"I'll go anywhere as long as it's forward." ~ David Livingstone
A good definition for not resisting change -- moving forward.

"Clearly, all fear has an element of resistance and a leaning away from the moment. Its dynamic is not unlike that of strong desire except that fear leans backward into the last safe moment while desire leans forward toward the next possibility of satisfaction. Each lacks presence.”--Stephen Levine, A Year to Live: How to Live This Year as If It Were Your Last
"What is needed, rather than running away or controlling or suppressing or any other resistance, is understanding fear; that means, watch it, learn about it, come directly into contact with it. We are to learn about fear, not how to escape from it."--Jiddu Krishnamurti

"I have a resistance to change in things that I feel comfortable with and that I'm used to."--Dennis Quaid
"Old ideas give way slowly; for they are more than abstract logical forms and categories. They are habits, predispositions, deeply ingrained attitudes of aversion and preference."--John Dewey
"Our dilemma is that we hate change and love it at the same time; what we really want is for things to remain the same but get better."--Sydney J. Harris

“Where there is power, there is resistance.” ~ Michel Foucault, The History of Sexuality 1: An Introduction
This quote may be about sexuality, but it got me thinking of applying it to other things. When we resist throwing something away, does it have power over us?

“Resistance cannot be seen, touched, heard, or smelled. But it can be felt.”--Steven Pressfield, The War of Art: Break Through the Blocks & Win Your Inner Creative Battles
"Feelings by themselves do not create problems. It is rather the tendency to interpret and analyze them. When out of habit you believe those interpretations, it is there that the suffering begins."--Mooji Lioness, I'm very glad you've enjoyed this month's quotes and found them helpful or inspirational. I really appreciate you taking the time to let my esteemed quote buddy, Mimi, and I know.

"Little men with little minds and little imaginations go through life in little ruts, smugly resisting all changes which would jar their little worlds." ~ Zig Ziglar
When i resist doing what's best for me, i am acting small minded, and maybe about 9 years old!

"I have brought myself, by long meditation, to the conviction that a human being with a settled purpose must accomplish it, and that nothing can resist a will which will stake even existence upon its fulfillment." ~ Benjamin Disraeli
So i guess, when i let demand resistance stop me from doing something, even something important (or maybe especially something important?), it's because i'm not coming at it with a settled purpose to accomplish it. That makes sense, considering my experience with weight loss. My inner resistance was that it isn't fair that other people get to eat fun stuff that i have to skip so i can lose weight. When i settled my purpose to get healthy and lose weight, that idea fell by the wayside, and i no longer resisted.

Resistance is futile! Love the Borg. Take that, piles and messes! Serendipity, I read your comment and immediately had this vision of the two big piles in my bedroom being assimilated into one big, Borglike cube. (I'm not sure whether that would make them more or less intimidating... ) Thank you for letting us know this month's quotes were helpful!

“Always say ‘Yes’ to the present moment. What could be more futile, more insane, than to create inner resistance to what already is? What could be more insane than to oppose life itself, which is now and always now? Surrender to what is…”--Eckhart Tolle
"One's life is not as fixed as one believes. Surprises may lie in store for you, the unexpected often tends to happen, sometimes bringing in its train the most delightful change in one's life or circumstances."--Elizabeth Aston, The Darcy Connection
"The world hates change, yet it is the only thing that has brought progress."--Charles Kettering

"A lot of people resist transition and therefore never allow themselves to enjoy who they are. Embrace the change, no matter what it is; once you do, you can learn about the new world you're in and take advantage of it." ~ Nikki Giovanni
Is that what we are really resisting when we resist cleaning our messes? Are we really resisting the person we are growing to be?
Dragon, you're turning me into a philosopher! Drat!
