in my post above, the items coded and didn't work for me when inserted into an unnumbered list (those are not in the dropdown menu). The checkmark (from the dropdown menu) didn't go where i had my cursor within that list (it was supposed to be at start of item #3).

The only problem I encountered with smilies is when I want to make a space right after a smilie, I end up deleting it. (as in the instances where I want to insert a word or leave a space between a smily) There must be some way to avoid that, but haven't figured out yet how. The technique I use is add the space before I add the smiley. Another method is to insert the smiley, then use the arrow key to move the cursor off the top of the smiley. in my post above, the items coded and didn't work for me when inserted into an unnumbered list The checkmark didn't go where i had my cursor within that list (it was supposed to be at start of item #3). Lists are a headache, Lion. They seem prone to formatting problems. Going back into your post, I was able to drag and drop it where I wanted it. Removing and reinserting it from scratch worked, so I was unable to duplicate that problem.

Lists are a headache, Lion. They seem prone to formatting problems. Going back into your post, I was able to drag and drop it where I wanted it. Removing and reinserting it from scratch worked, so I was unable to duplicate that problem. I couldn't get the squiggle-mouth smiley and heart smiley to work -- within a list. They are coded in emoticon-ese -- (instead of the double-colons on each side of a word). The only way i could make them work was to post them outside the list. submit the post. Then hold my cursor over the posted image and rightclick to get its URL ... and then ... go back and edit my post to insert the image into the list with the image URL. Edit to add. Yes i know you need to keep those in emoticon-ese, for many reasons. I guess I'll just keep using my workaround.

Done in Visual by creating the list, putting the cursor where I wanted it, and then clicking on the emoticon. I will test it in BBCode...
