It is no good getting furious if you get stuck. What I do is keep thinking about the problem but work on something else. Sometimes it is years before I see the way forward. In the case of information loss and black holes, it was 29 years.

"Just you work for humanity and never you mind if humanity seems to have left you behind." Hillaire Belloc
To me this means just persevere no matter what. No matter if people help or don't help, if they judge you, whatever. Just do my part and keep it rollin'.

"The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall." -- Nelson MandelaIt's easy to give up, especially when confronted by what seems like insurmountable obstacles. Many of us look around our homes and are overwhelmed by the clutter, dirt, and disorder we see. Others feel swamped not only by the disarray in their homes, but by other problems in their lives: ailing parents, unemployment, battles with addiction, troubled children, etc. Or the one I identify with most since my serious car accident, physical illness or injury. But on the days I become frustrated by all the things I can't do or get done, I tell myself I can't give up because if I do, I'll never make any progress. So for everyone who feels overwhelmed by the condition of their home or anything else in their lives, just make one resolution this New Year: Don't give up, no matter what. If you can keep that one, I bet you'll have a terrific year.Happy New Year!"Stubbornly persist, and you will find that the limits of your stubbornness go well beyond the stubbornness of your limits." -- Robert Brault"I may not be there yet, but I'm closer than I was yesterday." -- Author Unknown Thank you for this post.

warning: religious content
We used to have an old retired Jesuit priest at our parish. I believe he had worked most of his life in the arctic [or some other inhospitable place].
every single solitary time he presided at Mass, he added ONE LINE to the official liturgy: "and let us pray for the grace of perseverance".
Not charity or wisdom or piety or any other virtue. Just PERSEVERANCE.
something I need to remember today [feel like giving up on the health front.............]

"I frequently-regularly-often trip while reaching for my high ideals. Then I giggle, or cry, and get back up." ~ Erika Harris
Script, laugh if you can, cry if you must, but give up -- never. There is a solution out there. You keep looking, and i will keep praying, until you find it. You are too precious of a person for us to give you up without a huge fight.

- "Whatever your truth is, you have to stick with it."-- Cornelius Dupree, Jr. January 4, 2011 Spoken upon being exonerated after 30 years ... DNA evidence just proved him innocent. He had refused to plead "guilty" because he was innocent. He was misidentified. He was sentenced to 75 years in prison. Dupree was convicted and spent the next three decades appealing. The Court of Criminal Appeals turned him down three times. They kept trying to make him acknowledge and apologize for the horrific crime he'd been accused of. He refused because he didn't do it. He served 30 years before he paroled. While he was on parole, DNA evidence proved him innocent. Under the Tim Cole Compensation Act of Texas, the strongest compensation legislation in the United States, Dupree is entitled to $80,000 for every year in prison, which amounts to $2.4 million plus a lifetime annuity. The money can be received in a lump sum and is not subject to federal income tax. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cornelius_Dupreewww.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5hKQSd5lhClSgTQs8fsc2LpqpCHRA?docId=07430a4990614b18bf35c87010824b9b-

Ok, I don't know HOW much time I have now spent reading quotes when I could have gotten something done... ... I read the first 14 or so pages and then realized that I could be here FOREVER so I skipped and read the last few... ... There were some great ones!! Ok, here are a few... Nothing says I love you like clean underwear... Flylady (I may be paraphrasing, but I don't think so...) Everybody falls; it's how you get up that matters. Raising teenagers is like trying to nail jello to the wall. My life is like being on a tilt-a-whirl and trying to make a picture on an etch-a-sketch... And regarding ADD which I personally suffer from and enjoy the hell out of depending on the day: I may look like I'm on speed, but I'm not... and if I were, then I wouldn't look like I was anymore... Said by my 6 y.o. son in an effort to be mean to me as he stormed off because I wouldn't let him have whatever it was he wanted, "Mom, you are surrounded by MORONS!!" Those who matter don't mind, and those who mind don't matter. Insanity is the act of doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result... NO! For me, insanity is the act of NOT doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.... just a different take on that classic quote to make you remember routines and persistence are good friends to have... ok stopping now...

"Perseverance is not a long race; it is many short races one after another." ~ Walter Elliott, The Spiritual Life
Deetermined, thanks for the quotes, and the laugh of the morning. And yes, FlyLady uses that and similar. She will tell you nothing says i love you like clean underwear, or plenty of toilet tissue in the bathroom, or a clean toilet when you have to be sick in it, or any number of things.
