I thought I would make one more post here to say that I've stopped counting individual items for now, since I went past my 2014 goal with my paper purge this summer--it was REALLY helpful to me to count during my summer goal purges because it was concrete evidence that I was working and I found that motivating! But, for fall I'm counting two things--books in and out by week, in an attempt to balance incoming with outgoing--and hours for my book job, and I don't want to bog myself down with counting. I had thrown a few things away, then thought OH NO I DIDN'T COUNT THEM....and realized that at this point in the year counting will be more of a distraction than a help, so I've stopped. I'll see how I'm doing in January, I'll probably start up again then. Good luck to everyone on making your purging goals for 2014! Diane

dtesposito I'm not counting either, just listing, so feel free to still report what you toss, without counting if you find that helpful. Today I got rid of a pair of socks.

I noticed I have forgot to report I have put several clothing items in the donation box. I am propably going to take the donations soon. I also have several clothing items in mind to either toss or donate in the near future, but more about them when I actually do do it.

I'm new here, so I'm jumping in way late, but it would be fun to keep track of what I could do from now until the end of the year. This weekend's toss/donate: 1. Weird looking candle/lamp thing that we NEVER use (donate) 2. Paper clutter from DD's desk (old origami projects that she didn't love, random drawings that she disliked, etc.) (toss) 3. Shoebox from DD's new sneakers (recycle) 4. DH's old sneakers (decades old - with his blessing) (toss)

Old Kong doggy toy (the rubber started to crumble). Welcome lyerin, it's never too late to join! If counting gives you motivation, many count every paper and small item too.

1. Weird looking candle/lamp thing that we NEVER use (donate) 2. Paper clutter from DD's desk (old origami projects that she didn't love, random drawings that she disliked, etc.) (toss) 3. Shoebox from DD's new sneakers (recycle) 4. DH's old sneakers (decades old - with his blessing) (toss) UPDATE: 5. - 16. Donate old toys from toybox that DS no longer loves/plays with 17. - 27. Toss broken/undonatable toys from toybox that are not useable 28. - 29. Two wooden spoons from drawer in kitchen donated 30. Rusted metal spoon from drawer in kitchen tossed 31. Rusted metal can opener from drawer in kitchen tossed 32. Wooden pasta fork from drawer in kitchen tossed (cracked) 33. Pasta timer from drawer in kitchen donated (I have no idea why we had this thing) 34. - 35. Two pasta measurers from drawer in kitchen tossed (again, why did we have those) 36. Pie server (bent) from drawer in kitchen tossed 37. Pie cloth from drawer in kitchen tossed 38. Gross old 1/4 cup measuerer from drawer in kitchen tossed 39. Coffee measuerer from drawer in kitchen tossed (hello? Unitasker!) 40. Extra plastic scraper for George Foreman grill from drawer in kitchen donated (we don't need 2). I was really not super motivated to move around this weekend, but I got one drawer in the kitchen cleared out, and I cleaned out our son's toy box, which was not a small job. I probably donated/tossed more than I listed above from there, but I didn't want to stop and count. Now everything is grouped together in plastic bags and put in the toybox neatly. I was happy that all of his big action figures now fit inside the toybox instead of standing on the top. The only thing on the top of the toybox is a big dinosaur toy that won't fit anywhere else. Much neater looking and way easier to pick up at night. I have a picture of the stuff I donated today at the Salvation Army, but I can't figure out how to upload it.

lyerin I loved reading the kitchen drawer list! I tossed 1 bag of vegetables in my fridge. I did a "don't let perfect be the enemy of progress" very quick fridge shelf and door clean with a bottle of windex.
