To find your private message box, look at top of screen after you've logged in. It says "Hey Username, you have X# of messages, and X# are new." If you click on the number of messages, it will take you to your PM mailbox. If you are reading a message from someone, you will see the top of it looking like this: Notice that I have circled in red near the middle ... the word "inbox". Notice two things I have circled in red on the right: The one on the far right says "Preferences". The other one (near the right) says "outbox". If you click on "inbox", you see list of your received messages. If you click on "outbox", you see list of your sent messages. If you click on "preferences" ... it sends you to your "preferences for private messaging". You can say yes or no if you want a notification to go to your ordinary email account that you've received a PM here on this board. You can say yes or no if you want a notice to pop up on your screen to tell you you have a P.M.

Thanks for the tips, Lioness! My main gripe about private messages is, why can't I have a copy of the message I sent in my own Inbox? When people reply, there's no record of the original message I sent! I think that sort of sucks! (This makes me grumpy.) Little_Ninja

- Ninja, There isn't a copy of what you sent underneath their reply. But there IS a copy of what you sent in your OUTBOX.
Look at my directions above and you'll see how to get to your outbox.
It's not great, but at least there is SOME way to have a record of what we've said to whom.
But yes, it would be nice if one could have a single thread of messages sent back and forth between oneself and someone else ... to refer to easily. It's not convenient to have to switch over to the outbox to figure out what you've previously said to someone.
Oh well, I am grateful that there is an outbox. That's something, anyhow. _

- Oh... I realized that when you reply to someone else's PM, you can quote their message when replying to them. That way it makes it easier for them to see what you are replying to. However, if someone replies to your message, and they don't quote you, you can't tell what they are replying to, until you check your "outbox" and read your past outgoing messages. --- Update, according to what I've read on the proboards support blog, the next version of Proboards will allow private messages to be all on one thread. This will be on Version 5 of Proboards. blog.proboards.com/2008/03/inside-version-5-more-new-features.htmlBut they are still creating Version 5 and have no idea when it will be released. -
