i've plodded through with gutting and itemising most every area of my home, though i didn't post it all. i've come to the realisation that i'm actually missing some things that would be helpful and hanging onto other things since i don't have the more useful things.. funny how that works... the last room is my scary doom room. the room itself isn't that dirty. but it is -packed- with stuff. and very little of it is out and out trash, which would make just tossing a bunch of stuff easy.. so here's my thread for slowly, ever so slowly working through my personal room of doom. we'll see if i can keep this up and get through it, eh? or if the thread dies a sad and sputtering death due to my neglect... not sure how it will work out. but at least i'll make some progress hopefully, which is far better than none..... this is the link to the pic of time lapse photos of doomroom sigh takeonestepatatime.proboards80.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=pics&thread=2495&page=1

I tackled my Room of Doom one bit at a time. Inside that monster was beautiful CLEAR SPACE waiting to emerge. Even now, the chaos regularly creeps back so eternal vigilance is my watchword. ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/1879832/images/5W4UEP3N1aQXkhreE2zR.gif)

My son's room was the Room of Doom, we were using it for storage. The more I got rid of, the free-er I felt. And the more I started being able to see categories and I was able to figure out where things go, and actually putting them there. It was so liberating! I hope you will find the same thing as you start on your room. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/1879832/images/GuBQQkiwyXxnHbJKesLq.gif)

thank you platypus and blackswan, appreciate the cheering on.. don't think there's going to be clear space when i'm done ![lol](//storage.proboards.com/1879832/images/70gKR226h9rBn4CaD0Tc.gif) i have a feeling it'll still be pretty crowded. but it would be nice to be able to walk across the silly room. i seriously can barely even enter it right now.. but i did sort of manage to barely enter it.. and i tossed 3/4ths of a garbage bag full of papers.. couldn't deal with shredding them. i just start sobbing and missing mom. so i filled the garbage bag 3/4ths full and dumped a ferret litter pan on top of it.. pretty sure no one will dig through it for a ssn or banking info after that. if they do. they are desperate and probably seriously need the identity at this point

Ah yes, the doom room. I have one as well. I am going to live vicariously through you as I will not be up to that room for a bit. I will use your victories to spur me on! Of my entire house it is the only room that regularly defeats me. I have started it many, many times. So I am not starting it again until I have the time and wherewithall to finish it.
Keep it up!!!! You are gonna have an entire room to do whatever you want when you are all done! So what are the plans for it? Crafts? Spare bedroom? Office?

underneath all the junk there's the bones of uhm what we'd meant for the room.. mancreature has about half and i have about half... he has his gaming puter in there and instruments and recording equipment, i have my sewing and crafting stuff and desk space where once upon a time i meant to do homework, rather than in bed .....

Wont it be wonderful to be using it as you intended? My doomroom is the computer/entertainment room. I have somewhere in here a leather couch sleeper bed, pictures for the walls, and books. On top of all that is who knows what. I keep imagining sitting in here on my couch and reading or knitting by the big window. For now it is my dream but one day it will be my reality. I am so looking forward to your updates on your progress in the room.

i guess it will be way better once it's useable but it feels like a seriously horrible long slog right now... it's saturday and so far today i've filled a garbage can and a very large box with papers to go away... i have a scaryscary table of papers that all need to be filed. evil evil evil evil. x2 table with probably a 2 foot stack of papers to deal with that don't appear to be pure rubbish.
i think i'll do a series of time lapse photos to post to the pic forum haha

today i've taken out 2 bags of trash papers from this room, and a huge cardboard box of more papers
i presorted the evil stack that was on the table so i can file them my papers household papers mom's papers recipes memento style papers fun stuff to do papers...
at least now i have discrete and managable piles to deal with and i know WHERE they get filed.. uhguhguhg
took out another itty bitty grocery bag of papers and tossed

removed 1 grocery sack of papers from room.. this was from going through filing cabinet and tossing/shredded outdated papers
went through papers that need to be filed and sorted the categories into more categories.. depressing. tiring. i want to avoid it so i do it as slowly and nonproductively as possible.. amazing what your brain tells ya is a good way to go about dealing/notdealing with something

Hi DJ. You are doing great with this Doom room. You and me both, sluggin' thru this paper h*ll. Must do it, but don't like it. I have tons more paper in my EAting Area that I am determined to get thru. I am also looking for a couple important items. I know it is especially depressing for you, but your gettin' thru it, DJ. CD ![:-X](//storage.proboards.com/1879832/images/xitP0jPdwJqnxUGMSshO.gif)

You are inspiring me to get to that never-ending-paper-pile of mine.
Sooner or later, it will get done.

well, it didn't make a huge visual impact but it was something on the mental todo list- went through a medium sized plastic tub -filled- to the brim almost uncloseable with jewelry... separated out necklaces, bracelets, rings, earrings.. most of this stuff was mom's... i tossed the stuff i honestly thought was fugly and never saw her wear.. some of it i still don't really care for but have memories of her wearing and am not ready to get rid of at the moment... incorporated it into my own, and at least organised, jewelry hoard. when i assimilate her belongings into my own it becomes easier to dispose of them later if they really aren't to my taste.. some of them i realise i will never use/wear/want but am very sentimental about and those things are being accumulated in a storage tote right now... the goal is to keep it a totesized hoard of mom memorabilia.. and to keep an eye out for an antique trunk that'd make a better long term storage option.
long post for one small to middlin sized box. but i did it at least.
