Crazycatlady - you made me laugh so hard!
And yes Eating bon bons- the mini blinds!
The perfectionist in me would say- -- WHY CLEAN THE CURTAINS AND THE WINDOWS IF THE BLINDS ARE DIRTY? That is a ******* day job..
Whoever created mini blinds - was a man. Who didnt' clean.
I much prefer the old venetians-( or the new pantation blinds) the wide ones- they were manageable( but expensive).
That same guy has been responsible for many pretty but impossible to clean light fixtures............
And stoves that dont clean up well.
And the idea that white cabinets with glass inserts are a good idea.
I clean houses for Pete's sake.Give me wood anytime.
And lets get back to nice neutral high low variegated carpets real people can walk on without trashing.
And printed lino that doesn't show the dirt.
And things that are kid- pet and dirty husband with greasy hands- proof.
We may be messy- but there are TONS of people out there- with NO messy issues who spend way more time than neccesary cleaning stuff-- that is pretty == but high maintenance.
We need to be able to spend time with our families- and freinds-doing things that really matter.
Cleaning should be something we do - to maintain- ( even us - when we get there) not a major activity of our lives.
Recently I became frustrated with the fact that all the newish cars have either light grey or light beige unholstry- WHAT IS THAT?
Give me some nice tweedy stuff you can spill soda on and doesnt show the pet hair.
Same with furniture.
Life is to be lived.
Doing the things we love.
The houses I have loved cleaning the most over the years- have been the very user freindly ones- set up for people to really be at home in and enjoy- not to be a showcase.
They got dirty and cleaned up great.
Not a lot chrome and glass or black laquer and for goodness sake- no showers that were as big as a closet and surrounded with clear glass that required that you squiggied them every time you used them!
Sure looked nice on a walk through when you were looking to buy a house though- or when you were thinking of remodleing.
Used to have clients that took me floor and carpet shopping with them- cause they knew that I knew what looked good, cleaned up well and lasted. I had been cleaning for them for years.
No berber carpet. Gets dirty and packed down.. And forget those big rattan rugs you see on the home improvement shows. They shed and are not nice for kids to sit on.
Hardwood and laminate is good- so is a good meutral printed lino- with not a lot of pockets for dirt- Textured Tile ok ( dont drop a can on it or it is toast) but forget marble floors. Horrible to clean and show every streakmark or drop of water.
Anyway- amazing at what is being touted as pretty and fashionable - but is hard a heck to maintain.
Wood -- well is so good for everything- fruniture, floors cabinets- an pretty easily be refinished-- shades dont have to match-- you can bleach- color wash- can lighten-- add color or tile accents to spruce up=-= and - it NEVER goes out of style. And God forbid it is a mess- you can alway white wash or antique or stipple or stencil--. and if all fails--- paint. And then strip later if you are so inclined and you get a wild hair( ummm have done that).
Simple glass mirrors and fixtures.
Make keeping your home as easy as possible and enjoy it. Life is hard enough .
I dont know who these designers are deisgning for-so many of the things they design are for people that have housekeepers.
Even in my fantasieis--I dont want a house I cant take care of myself-perhaps with a little help.
Good grief.
