Hi friends I`ve been lurking around for a couple of weeks...reading and looking around the forums. You guys are so full of love and support...I have a feeling of finding a long lost friend...thanks so much to you all. As to me.. been living in chaos for years now...it fits quite nicely into me having a touch of social anxiety problems too. I`ve got real good at hiding it though...if strangers have to visit I get the step ladders out and pots of paint and tell `em all I`m decorating...haahaa...well at least I believe it Anyway I have started to do stuff...things are being thrown away...and I have started to renovate... Its not easy for me and the motivation comes and goes...but because of you lot I know I´ll do it. Words fail me...this site and its members are now a part of my life. Thanks so much to you all for being around and giving me the inspiration and strength. I hope I can give something back...I owe you all so much.

Welcome, druff! I'm just starting out too but am already seeing some progress thanks to the support and ideas from this board.
I think the biggest lesson I'm learning is that I don't need to be perfect every day. If I even do one small thing to improve my life, then I'm better off than I was the day before.
I work 12 hour shifts and have generally let things slide on my work days because I'm so tired when I get home. However, I have made myself at least take the trash out every day. I've found that when the wastebaskets are empty, trash doesn't pile up elsewhere that day. So that's nothing more than one trash bag per day--it takes me a few minutes and makes me feel better to get it out of the house.
I concentrate on trying to do more on my days off--if I can't get a lot accomplished, I at least try to maintain what I've already done. For me, it's all about accomplishing the baby steps first. By setting more realistic goals, i'm not getting burned out easily and giving up. I needed to realize that this is more than a one day project and set a pace that I can maintain for good.

So glad to meet you. Sounds like you are already doing better. The support here is pretty great, isn't it? I feel so much better (been here about 2 years) I don't have to use excuses anymore. I can invite good friends over. The mess is better and worse, 3 steps forward, and 2 back, but I don't feel the shame. Welcome!

Ahh, the old drop cloth trick! Been there, done that, have now got people comiserating about how my reno is not done yet. It isn't, by the way, ! Welcome, nice to met ya, great start. And even when motivation fails, it doesn't take away from the stuff you did. I always feel like backsliding a bit cancels all the good stuff, but it doesn't. And who knows, one day you might just paint the hall...

Welcome, druff. Due to problems which have now been solved, I once had to leave the previous board for almost a year, and things got awful. You are right that the support here is invaluable. You will make a wonderful contribution, I am sure. It is the mutual support of all of us getting out of similar situations that makes this place special. messymimi

Hello druff, Oh yeah, those familiar " I am painting, doing a big clean up, tearing up the carpets, the storm got in" ones. Been there, got the T-shirt, as they say. I have even, with tradespersons (with fingers crossed behind my back) , done the "This is my rental property, this is how the tenant from hell left it!" one as well.
