So since I hurt my back and can't do any lifting right now, I figured it's a good time to tackle my paper trauma corner. I have a little set up in the living room with a comfy armchair, a lap desk, a bag for shredding, recycle bin and big trash can nearby. I'm going to bring out an armload of paper, nothing too heavy and sit and sort. I have lots of kitty entertainment to keep my spirits up and my mind entertained.

WTG imamess! There is that bravery I am talking about! New sewing machine? Yippee! Do tell! I got a new one recently too...my first ever upgrade from the basics. Plan to do some serious quilting. Of course, i need to totslly clean out and reorganize the sewing room...the new machine has taken over the dining table... Homesteph, the sewing machine is new to me, but it was made in 1921. It is a Singer 29K bootpatcher treadle machine designed to patch boots and sew various leather goods including saddles and harness. My dh & I had been looking for one for several years and after he passed away last fall I was having a really bad day and I was talking to his picture and a strange feeling came over me to look online for the sewing machine again. I found it and it was only about 40 minutes away. I bought it the next day and have really felt like he was guiding me to it. I have three other machines in the doom room, two of them (1980's era) are in cabinets and a Singer 221 in a portable case. Now mind you that is just the machines in the doom room, I have more

I found a corner I did not know I would be confused on. I found a whole box of unlabled photos. Labeling ages and people on them. Some are bringing me to tears.

Hugs, lostchild. Photos can bring incredibly bittersweet memories of better times, and worse. Sometimes, just the differences and mere passage of time is enough to make one cry. I prefer the happy tears, but I like remembering the good times then with people as they were back then, even if what came after is enough to break my heart.

And yes I agree it must be a gift just for you. My new machine was also my fourth. It is a Janome Skyline, got a great deal on it. My others are two low-end 1980s to 90s' Singers that now cost more to service than they did to purchase, and a pre computer era machine that accomplishes fancy stitches with sets of mechanical cams that I do not even know how to thread. I daydream of a treadle, but not sure i enjoy the idea more than i might likely enjoy the reality. Sort of like backyard chickens.

What kind of machine that has the cams? I have a zigzagger attachment for my Featherweight and part of the cams, but they have become soooo expensive.
I learned to sew on a treadle, so it's familiar. There are two treadles in my living room and both of them date to the late 1880's. One is restored, one needs a lot of work.

Dealt with another file of paper. I found the same for info online so I shredded the entire folder. I gained an inch of space in files. Dealt with doing taxes for another friend. He is missing paperwork. Claims to have donated a car but has no paperwork. Have to figure out his mess.
Will try to scan papers tomorrow if I can figure how to get scanner to work. I will try to scan all of papers for son first. My goal is to put them on the cloud. I am trying to figure how much hard copy I need to keep. Wish me luck. I am not a techie.

Working on papers. Working on papers. Working on papers. When did mail become so scary? Never mind. I know when. Gggrrrrr. I HAVE smiled a few times, but only as I empty another box of paperwork into an alpha stack for further processing. Bleh. Ummm, I mean, yippee!

Good luck with that project lostchild. I'm glad your friend has you to help. on those papers too Irisheyes. You're doing great. My trauma corner today, my clothes. Since I lost that job, I don't wear all these clothes that I got there. The style is so different and so specific, I don't know what to do with them. Some I sort of like but they are emotionally charged now. I might just put them all in a bin for now so I don't see them and deal with them at a future point when I can think more clearly. Or just take the whole bin to the consignment store. But if I do that, I don't really have much nice to wear anymore.

lostchild and Irisheyes wtg on dealing with those difficult papers. angela I know you will do the right thing with the clothes. I know you're not asking but I would bin them and drop them at the consignment shop. There are nice clothes waiting for a spot in your home. They just need a little room. Lost child I hope that you can figure out the scanner. The newer ones are not usually too difficult. Mine I just put the document in, press the scan button and when it's done the folder with the scanned document opens automatically for me to view and or rename the file. It's shocking how much easier than scanning was in the 90s.

Thanks Unswamping. I didn't do the clothes today. Instead I wandered into my office area and worked on papers like lostchild and Irisheyes. A combination of ick and trauma and paper clutter! A three for one.
