I got scoops at the dollar store that were just *too* cheap and flimsy. I would like one (or four) with smaller holes, too. When I vacuum every day, the sweeping doesn't really matter. I just haven't been good with that lately.

I always dumped my litter on garbage day! I had no idea you were supposed to leave it - but obviously that's the practical aspect of clumping litter. DUH! I feel silly I know! Me,,too!!

Even funnier I used to buy non clump litter and use just a little in and then dump it daily!! That turned out to be not so cheap and even more work! But prior to this go,round that was the best I ever did it keeping it fairly clean.

Clumping litter will get all stinky if you don't scoop for a long time. If I keep up with the scooping, I never have to dump the whole pan. Sometimes I let it get really low and then dump it and give the pan a bath. But keeping up with it really saves on litter cost.

Adding the extra litter really helped! After I scooped this morning (by just removing the soiled litter) the remaining litter is as fresh as it was when I added it. It's pristine! Any cat would *love* to mess in it, ha. I'm so glad I learned that I wasn't giving my cat a deep enough toilet, because this is a huge improvement. Thanks again cleanbee - special thanks from my cat, poor girl, who was putting up with 2" for most of her life.

I like to keep three or four inches in there. The stuff I read online said that some cats object to having it too deep, though. If you have covers, then deep litter gives them less room.
I like to have extra, clean litter sitting around to dump on top of any fresh poo that wasn't buried. Then give it half an hour before scooping it. But usually I'm just barely keeping up with supplies, and a bucket of litter between five boxes … there's usually nothing left over when I buy a 20-pound bucket.
DH expresses shock and dismay when I stock up on necessities, even a little. "You're going hog-wild!" he says. "I thought we just bought that two seconds ago." Or, "I just got you a huge thing of that," when he bought ten pounds a week ago. Seems like necessities are a personal affront to him. But he "deserves" to fritter away $5, $10, or $20 a day at the convenience store for whatever treat he wants NOW. I swear he is mentally 12 years old.
Whoops. Went on a little OT rant, there.

My issue right now is that I'm having a hard time finding my favorite litter, which is the Purina Maxx multi-cat in the large bag. I can find those tiny pails everywhere, but it's not the same stuff. Darn it. I had to train my DH to only buy items when they're on sale, lmao! Now he's a pro, and will automatically add things to the shopping cart if he sees a staple at a good price. I had to rein him in last week, because I didn't want a repeat of the week before, when I had to use my credit card instead of cash, since all those sales added up to more cash than I had. Thankfully this site got me motivated to clear out under the sink in the bathroom, or I'd never have had enough room to store all that toilet paper going for half price! I get frustrated at all those tiny expenses too, lara! A coffee here, a bag of chips there, sweets...hey, we could be eating steak with that money - so why am I waiting for steak to go on sale? Duh! ETA: just checked the Purina site, to make sure that litter is still in production. HA, it's non-scooping! I'm so silly! Nobody is reordering it, because everyone else in town has figured out the benefits of daily scooping? Oh well, perfect timing for me, since I have a small pail of the scoopable on hand. That's hilarious!

Scooped n swept. I read the info on the linked site that Cleanbee provided ( Thanks Cleanbee!) Though I don't currently have any problems, I have/will make some changes after reading all this 1) will switch to unscented litter ( will look for multicat unscented version of World's Best, or try Elsey's) 2) have added depth to litter to make it approx. 4 inches deep to help eliminate that "problem corner" where the litter sticks.

yrwelcome - I like it deep enough that it never sticks to the bottom. And I will tip it to reveal the bottom, and then shake some baking soda in there, and then do it the other way.

We went food shopping today, and I found a little tiny dustpan and brush. So that's gonna go in the litter basket with the scoop, and now I can scoop AND sweep like the big girls. We got a 35 pound bucket of litter, and I actually got DH to do the litter boxes! First I just asked him to pour some of it out until it was lighter, and then I just asked if he'd do them, and he did. He hasn't done them in a long time, and it's not like they were BAD. I'm going to try that kitty litter! Thanks for the link!

aa thanks for the recommendation on the litter lifter. I'll see if I can track one down! yrwelcome. I've been using dr elseys cat attract litter, that's the only dr elseys variety I can find at my local pet stores (petco and petsmart). It's unscented. I think the 40 lb bag is 27.99? It's been lasting at least 4 months, but really I haven't kept track! And there's usually a dollar off coupon Inside the bag for your next purchase.

Awesome - thanks aa! Nothing like a good sale, and I do need to find a new brand. I don't like the Maxx in the tub, for some reason. Smell? IDK, maybe price? Extremely wasteful plastic tub, maybe???
