Hello Everyone! I just joined, have read one post, poked around the lists and already I feel better. I've always known there are others 'out there' like me but I've never seen such a collection all in one place! I get regular messages from the FLYlady and they've been helping, I've made some small strides. For the first time in 2.5 years, I can see clean spots the living room floor. And by clean spots, I mean areas with no clutter, not that they're actually 'clean' So many times I've felt ready to finally get my act together, only to fall down again. And again. But I just read a quote with the gist being it's OK to fall, so long as you don't stay down. So I guess I'll get my sorry butt up and try again. I think I'm finally ready to acknowledge this will be hard work and baby steps will be best. I'm not really a patient person (what a huge understatement!) so babysteps are hard for me but all my info gathering says the same thing - baby steps and habits are what will get me out and help keep me out. I've always been pretty organized but not necessarily disciplined. It's kinda funny to me that my piles of crap are organized piles of crap. Sorted by either color, size, relevance, whatever. And I'm laughing to myself as I write this ... if that isn't perfectionism, I don't know what is! I've denied for years I'm a perfectionist, but there it is, clear as day!! It's amazing to me how many of us in this boat have the same emotional scars. Abuse, poor self esteem ... sorry, guess I'm rambling. I just wanted to introduce myself and say thanks. It probably doesn't occur to many of you that just by your being on the site, it helps people like me. People who need help but are loathe to admit it, let alone ask for it! Thanks, looking forward to meeting you around the boards. [ font=Comic Sans MS]Kathi

:-*Welcome klutterkathi, from one newbie to another. I have also found inspiration here. You mentioned baby steps and I agree they are best for some of us. Those baby steps can feel mighty nice when they add up to on big step! I have taken a few lately and I am feeling better already!

Welcome, klutterkathi! S.O.S. is a great place with great people who are very supportive. You are totally right about babysteps being the answer (sigh, I'm not very patient with babysteps either). Actually, the progress I have made is the result of babysteps, so keep on chugging along!!

Welcome, clutterkathi! I think you hit the nail on the head with self discipline and baby steps being the way to go. i've never been much on self discipline, and that is where I fall down every time. this group helps so much with that, and people cheer you on no matter how small the accomplishments, and especially if you need a hand up. I've never found that anywhere else. Baby steps help with the sense of overwhelm and feeling there's just too much to do and you don't know where to start, because they get us started! You're going to love these boards. I love listzilla because it gets me going!

Welcome, Kathi! I'm glad that you found us! And whether you babystep your way out of the mess, or do occasionally cleaning spurts with babysteps in between, just keep moving and posting. It will get better!
