Recycled 15 papers.
I am so bogged down with so much paper junk mail. I have a post office box. For the last 2 months or so, I sort through my mail right at the post office and dump almost all the junk mail into the post office recycling bin. I do take a little bit of it with me to read, especially catalogs I haven't seen before. The volume of junk mail and catalogs I receive greatly increase at the end of November, no doubt to try to gain from Christmas spending.
I'll add some more to this post later. Have to go do something right now.
I have been emailing the unwanted catalog companies and unwanted solicitations, one by one. But this takes a lot of time and I am not sure they will respect my request. So a few days ago, I found a few free online services that supposedly have one removed from all junk mail mailing lists. We'll see if that works. I am concerned that I am in reality just signing up on yet another junk mail list. Then I will receive even more.
Not only am I bothered with all this unwanted mail from a recovering clutterer standpoint. It also distresses my environmental soul. Forests are being stripped to make paper for mass mailings to people who don't even want the crap. More often than not, the junk mail doesn't even get recycled. It goes straight into the landfill, unopened.

Paper is my biggest problem! It plagues my life and fills bags and boxes that never seem to end. I find receipts and things from 10 years ago all the time. Sometimes the receipts are so old that they are faded and you can't read them anymore.
I look forward to participating in this thread, I could really use the encouragement to deal with my paper in a timely manner. I usually let it build up for years and only deal with it when I crisis clean every few years when I think that the paper piles could cause me to get evicted.

welcome qgirl, feel free to use this thread in whatever way helps you with the paper clutter some people do minutes each day, others work their way through specific paper clutter tasks, the main thing is trying to do a bit each day and to keep up with the new paper coming in, so just start with whatever feels easiest for you. today i sorted my mail as soon as Dh bought it in, Had 10 letters, 2 catalogues and two parcels put parcel contents away and tossed the packaging filed two bills for mum on the clipboard filed bank statements from accounts that I closed a few weeks ago filed other financial papers tossed out 10 envelopes and two catalogues I really have noticed just how much I do not want to deal with the mail each night, I honestly don't think I'd do it if I didn't know I need to post here, BUT , it is starting to make a difference! I've now got all the obvious paper clutter in my office sorted, still have one filing cabinet to work through and the shredding to do. I've put my sewing things in the office where a lot of the paper rubbish was taking up room, so I can see progress!

I've now got all the obvious paper clutter in my office sorted Congratulations! Welcome whatgirl! Louie already wrote it is good to deal with the daily stuff. Some here use the "today plus"-method, meaning: deal with today's paper plus a bit of the backlog. Just set your own rules and change them if they don't serve you any longer. I do this all the time -- that's okay as long as I'm making progress. Today: 10 papers and a newspaper.

Thank you for the kind welcome! I am looking forward to having a place where I can talk about my problem with paper with people who aren't going to look at me like I am crazy or sad. None of my friends or previous boyfriends could ever wrap their head around why I have been unable to keep a clean home that isn't an embarrassment. I guess it is no surprise that I am single and live alone.
The "today plus" method is a really good idea! I would have never thought of that in a million years. What I love is that it won't overwhelm me or trigger my anxiety if I only have to deal with today's paper plus one backlog. It is something that I can do. I will try this!

today I had just one piece of mail - put it in the 'to do' pile as I have to fill out a form, tossed the envelope. I also tossed out a stack of old newspapers today. I didn't do any decluttering of my files as I hurt my back today and I'm laying flat, usually takes a couple of days to come good. - -I found this quote today " paper clutter is no more than postponed decisions" Barabara Hemphill- I think that describes it really well for me, I constantly have put paper aside telling myself I'll do it later, and then didn't do it. good thing is that is changing! keep going everyone! every little bit helps

Sorry to hear about your back, Louie. Put 10 papers to recycling. I stopped after reaching my goal of 10 per day -- too many other things to do, but I do not want to stop getting rid of paper!

Another 10 papers from binders to recycling.
Opened mail and noted date in calendar when I have to pay the bill. Tossed a newspaper.

The newspaper came today (a weekly) and after I read it and read excerpts to DH, he suggested that I save it for a day or two to give to his brother. That's fine as long as it is out of here. All sale inserts will go into trash tonight along with some junk mail.

Recycled 200 papers and cardboard yesterday. That may sound like a lot. But actually what I am doing is daily gathering up a few papers. When I get an amount of paper, plastic, and bottles so that it's worth going to the recycling center, then I go. So 200 papers may take 1-2 weeks to gather up.
