Lara, I did that at: www.tickerfactory.comThen I went to my profile, and under "personal" I cut & pasted it in my signature box too - so now it's in this thread twice. I checked to see if the link worked, and it brought me to the one I just did, but don't ask me why. I'm not very computer savvy, so getting the ticker to work *at all* is a huge accomplishment for me, .

Okay, this just might be the year I get a ticker. I love seeing them but always think it's too much trouble to update. I'm going to try one. But not today.

Diane, it's actually *really* simple to update them: you just 'click' on your ticker, log in with your password, and update the count. Believe me, if there was anything at all difficult about it, I'd be the first to know, lmao.

Oh okay, I thought I'd have to find the site again and find the update button, etc. etc. And yes, I would only update it occasionally. Okay, I'll make one. But not today. Diane

Decided to use the ticker this year since it is easy to keep track of things as they go out of here. I am still debating if I want to count each paper since I know lots is going to be going out so I will probably go with each bunch of papers since right now I have about 15 stacks of paper that I have to go thru and I will definitely be getting rid of more paper by scanning a majority of the paperwork onto flash drives. Today was a good day for me but also somewhat difficult since many of the clothes I am donating I absolutely love but since they fell right off me I won't keep them.

Hi! I'm so excited to have found this board. My goal this year is to dig myself out from this mess I call a home. I have boxes, bins, and piles of items I purchased with the intention of selling them of eBay (back in 2008-2010). Then I changed my life...lost 125 pounds and stopped shopping...but never started selling. I actually HATE shopping now. So accumulating is not my problem. I just can't let go of this stuff. I mean mounds and piles of stuff. Stupid stuff. Stuff that is worthless. ..but I keep thinking...what if. What of I could make money on this, etc. ANYHOW. ..my goal is to get rid of 2015 things this year....and as of today, I have already gotten rid of 100 things. Loaded them up and dropped them off at goodwill. If I can lose 125 pounds and run a marathon, I can declutter this house right? I am SO OVERWHELMED by this process. What are some good daily strategies? How do you get around the "but maybe I could sell this" mental block? Looking forward to getting to know all of you! D

Read up on the threads that have to do with "sunk costs."
Welcome to the board, runningawayfromme!

P. S. You might find the threads on "amnesty" to be helpful to you, too. A.

I'm sorry I can't join this thread because I got rid of everything last year. But I did want to make a comment on the tickers. As many of you know I just recently unpacked or found homes for 62 boxes and totes, after my move in Nov. My plan was about 2 boxes a day. At one point I was just going to alter my ticker weekly - but I got very confused on how many boxes I did that day - some times because I moved them to another room. Sometimes I had to also keep track on a separate paper. In the end I missed 1 box some how. And this was large items and only 62. In the last 2 weeks I had to update my ticker every day because I was losing count. It was so much easier to spend less than 1 minute a day updating than going back and counting how many boxes I had left. So since you are working toward such a high number, I would highly recommend not waiting to do this weekly - you will lose track of your total. Make it easy on yourself and just do it daily.

I'm updating my ticker as soon as the stuff leaves its resting place - I just took 11 more off: books I found under the bed that I'm not going to miss. (I always donate the fiction novels anyhow, so this was painless) A few of the items yesterday were things I don't want to use anymore, like plastic food storage containers. (it's no good for microwaving, and I have lots of CorningWare I can use instead) I'm hoping to get that little black & tan puppy galloping instead of trotting, whoo hoo - Go Pup Go! Welcome, runningawayfromme! Wow, I'm very impressed with your weight loss! Kudos to you, that's wonderful! I'd like to lose 30, and I'd like to actually 'do' it, not just 'wish' it. (Lots of walking is in my future, that seemed to really help last fall) And wtg getting rid of 100 items already - my hoard is all old stuff of mine, a whole room of bins/boxes/bs - so those emotional attachments are stopping me from pitching it all. I'm telling myself (when I'm trying to purge) that my 'now' is more valuable than my 'then' so a room I can actually use would be more beneficial than a pile of memories. Sometimes that strategy works, ha. I've never thought to sell it, so there's no monetary baggage there. Phew, that's all I need, more reasons to hang onto it, !
