"Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend." --Melodie Beatty Thank you for the Hopkins poem, and the quotes, Papermoon and Mimi

Thank you, Charis!
With arms outstretched I thank. With heart beating gratefully I love. With body in health I jump for joy. With spirit full I live. ~ Terri Guillemets

“I am grateful for what I am and have. My thanksgiving is perpetual. It is surprising how contented one can be with nothing definite - only a sense of existence. Well, anything for variety. I am ready to try this for the next ten thousand years, and exhaust it. How sweet to think of! my extremities well charred, and my intellectual part too, so that there is no danger of worm or rot for a long while. My breath is sweet to me. O how I laugh when I think of my vague indefinite riches. No run on my bank can drain it, for my wealth is not possession but enjoyment.”
~ Henry David Thoreau

This morning, i'm reminded to practice thankfulness. The washing machine agitates, and empties, but does not fill up on its own. Washing clothes means i have to haul water downstairs, many, many pots of water. Thinking about this, i'm grateful that i don't have to go down to the creek across the street with my clothes and bit of soap and a washboard, and wash clothes by hand in the same stream where i get my drinking water. That's the reality for many people, and some don't even have enough to wash. Instead, i have fresh water that flows like magic into the pots so i can carry it a few steps away, and the machine does the rest of the work, and i am grateful.

Thou hast given so much to me, Give one thing more, — a grateful heart; Not thankful when it pleaseth me, As if Thy blessings had spare days, But such a heart whose pulse may be Thy praise. ~ George Herbert
