It shows fine when used in text, but is coming out as a colon when used as a spacer. In the above quote, I used the tilde key, not colons as it shows. 3) If you received an error message, what did it say?4) What do you think should have happened instead?Where the long list of colons showed in the quote above should have been tildes. 5) Can you reproduce this on every pageview? 6) What browser, version, and operating system are you using?I am using Windows 7 & Chrome. 7) Please attach a screen shot (JPG or PNG -- not GIF or BMP) if it is relevant.

I think I found the solution, or rather a work-around, Step.
When you want to use the tilde key repetatively as a spacer, you're going to have to type your entries into the BBCode box and post from there. If you move to the Visual box before posting, the code changes those consecutive tildes to colons.
I have searched the ProBoards Support forum and haven't found this reported as a problem as yet, and I tried it on the ProBoards Support board and the tilde works properly there. So it's something to do with our forums. Let's see if Celeste has any idea of a fix, or if we have to submit it to ProBoards.
ETA: Here is the link to where I tried it out on the ProBoards Support Boards.

I checked censored words to see if there was something errant there, but nothing, eagle. Sounds like a report for Support is in our future. Do you want to do it since you did the experimenting?

Yes, I will do the report to PB.

Testing with IE9 in Visual:
1. ~ 2. :: 3. ::~
Visual again without the numbers using IE 9:
:::::::::::::: consecutive tildes
Hmm, it seems to be fine from IE9 in Visual mode. Will try again from BBCode.
Testing with IE 9 using BBCode entry box:
:::::::::: consecutive tildes
Aha! It's Chrome specific. I should test it in FireFox before I complete that test for PB.
Trying again in BBCode mode:
::::::::::15 minute intervals
All these tests were conducted in Chrome on Vista.
•Chrome 25.0.1364.152m
Windows Vista Home Premium
Visual entry box
::::::::::::consecutive tildes were entered on this line & posted from Visual
FireFox 19.0.2 Visual entry box: ::::::::::consecutive tildes were entered on this line & posted from Visual ::::::::::::::consecutive tildes were entered on this line & posted from BBCode
Firefox 16.0.2
So it's not just Chrome! It's Fire Fox, too. Hmmm.
Okay, I have the data I need to submit the report to ProBoards.

Thanks for taking the time to tinker with my tilde, eagle! (Of course, if I knew how to indent block appropriately, I wouldn't be going tilde crazy.)

(Of course, if I knew how to indent block appropriately, I wouldn't be going tilde crazy.) Using the Visual editor, just add spaces. It will keep them now.

Hi earlene, I first tested this on my own testing forum, and was unable to reproduce. I then went and visited your forum, and was able to reproduce without a problem. After some poking around, I disabled your plugins and tried posting again. The tilde appeared as it should. One of your plugins is causing the tilde to be converted for some reason. I would recommend disabling all of your plugins, and re-enabling them one-by-one until you find the culprit, and then let the relevant plugin creator know.
Celeste, it looks like a plug-in here on SOS that is the problem, per Michael Stone at PB Support. See this post. Sorry to give you one more thing to add your To-Do list!

I'm not able to reproduce it now in Firefox 19.0.2/Windows 7 or Chrome 25.0.1364.172 m/Windows 7. It is possible that Michael Stone, in turning the plugins on and off, was able to reset it somehow. Would the rest of you try it for confirmation, please?

Woooo, it's working great for me now in Windows 7, Chrome! ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~ Yep, as long as I keep it in BBCode, & don't switch back to visual before posting.

Trying again in BBCode mode:
::::::::::15 minute intervals
Chrome, Vista Visual: ::::::::::::
Didn't work in Chrome in Visual mode above.
Now: Chrome, Vista
BBCode: ::::::::::::~
So in Chrome on Vista, it's a problem still. Sigh

Pickles! Still a problems for Vista. Pain in the neck.
Of course, this isn't something I use, either, but still. It's bound to come up some time again.
But, I agree, this is a back burner item.

Unfortunately, I can't test the plugins to which is the troublemaker if I can't tell when it is working and when it isn't. This may mean you'll have to go through them and report back, eagle. I'll give you more information on that shortly.

I forgot to report that we did test the plug-ins and we have chosen to keep the plug-in that is causing this. (The Smilies Drop-down plug-in, which we feel is far more important than one character, the poor little tilde)
There is a work-around for those of you who want to use the tilde at the beginning of a line of text:
Do your entry using the BBCode editor, as it will code properly. Do not switch to visual first, as it will compromise the code. If you need to edit the post, use BBCode and not Visual, for the same reason.
