bittyboo, it is a set of 6 cups with soucers, a teapot, sugar bowl and a little milk can. I understand. In the US, we call that a tea service. (Or at least that's what it's called where I live.) We have those here, too, but you're more likely to find a coffee service, which is the same thing, except it has a fancy coffee pot instead of a tea pot. When you said "china,'" I pictured a dinner service, which has dinner plates, salad plates, bowls, cups, saucers, etc. In other words, a set of dishes with pieces that could easily be used by one person. I agree that daily use of a tea service wouldn't be practical. Just one of those cases where words and phrases have different meanings depending on where you live.

Or if you are a native speaker or not So my flowery set is a tea service. Actually this is what we call it in my language too. I learned something from you, bittybooWe also have a set that we would call a desert service - dessert plates, cups with saucers and bowls - and a little teapot I am putting on my wish list has the same decor.

I also thought "place settings" of china. That would probably be because while I have tea pots, the only thing I have that would approximate this is a silver "tea service," we call it here. And of course it includes a coffee pot.
Also, here (southeastern US), hardly anyone drinks hot tea. Everyone drinks iced tea, which is typically served from a large pitcher. I am something of an anomaly, being a drinker of hot tea. And TBH, I just started about 15 years ago, to replace coffee as my drug of choice. Here, everyone typically drinks coffee or iced tea, although in the past 15 years or so, hot tea, especially green or herbal tea, has become something of a popular trend among savvy and "cool" adults.

Bought a pair of jeans today, one early christmas present (a book for my mum) and some basics (a jar of jam, tooth brush, face mask, hair conditioner). My friend gave me a good sized cotton shopping bag as a thank you for something I have done for her.
P.S. Also I have seen the teapot I dreamed about last week and decided against buying it. It was just a momentary urge and I have great one already, haven't I? Glad I resisted.

It was just a momentary urge and I have great one already, haven't I? Glad I resisted. I'm also glad you resisted! I have found that frequently I will fall in love with something and just have to have it. If I resist - six months later I will find that I really don't care that much about it! Guess I'm fickle.

Yes, it happens to me as well, dayeanu. Only sometimes it is hard to resist, especially if I am with someone who shops at that time.

Think this is a related concept: I've actively started USING things that I overspent on within the last, oh, decade or so, which I've been 'saving' and and guilting myself over ever since.
Includes a nightie and art supplies.
