When watching people juggle, most start by getting a rhythm down with 2 to 3 balls, and then add more as they get more skilled. I decided to try that analogy when it comes to maintenance. I started last month by sweeping and mopping, adding more rooms each week until I swept and mopped all the floors. I got my plumbing overhaul last week, and since then I have done 6 loads of laundry and one load of dishes. So now I plan to sweep every week, mop twice a month, do one load of laundry per week (more if I need to separate colors), and do my dishes as I use them. So far so good. I hope I am better at maintenance than I have been at juggling. I never got past juggling 2 balls, and even that took a lot of effort.

i like your analogy! and how very truthful it is! i've started out with keeping the main floor (including kitchen, living room, dining room, entryway and a hallway that is kinda part of the dining room) picked up. and most days, in addition to carting kids to this and that, feeding/bathing/diapering the young kiddos, is all i can manage. lately i have been trying to add on keeping the upstairs picked up. i have noticed a trend in my listzilla of how i get certain things done every day, and then i stop. but, going backwards, i bet you could see the gradual adding on of things. (first keeping just the dining room clean, then add the entry, etc). thanks for the concept!

Yes, I think that you are on to something, SueD! And what I need to remember is that when I drop the juggling ball(s), the way to learn to juggle is to pick them up and try again!

Agreed. I am about as good at juggling, as I am at maintenance.
