LOVE my "sponge on a stick"!!!! Absolutely changed my life. I know - silly, right - such a tiny thing, but made a HUGE difference. I think it may have to do with it being apart from sticking my hand directly on to grease/food/whatever. You can buy replacement sponges for those, and change it out. If you do have a dishwasher you can throw sponges in there - I don't know if that totally sterilizes them or whatever but the water does get pretty hot in there. I haven't had any sickness or anything like that. Hope that helps someone.
